Jess 1115 Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 WPVI is going to be the second station to start their newscasts entirely too early. Promos are now airing for a 4:30AM start time beginning on September 6th. For the record, this is much more promotion than WTXF's expansion to 4:30am, which entirely consisted of anchors going "oh by the way, Good Day starts at 4:30 tomorrow". Anyway, given the lemming-like nature of local news, it's a matter of time before the other two stations extend their start times. Not sure when that'd happen though.

ProButtonPusher 230 Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 RandomThought: I always liked how Action News dumped out of America This Morning a little early to do their "pre-show" chat (they heated up at 4:57 and just shot-the-shit for 2 minutes, then they would just dump to the open.)

Thats the best way I think. Oh and ACTION NEWS starts right now.
TVNewsAnalyzer 0 Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 Since WPVI has clearly been the number one station I didn't think they needed to start at 4:30am
Link 3 Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 I think 5-7am local news is plenty each morning. I can't think there was an overwhelming number of requests for the news to start at 4:30am. It has become a trend in many markets because they don't want one station outdoing them or offering more news. In Nashville, TN...the ABC, CBS, and NBC stations begin their newscasts at 4:00am and have for the last couple years.

I think KSHB, KMBC, and KCTV all start their news at 4:30 now. There's an article about this trend and basically the local stations are saying that the morning newscasts are starting to become their cash cow now. http://www.tvbarn.com/tv-barn/news-signing/

Until now, their morning newscasts always started at 4:25AM. But still, that's news to me (considering that I don't usually get up that early).
