NYNews 54 Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 Posted on their Facebook page, the morning news will start at 4am starting September 20th. I'm not sure if it's totally necessary, but I wonder if the other stations would follow? I mean WNYW and WNBC did followed WPIX's move to start at 4:30am.
channel2 982 Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 When did newscasts decide to start at 5AM en masse? I don't know why they need to start at 4AM. Probably as the quality of the product goes down they can fall back on their "commitment to local news", which means "we cram newscasts into every slot we can't fill with the network or syndicated shows".
wabceyewitness 827 Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 There is a demand for local news at 4am. As the viewing audience continues to move out to suburbs and more suburban people take jobs in the City, the commutes get longer and the wake up time for many people is now during the 4 - 6 am hours.
channel2 982 Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 I was thinking that had to do with the en masse expansion to 5AM. Still, TV news strikes me as increasingly absurd, so maybe starting at 2AM isn't that far off.
