Weeters 1981 Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 No injuries reported, luckily. *le sigh*
TennTV1983 811 Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Another case of human error at its finest. It never ends.
bixpchiphead 105 Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 Lets have them meet with the folks at WSB http://liveapartmentfire.com/2009/11/18/mast-v-power-lines/
ProButtonPusher 230 Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 I'm ENG certified, and I have absolutely no idea how an operator can let this happen. I check the truck 3 times before leaving - plus the trucks are VERY hard to drive with the mast up - I don't know how they wouldn't notice. It takes about 5 minutes for the mast to come down completely, so it's the task you're supposed to start first when you're breaking down your shot.

You'd think WDJT would know better since this happened once before, except that time the mast snapped off.

Out of curiousity, are WDJT's ENG operators union? Because the only way this could happen is by violating some union rules.. I was told there's a rule where you are ABSOLUTELY NOT to move the vehicle with the mast up. Also, there is rule where you must physically look up in the air, standing outside the vehicle at least a certain number of feet, to make sure the overhead is clear before raising the mast and you are never to raise the mast directly underneath power lines, nomatter how high up they are..

I don't believe they are. Here's some video and a report from an eyewitness: [YT]5Ec5GB7W-Rg[/YT]
