  1. To be fair to Tegna, they've really backed off of the edginess compared to when they first came into existence.

  2. Sinclair's just late to the party though. Their only idea of theirs they didn't steal from another broadcaster is the whole crippling propaganda thing.

  3. More dismal numbers for MSNBC: They are basically getting no viewers under the age of 55 anymore. Comcast might actually have a hard time finding a buyer at this rate.

  4. I saw this Philadelphia TV News book recommended on another site. I put it in the Jim Gardner thread because he's on the cover. The Big Story: The Oral History of Philadelphia TV News.

  5. So Sinclair is trying to be edgy like Tegna and cheap like Scripps as well? Same garbage just wrapped up in a new package trying to chase a demographic that won't watch it.

  6. Speaking of the 96 theme…Gardner was quoted in this detailed article looking back on the incident https://billypenn.com/2015/08/12/phillys-action-news-theme-song-has-survived-10-presidential-elections-and-20-olympic-games-and-isnt-going-anywhere/

  7. I don’t know if any other market has someone like a Jim Gardner. I know other cities have people who’ve anchored for a long time, but I’m not sure they’ve had the same cultural impact/relevance that Jim has in Philly. I mean, the dude had people tailgating in the parking lot for this. Nobody deserves it more, though. Happy retirement, Jim.

  8. Not true! When the 4p and 10p launched they announced the times in that show only. Anyway, according to the Philadelphia Business Journal, Jim's last show got a 79 share in Philly and 540,000 OTA viewers. The Eagles Super Bowl when they won got an 81. https://www.bizjournals.com/philadelphia/news/2022/12/22/jim-gardners-historic-action-news-swan-song.html

  9. They've been propped up almost single-handedly by pharmaceutical advertising for years now. If RFK Jr. does get those ads banned like he wants to, I don't know how these cable networks will actually make money anymore.

  10. If they were to start fresh, the perfect pairing would be Tom Llamas and Hallie Jackson. They have already displayed great and unforced chemistry during election and convention coverage (see spin room from the Rep debate hosted by NBC)
