Mark Saxenmeyer out at WFLD

He had a good run at WFLD, so I'm not too surprised by this. I've given up trying to figure out the decisions by WFLD management and have started to count the days until they're fired and a majority of their mistakes being undone.

I also noticed that they put all the work stations/desks in the newsroom in one row now. This has to be the longest newsroom renovation in recent history.

Is it just the one side by the assignment desk or are both sides each put into one row now? I know for a long time now, the one side close to the assignment desk has been a row while the other side was still those quad "X"s..

There are also less work stations/desks in there now than there were a couple years ago.. Probably because they don't "need" so many in there anymore. WMAQ just left all their empty work stations/desks in the newsroom. Either as decoration or false hope that they'll have a full newsroom again someday.. WFLD's newsroom feels so empty now. There's a lot of wasted/empty space in there now. Probably a good reason why they don't use the majority of the newsroom as the backdrop for on-air reports/interviews in there. I'm surprised the old giant clock is still hanging on the wall and nobody has stolen it yet..

One long row with people on both sides near the assignment desk. No X workstations from what I can tell. They did one live stand-up last night with Mike in front of control room and Darlene was sitting at the "live desk" near the conferenece room/assignment desk.

They had talked about expanding the newsroom to accommodate more people. I guess it was easier/cheaper for them to just fire people than knock down some walls, etc...

Tonight was Mark's last night @ WFLD. He gave a tearful goodbye following his final report (he got a couple of claps of appreciation from the in-studio crew as well).

Too bad his farewell was on a newscast marred with at least a dozen technical issues (somewhat symbolic of the current state of the station).
