1. Doing a quick scan of TV markets 10-100 and there are a few possibilities: --Raleigh/Durham + Fresno: I could see a scenario where ABC cashes out of the region and decides to sell WTVD. (It also gives them a solid #2 in a growing Southeast market.) Same deal with KFSN, except they get a significant market leader. --Columbus: Word was that the Wolfe family was looking to sell, but as it turns out, that wasn't the case. However, if Scripps gives them a nice offer for WBNS, could they change their minds? --Oklahoma City/Tulsa: I don't know enough about KOTV/KWTV's ownership situation, but if Griffin were looking to get out of the business, Scripps would make a lot of sense, wouldn't it? --Providence: WLNE's probably too far gone, but Scripps could probably buy it and give it a WKBW-style revamp. Just thinking out loud...
2. Robert Kekaula anchoring? That should be interesting...
3. Now that would really stir the pot.
4. Looks like Cox and AT&T have reached a deal. That didn't take long. http://radiotvtalk.blog.ajc.com/2017/01/01/wsb-tv-returns-for-directv-and-att-u-verse-customers/
5. I wouldn't read too much into this. They own 14 affiliates and seven (the former O&Os/Local TV LLC stations) didn't make the list, so theirs may not expire for a while. KCPQ's affiliation agreement expires in 2018.
6. Could be WKBW...the Eyewitness News brand has a lot of name equity up there.
7. Enjoyed watching Dave. Terrible loss.
8. Guys, PLEASE look and use search before posting. This was literally mentioned two posts above. Too many people trying to be "first" and not looking before they post.
9. WBTV has extended its primary female anchors, Maureen O'Boyle and Molly Grantham, for multiple years. No specifics, but they have been there since 2004 and 2003, respectively. Great to see WBTV remain stable despite all of the turnover that has occurred in the market over the past number of years.
10. Sorry to bump an old thread, but Wiley is indeed headed to NECN/NBC Boston. http://talkintv.buffalonews.com/2016/06/22/ch-7s-wiley-headed-boston-cable-channel/
11. So WSB did something interesting last night. Rather than show a rebroadcast of "Madoff", they instead preempted it to 2am to show a movie called "Henry's Crime". It wasn't even a big-time theatrical film - it was a low-budget, independent film starring Keanu Reeves. I can't figure out why they did it, but a) did any other ABC station preempt "Madoff" and b) is this par for the course for 'SB? (for those who have lived in ATL longer than I have)
12. I'm not sure what this has to do with anything...
13. Why? News Edge has done great under Haynes. And why would you assume their sports director would move to news?
14. For those wondering where Shiba Russell's ending up... Official release: http://www.11alive.com/news/local/mornings/shiba-russell-to-join-atlanta-alive-as-morning-co-anchor/197192251
15. Why even bring it up? It probably goes without saying. But why though?
16. Meanwhile, it looks like things are staying status-quo at WGRZ. http://talkintv.buffalonews.com/2016/04/14/local-nba-fans-play-smart-switching-kobe-golden-state-finales/ (it's buried at the bottom of the article)
17. Man, Tomasulo's come a long way from anchoring weekend sports at WKBW. He was up there when I lived in Buffalo a while back...
18. WKBW reporter Desiree Riley is rumored to be eyeing a jump to the Boston market: http://talkintv.buffalonews.com/2016/03/10/wiley-likely-to-head-to-major-market-once-ch-7-contract-expires-at-end-of-july/ Interested to see if she ends up at NECN until the new NBC O&O gets up and running...
19. Thanks for chiming in with that racial stereotype.
20. WIVB chief meteorologist Don Paul will be retiring when his contract ends in March. Former Weather Channel and NBC Weather Plus meteorologist Todd Santos, who came on board a couple of years ago, will be replacing him. http://talkintv.buffalonews.com/2016/01/25/ch-4-meteorologist-don-paul-expected-to-announce-retirement-on-6-p-m-newscast/ Didn't really watch Channel 4 a whole lot when I lived in Buffalo, but that's a big loss for them.
21. Here's Ashley Rowe's anchor/reporter reel. Very strong hire. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MknJdmhCgh0
22. Interesting. I remember Kala when she used to work for WSOC back when Natalie Pasquarella was there. Pretty good anchor/reporter.
23. FTFY. In all seriousness, most people outside of this board don't care about much of the stuff we talk about as long as they are getting the information they need from their stations. Naturally, we here at TVNT criticize visual/auditory things because we've been conditioned to do so. I will say that Nexstar has made significant investments in several of their stations, though.
24. Here's the noon open (w/ breaking news tag) from today:
