mbhcity 3 Posted March 15, 2007 Share Posted March 15, 2007 Well other than KNXT firing the great Jerry Dunphy for no reason, other than to mimic KABC's success (which in part was credited to Jerry after joining KABC)....there were some here in LA. The most controversial was of Christopher Nance, a beloved longtime weatherman at KNBC's Today in LA newscast. You can read about it in the KNBC article in wikipedia, plus it provides some interesting links. KABC fired Bryan Jenkins for smoking marijuana, and Karen Carlson after an physical argument with the ND. Don't know much about KCBS...though longtime weatherman Maclovio Perez was fired in 1997, because the ND thought he had too "latino" on air. He's now at WOAI San Antonio. that's all. WFLD FOX Chicago - Bob Sirott (now at WMAQ NBC 5) - Fired for marrying co-anchor Marianne Marciano. Actually, I'm not sure if that was the real reason, but he was fired right after he married her. She left the station not too long after. WFLD FOX Chicago - Meteorologist Steve Perez Schill - Fired for getting arrested for beating up his wife. WBBM CBS 2 - Dr. Michael Breen - Fired for reusing a past report as a new report without mentioning that it is one of his past reports. Yes, a reporter/anchor can get fired for this. Edit: (yes 2002 acording to their website) Since joining KRON 4 he helped the station's weather presentation, including the development of 7-Day Forecasts for the various microclimates of the Bay Area. According to his blog, his father and wife were sick. I heard an *uncomfirmed* rumor that he got fired. In my investigation..which I came up upon a few nights ago... I eMailed a former WQAD meteorologist from a sister station of KWQc (Young Broadcasters), because I heard that one of them was going to come up to replace Maitland. Well, He said, "You're right, one of us is coming up there, but not me, the cheif here is. Since Maitland was fired from KWQC, and them being a sister station, it is making the move more easy." So..I guess it is true He mentioned that he was probably going to stay out of TV for a while...unless 3 months is considered a while.
