whatchano 0
Found this interesting. http://www.allbusiness.com/entertainment-arts/broadcasting-industry-television/15369379-1.html https://www.tvnewscheck.com/article/2010/11/30/47353/weigel-makes-bold-news-move-in-south-bend The ABC affiliate for South Bend, IN has never had a local news gathering team or newscasts since it became the ABC affiliate in 1995. South Bend, IN has slid in the DMA rankings from 89-93 in the last 2 years. As stations around the country are laying people off and cutting back, this station has chosen to invest in starting a newscast from scratch...and in HD to boot! I really hope this pays off for them. Samantha 2878
This is the first from-scratch Big 3 operation in two years (WMBF in 2008). At a time when news is getting cut (in Idaho Falls, KPVI cut weekend news, and KIDK merged into KIFI for a lot of its operations), it's so nice to hear of a NEW news operation being started. Weeters 1812
Weigel can afford to drop 2 to 3 million dollars on their low power station in South Bend, but WDJT has to use studio cameras from 1989 on broken pedestals and a GVG-200 that's about 10 years past it's prime. Thanks, Weigel!

Thaat's Milwaukee for ya. I have realized that over the years that it's not just WDJT that has problems.

It certainly is. It should be noted that WFFT in Fort Wayne, Indiana (not far away from South Bend) started up a brand new newscast in 2009 which was covered by the NBC Nightly News. It's definitely an effort that deserves a bigger budget because those guys really do a good job for a small operation, at least I think. It even received an Emmy nomination for "Best Newscast" last year. It's ran by Jim Blue who anchored in Toledo for a while.
