  1. Correct. Hearst made a strong bid to buy WJLA when the Albritton family decided to sell back in 2012/2013, but they didn’t want to do a piecemeal sell off.
  2. Nah. They should’ve learned their lesson by now. They tried to play fantasy football with their morning show, hiring FOUR anchors away from Fox 5 and it basically propelled them from 5th place to 4th. Plus as far as main anchors go, Lorenzo Hall is pretty darn good.
  3. Leon was never really a ratings draw, but WUSA9 also never really made many smart decisions either, so who knows? Can he one man band???
  4. WRC initially reported 4 people were alive in the water. Seems like pushing that error should’ve been a bigger deal.
  5. Ah yes. Danner, who appears on NewsNation frequently - that bastion of unbiased news, gets away with posting crap like this.
  6. Times have changed. That's no longer the case for most local anchors.
  7. Former CBS News State Dept. correspondent Christina Ruffini was anchoring MSNBC Live this weekend. Talk about having someone in the right place at the right time.
  8. I got news for you: local Emmys have ZERO weight on someone's employment. The idea that someone wins a trophy because a producer in Kansas City thinks someone is a great anchor in a market like New York City is pretty wild in the first place.
  9. Ken Rice at KDKA has been doing the 11pm show solo for some time now after the cost-cutting moves during the pandemic that led to the departure of the sorely-missed Susan Koeppen. But there was a lot of talk back then that going solo was their plan for the morning shows across the O&Os. A number of morning anchors were let go in that same wave of cuts: Chris McKinnon in Boston, Erin Kennedy in Chicago, Rick Dayton in Pittsburgh: and they did that for some time in Pittsburgh with Heather Abraham anchoring solo until it was evident that a 2.5-hour morning show didn't lend itself well to one anchor. 6pm/11pm shows can work with a solo anchor -- and if they're a strong talent like Ukee or Ken, it's a no-brainer. But CBS local hasn't been the greatest judge of talent in recent years.
  10. I suspect a lot of it is going to be recorded like the wheel rundowns at many cable news operations -- segments will be recorded on the fly and plugged in where needed. I don't think they're going to have a live presence all day unless events warrant. FXT just hired a new news director, Scott Isaacs, who came from WJAR in Providence but is a former EP at WCVB (and the husband of former FXT/HDH and now current CVB reporter Sharman Sacchetti. He knows the market well, I suspect if anyone can make it work, it would be someone like him. Hard to believe CVB has the only 4:30am news in the market, but yes, some went by the wayside "temporarily" around COVID and just never came back. WBZ just canceled their 4:30am half hour plus the 9am hour.
  11. I wouldn't say "always been dominant." KDKA has been coasting on its call letters for years. Ever since people meters came into play, they've lost their edge -- WTAE and WPXI win other departs easily these days (KD is third place in the all-important demos at 4/5/6 -- linking below to ratings.) They have one of the best local news anchors in America in Ken Rice but surround him with middling 'talent' -- they're hiring reporters out of college now! And they have potential to do something with that 8pm show on KD+ but it's very much like the rest, just a lot of police blotter nonsense. https://triblive.com/aande/movies-tv/tv-talk-may-sweeps-ratings-released-star-trek-discovery-ends/
  12. Looks like it’s just a temporary assignment.
  13. Interesting they’re finally doing more news. Other O&Os have far surpassed their output. WTTG in DC is practically on all day — but they’ve had other local programming other than news, a show like The View at 7 and Jim Lokay’s political late night show Final Five at 11:30
  14. Medgie seems like a "last resort" type. Right place at the right time and not much more. Her presence is unremarkable, but good for her to find work.
  15. People like her make a compelling case for an outright ban on TikTok.
