NYNews 54
Does WCBS have a deal with AccuWeather? I noticed that the days leading up to the last storm and during the storm cbsnewyork.com used weather maps/graphics on their site that were also used on air by WABC and on AccuWeather.com. In the online story about the storm, WCBS also cite AccuWeather. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/7044-wcbs-and-accuweather/ Share on other sites
budtkaboy2000 0
1010 WINS uses AccuWeather. The web content probably comes from them. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/7044-wcbs-and-accuweather/#findComment-63931 Share on other sites
nynewsguy 66
Does WCBS have a deal with AccuWeather? I noticed that the days leading up to the last storm and during the storm cbsnewyork.com used weather maps/graphics on their site that were also used on air by WABC and on AccuWeather.com. In the online story about the storm, WCBS also cite AccuWeather. WCBS-AM also uses Accu-Weather. You can hear the Accu-Weather meteorologists during the "off-hours" (overnights and weekends.) The broadcast deals undoubtably give CBSNEWYORK.com the ability to use Accu-Weather graphics on the site, even though they don't have the TV affiiliation in NY. Jess 1115
It's what I keep saying - these new CBS Local sites are essentially the sites for whatever newsradio station CBS has in that market. There's video content from the TV station and sections for the sports and talk stations if they have it, but first and foremost these are websites for the newsradio stations. So with that in mind, since 1010 WINS uses AccuWeather, and since CBSNewYork is the 1010 WINS site, CBSNewYork is using Accu-Weather assets. And, for that matter, just because 7 has the TV license for AccuWeather and 1010 has the radio license for it, doesn't mean the other stations don't use it. Case in point: WCBS 880. While for the most part they use either their own people or forecasters from CBS 2, I've heard AccuWeather meteorologists more than once on there. Just not using that name, of course. budtkaboy2000 0
I wonder if that's because the agreement with AccuWeather is not with WINS or WCBS but with CBS Radio? Jess 1115
I wonder if that's because the agreement with AccuWeather is not with WINS or WCBS but with CBS Radio? CBS Radio doesn't have a groupwide affiliation with AccuWeather - it's essentially down to the individual stations. Here, while 1060's always used AccuWeather, WIP and WPHT were using Weather Channel forecasts until recently when they started taking CBS 3 forecasts. KCBS, I believe, doesn't take AccuWeather at all; most of the time I hear them using KPIX forecasters. I think longer-term the push is to have the local TV station supplying most, if not all, of the forecasts in markets where CBS owns TV and radio outlets.
