  1. See guys, we're in Times Square so much that we put a camera shot of it on our VIDEO WALL!

  2. But they do have a point. TV stations are losing viewers fast, but want to be compensated even more every year. The NAB is ruthlessly telling their member stations to pursue that retransmission dough, even while extolling free TV options like ATSC 3.0. There's got to be a point where MSO's say "enough is enough, we're losing money."

  3. They made such a fuss about the big move to Times Square. I am surprised that they waited that long to put a picture of Times Square somewhere in the set.

  4. In my opinion, the problems are rooted in the "old school" culture of CBS News. CBS has always prided themselves on valuing substance over style. The presentation - graphics, sets, even the on-air talent always play a distant second to the storytelling. On one hand, I applaud the commitment to substantive enterprise reporting. However, they are competing in a visual medium. The reason why their primetime has done well is because it entertains. CBS News doesn't care to entertain. Content with no frills. It worked for Cronkite in the 60s and that's where their culture still exists...even if the world around them has changed.

  5. Very interesting indeed, especially with sweeps coming up, kinda odd that Gayle took time off, I don't think they ever said where she went. Seems like they are testing other options. Also interesting that this article came out in the same week: https://variety.com/2021/tv/news/cbs-news-shakes-up-talent-relations-gayle-king-norah-odonnell-1235099429/ I'm still confused in the aspect of their move to Time Square, aren't they in the old TRL space, why isn't part of the set designed with actual views of their new neighborhood? Visually, you really don't know that they are in Time Square, it sort of defeats the purpose of the move if there are no windows to look at. I also noticed they started reusing the CBS This Morning Eye Opener theme as well for the "your world in 90 seconds" montage. Not sure if the show actually needs four main anchors, they tried the configuration with Brianna Golodryga a few years ago and that didn't improve ratings.

  6. They pulled Glor too soon. They did him dirty. Now with him and his co-anchors being number one on Saturdays has to make management rethink the decision they made that screwed him.

  7. Gray is WYMPing out: they're acquiring WYMP-LD 14, virtual 7, southeast of Memphis (Bruce, Mississippi) from 5GTV for $500,000. On October 18, Gray executed a subchannel lease agreement with 5GTV, too.

  8. Weekend Today suffers from being so disjointed these days. It’s always a toss up of when it’s airing, who’s anchoring and from where.

  9. Broken record but IMO, eighty-sixing Norah will accomplish nothing (ratings wise) without some major talent acquisitions and formatting changes on CBSEN. ABC is doing a good job of grooming talent like Whit Johnson, Linsey Davis and of course George Stephanopoulos if there is ever a vacancy in the evenings. NBC has really taken the time to build up Savannah Guthrie and Tom Llamas for prominent roles should any major anchor departures occur. They've even developed Craig Melvin, who I'd consider as a stand by candidate for future Today main anchor. CBS hasn't really groomed new talent effectively. Personally, nether Couric, Pelley, Glor or O'Donnell were right for the CBSEN, but I did like Glor's neutrality in reporting.

  10. Looks like Justin Logan is one of the first meteorologists picked for WDKY when it launches in the new year.
