  1. Just off the top of my head, KUTV still only runs the 8am hour. That is probably the biggest exception by market size. KGMB runs it in full, but from 8-10am according to schedules. There may be a few others as well?

  2. WGBA in Green Bay, WI has adopted the Scripps graphics package, and in a twist, has adopted the WMAR "InFocus" package for "Wisconsin Tonight" which is apparently sticking around. It works pretty well. They have also rebranded their weather department to "NBC26 Storm Shield Weather"

  4. No, it's the Scripps "Stories That Matter" garbage. The ND and producers all follow the same mantra. Here is the text of a poster that is hanging in the KGTV conference room... ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 10 News Stories that matter *Drought (needs updating) *Crime in my Neighborhood *Quality of my kids education *Making Ends Meet *Making the most of my (limited time) *Being the hero of my own life *Feeling positive about my world. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ What a wonderful inspirational poster. (gag) Be a friggin Hero?

  5. WWL will be scaling back the "Eyewitness Morning News" starting December 5. Currently airing 4:30 - 9 am, it will run from 4:30 - 7 am. That same day, "CBS Morning News" - currently airing on WUPL - will air on WWL from 7-9 am.

  6. That would seem like more of a ND and producer problem for continually allowing those types of stories to air.

  7. First off ... Thank God they are in a hiring freeze because the last 10 on-air hires in San Diego have been complete DOGS! As in crappy reporters that chase dog bite and senseless garbage stories. It's the "Awe shucks" ...it's another stolen porch package with crappy suspect video..and a prop driven lamer stand-up. Stop the pain! Second.... They are rolling in the dough...and I expect a nice return on my media portfolio this quarter ,so they better kick-down for us "investors". I have NO shame.

  8. ASCAP lists a WJLA theme by Michael Randall, but no idea which of the four unidentified packages it would have been. And speaking of WRTV, ASCAP also lists a "Station Style News Theme", aka "WRTV News", by Randall - no, not Michael Karp, but Michael Randall. What would that be? The 1992 theme? (I have a feeling the 1979 and 1984 packages were both Tuesday - even though Tom DiNoto didn't recognize them when I sent him audio, they both sound quite "Tuesday" to my ear. I once thought the 1984 package could be Randall, until I heard the KCCI "Be a Part of It All" promo that sounded very similar, and since it was higher sound quality, I could tell that the bongos in that KCCI song sounded very, VERY Tuesday. If WRTV 1984 sounds similar, I'm betting it was also Tuesday. And we know WRTV 1990 was VTS, so that only leaves WRTV 1992, but does it sound too orchestral to be Randall?)

  9. Definitely not John Christopher Burns or TVbD. But those opens do have some similarity to them.

  10. The theme reminds me A LOT of the 1991 WSB open as far as the music styling and that very newsy sound. I wonder if Cheryl Rogers who composed the theme for WSB 1991 open had a hand in this one? If not, it still sounds a lot like the Fairlight CMI Synth/Sampler sound that was used for the WSB composition. If she wasn't involved, it could have been an Atlanta "Doppler Studios" staff composer. Also, wonder if the open video animation/composites for both WSB 1991 and WJLA 1992 came out of Crawford Post / EQ Vance / John Christopher Burns in Atlanta? I see some similiar stylings there. Anyway, that's a couple of thoughts....

  11. Anyone know who did the WJLA 1992 theme? A really underrated, very newsy early-90s tune (the close is especially good). Definitely fit DC.
