  1. I"m surprised more stations don't do this. Spot advertising has been dwarfed by retransmission revenue in terms of overall revenue for a long time.

  2. Well, that was quick. Former WLOX anchor Dave Elliott is crossing the street to WXXV later this month Typical Morris, quick to poach talent that screw up elsewhere.

  3. Starting this Monday, Nov. 11th, KVVU will air their weeknight 7:00pm newscast with limited commercial interruption. This isn't a one time thing either... its permanent. https://www-fox5vegas-com.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/www.fox5vegas.com/2024/11/05/more-news-less-spots-fox5-vegas-creates-landmark-newscast-with-one-sponsor/?outputType=amp

  4. And even if they did have cable they’d be turned off by the numerous never-Trump Republicans the network has.

  5. I think Bravo is more popular than people here realize. The Real Housewives franchise, and the rest of their programming, holds a very strong appeal with a demographic advertisers love - and one that I suspect has little if any overlap with that of this board. Bravo plays a big role with Peacock as well. Sci Fi/Syfy has always been a bit of an outlier in the NBC Universal stable. Unlike USA, Bravo or Oxygen (pre-true crime revamp), it's overtly dedicated to a category, not a demographic. It strikes me as a hidden gem that could excel in the right hands but I don't think NBCU cares about it anymore.

  6. I mean... for the longest time, WFSB's ID did go by Hartford - New Haven - Springfield so they can do it again and Gray, Nexstar, NBCU, and Entravision are in both markets so its plausible but not a reality anytime soon.

  7. Here's something substantial from the Scripps world. The company settled a discrimination lawsuit filed by Michael Brooks, a former KJRH-TV news anchor who said the station fired him because he's gay. Source: https://news.bloomberglaw.com/litigation/scipps-media-gay-tv-anchor-settle-workplace-discrimination-case (paywalled) Here's some background on the case: https://casetext.com/case/brooks-v-scripps-media-inc According to the lawsuit, KJRH's then-GM Amy Calvert learned Brooks was gay, and told him his sexual orientation could affect his job "because this is Tulsa after all." He was later reassigned and given more work responsibilities. The lawsuit shows Calvert also falsely accused Brooks of trying to extort then-news director Gerardo Lopez. Brooks was later fired. Calvert is now the GM at KOKH-TV, the Sinclair-owned station in Oklahoma City. Lopez left KJRH to become news director at WBZ-TV in Boston.
