WAVY's Wall to Wall News open (early 90s)

WUSA Promise News Package "Death Star" open (why is it nicknamed the "Death Star" open?)

WWBT open... used from like... 2003 until 2006

WPVI's MCTYW opens

KYW early 90s opens

WFTS' short-lived 28News open with Elevation from 2002

WTVT's opens with Impact from 1995-1997

WSMV 1993

There's gotta be more opens I love...

As for closes, definitely WAVY's, but only when they play out the music. They've kinda crapped it up now, they've got a little promo thing at the end with "Join WAVY News 10 at 5, 5:30, and 6, blah, blah, blah... from the station on your side!"

WFAA's Evolution late-night opens and talent bumps. Some of the best I've ever seen, second only to anything RenderOn ever cranked out.

It's a shame WFAA stopped using their talent bumps. The Saturday night News 8 Update talent bump was the best one of all. Brad Hawkins and Rebecca Rodriguez' slides would come on. Then more Hothaus live-action moving photography; Steve McCauley putting on his sportcoat. (The way Hothaus executed that shot in slow motion I thought was very professional and very well executed.) More hyperspeed Dallas traffic shots against the dark of night skyline, then Joe Trahan.

Very well executed.

WNBC-TV Live at Five 1989-1990

Remember when they had the 1 set for Live at Five and the second for News 4 New York at 6 and 11? At the end of Live at Five when Sue Simmons and Tony Guida signed off, the camera showed both sets. We saw Chuck Scarborough and Pat Harper sitting in their desk (the lights were off), and we saw Sue and Tony taking their micropohones and earpieces off and getting up and walking away from the set. This was done so they would not appear when News 4 at 6 began. (The 6pm set was right infront of the Live at Five desk).

The 1997 KSDK News Channel 5 Open using the Frank Gari "NBC New Millennium" package. I wish somebody had the clips of those news and talent opens and closes. NewsChannel 5 is the best news open I have seen circa 90s besides WAVY News 10.

WDSU

* Palmer News Package open for 6 pm and 10 pm, 1994-2000

WVUE

* NewsCaster open for 5, 6, and 10 pm from 1987-90 (package used until '92, but they cut the open short in 90.) The fly-in from the swamps/open waters south of New Orleans into the city was classic.

WWL

* Eyewitness Morning News open using a variation of WWL-TV from 1983(?)-85. The drawing of the outline of the city skyline and the piano/horns music is my all-time favorite. I am still seeking this open to this day. A masterpiece.

* Eyewitness News open for 5, 6 and 10 pm using WWL News from 1984-1990. It's the classic black background with the talent individually shown scrolling from top to bottom with a clock in the background (Angela Hill and Garland Robinette were anchors).
