  1. Wow, it's like Christmas dinner tucking into all of this. KSEE's all over the place. I got a 6pm open for KNSD for...something. Also, wow, the KFTV and KERO opens are definitely new!

That music on the 6PM KNSD close... there's an amazing version that they would use on the 11pm close.. now if theres a long version of it..

  2. I'm putting everything out there I can - as I said before - it does absolutely no one any good sitting in my basement!

Here's my last compilation post before Christmas - I'm on holiday for about a week, without access to my "stuff"... (I may be able to get 1 or 2 items uploaded before I leave, but no guarantees!)

California, May 1993 - about 24 different stations

    Notes:

    - The KCBS theme is one of my favorites, especially the long close.

    - I'm not a fan of KNBC's "transitional" open they used for about a year.

    - Sorry for the quality on KEYT - the feed in the hotel was horrible...

    - I appreciate Jerry Dunphy's classic staccato "From the desert to the sea to all of Southern California, a good evening"

    - Not that impressed with the stations in the central valley, save the solid look and feel of KFSN...

    KTTV 10pm, KEYT 10pm (bad video), KCBS 11pm, KNBC 5:30am, KABC 6am, KTLA 7am, KNBC 5pm, KCBS 6pm (Long Close), KCAL 10pm, KNBC 4pm, KCOP 10pm, KCBS 11pm, KCBS 6am, KNBC 6pm, KCAL 8pm, KCAL 9pm, KTLA 10pm, KMEX 11pm, KGTV 12pm, KNSD 6pm, XEWT 6:30pm, KUSI 10pm, KFMB 12pm, KGTV 5pm, KFMB 6:30pm, KFSN 5pm, KJEO 6pm, KSEE 6pm, KSEE 5pm, KFTV 6pm, KMPH 10pm, KJEO 11pm, KGET 5pm, KFSN 11pm, KERO 11pm, KERO 12pm, KSBY 6pm, KCOY 6:30pm, KBAK 11pm

  3. I remember hearing that from a promo when the Emmys went to FOX in 1987 and the station id for WFLD Sometime in the late 80s early 90s.

  4. Folks -

The WJZ and Ohio clips were posted without me finishing up prepping them. I want to share with everyone, but need to get everything finished and cleaned up before posting. As soon as they're done on my end, I'll release them. This is the second time someone has been posting from my site before I got things finished up. I'm posting these out of the goodness of my heart - please allow me the courtesy of getting things prepped and squared away. I promise that I will post them as soon as they're ready.

I've been spending many hours of my time getting these newscasts digitized, converted and uploaded. I'm sharing them with y'all, since they do absolutely nothing collecting dust in my basement.

I'm posting as I find the tapes. If I have something, especially 1990s or earlier that I recorded, I'm posting as soon as it's done processing. I nearly wet myself (just a joke) when I found the tape with KYW and WJZ (it also has WHYY, WMAR, WBAL and a good chunk of WBFF - so far - there's some DC on it also...).

(and yes, I'm ticked off right now - for many reasons - this is just one of them)

    Jim

    Jim,

All i can say is, THANK YOU for posting and re-posting from the first site i discovered news opens oh so many years ago when i was just barely a teen. The treasure trove you have i know is ENDLESS and i cant wait for all to be revealed in due time.

    Thanks.

The opening graphics were way ahead of their time...

This exact open you posted on your site oh so long ago was the one that got me starting to love News Theme Music. That was about.. 13-15 years ago now.

Thanks for finally getting around to posting it in full! :-)

Or KFMB in 1989? (Featuring a full close of the Silvertree theme and an editorial!)

GAH!!!!!! I LOVE THIS! Excuse the caps. So much of my childhood is captured in this. Also, in almost 30 years, while more buildings have dotted the Downtown skyline as the open winded around the Coronado Bridge.. it honestly hasn't changed much.

  7. After 24 years in the industry. Kristen Cusato out at KUSI to become a Communications Manager at a Medical Institite across town. Tonight was her final broadcast.

For us locals who didnt see it, did she mention which one? Just curious as Susan Taylor (formerly of KNSD for those living outside of SD) works for Scripps Health. (Started by the same family as Scripps Howard Broadcasting but NOT affiliated with the health system)

  8.

Actually it occurred by late in '90. There's a KFMB noon open in this Internet Archive clip from December 11, 1990. We also have a 5pm open with a slightly different animation from this era. There's a bump from break with a bit of another cut of the KFMB 1990/92 Silvertree theme in there as well.

On the other hand, there's a non-NMSA theme for KFMB from 1992 that (I think you said) immediately followed the Silvertree theme.

This theme is one of the few I assume Silvertree creation for because all four of its credited stations were listed in Silvertree's client list. Same for WDAF 1987.

Ah yes! I always remembered it being from Early 91. But not late 90. Probably changed over in time for the November sweeps that year. And yes, i was the one that mentioned about the unknown 92 theme. I'd have to say btw, that lasted about 18 months or less before NS2k+ showed up on scene.
  9.

    KFMB "Say Hello" promo, 1985:

Most of the material on the channel is sports, and for news it's mostly KFMB. Wow, that "tumbling News Eight" logo (which appears to be a model) lasted a while: 1983/4-88, possibly as far as 1990.

1991 is when the changeover happened to the next 8 logo that lasted to 2005.
  10.

Jim Kirk of Corporate Magic has uploaded a clean version of the WFAA 1987 news intro using TM's "Spirit of Texas" news music package. And, you can also check out more of his videos containing mostly elements from corporate events and a demo.

AHHHHH!!!!!! Cant help but get goosebumps hearing this clean cut. :-)
