  1. Within the past week or so (for the first time since Granite abolished it a few years ago for cost-cutting purposes), WKBW has begun live-streaming its newscasts. It's like night and day comparing the station to before Scripps took over a year-plus ago. http://wkbw.com/live They do not replay their newscasts during off hours, though.
  2. Very subtle (L3s don't need to "recue" when transitioning from names to story topic; bug has lens flare; transitions in left box are faster) but barely noticeable to the untrained eye.
  3. Saw a commercial for it last night where I live. WMYA (the MyNetwork TV affiliate here) has picked it up for their .2.
  4. You guys are reaching big time if you think that photo means that CBS and TW are merging.
  5. You have to wonder if/when the turnover will catch up to them? WBTV has to be licking its chops.
  6. Not a fan of this idea. That's years of brand equity you're flushing down the toilet if you make that move.
  7. Makes sense if it's WCNC. WBTV and WSOC are pretty set anchor wise and I'd doubt he'd join WJZY or WCCB. By the way, I've seen Fred anchor a few times because I have family up that way (NC) and didn't have an issue with him at all. Good get for 'CNC. I wouldn't be surprised if his wife took Astrid Martinez's vacant spot at WBTV, though.
  8. Question is, would Hoda remain on TFHOTS if (IF) she replaces Natalie?
  9. Gordon Peterson is retiring, so Elias is likely his replacement.
  10. WATN was doing it as recently as their relaunch. I believe WROC (I might be mistaken) does as well. I'm not sure if that's still the case, but I'm sure there are users in those markets that can correct me.
  11. Whenever I think of WOUB, I think of this... [yt]wzb_CDJ6U-s[/yt]
  12. Mike Nichols, Diane Sawyer's husband and an award-winning director who was a member of the rare "EGOT" club (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony winner), died today at 83: http://www.cnn.com/2014/11/20/showbiz/obit-mike-nichols/index.html
  13. Looks like the virtual set revolution hit Morris-owned WTVQ yesterday... http://www.mediabistro.com/tvspy/wtvq-launches-good-day-kentucky_b130581 Hopefully it's better than this at their sister station in NC... [yt]lwoQ1QBp3XU[/yt]
  14. WKBW poaches another talent in Buffalo. WIVB reporter Ed Drantch is moving to Ch. 7 and will start October 13. http://talkintv.buffalonews.com/2014/09/24/ch-4s-drantch-headed-ch-7/
  15. After a year and a half, WKBW's Hilary Lane is leaving the station for a reporter position in Philadelphia, near her family in New Jersey. https://twitter.com/HilaryL16/status/511598717653495808 And the station's morning newscasts are scheduled to relaunch on or around September 29. Looks like they will use two meteorologists in the AM. http://talkintv.buffalonews.com/2014/09/16/ch-7s-different-type-morning-show-weather-centric/
  16. So are we 100% sure they won't use the Spirit signature with This is Home?
  17. Big changes starting to take shape at WKBW with Scripps taking over. A week ago, Cole Heath and Tiffany Lundberg were fired; now Mike Randall will move from mornings to weekends and do features two days a week for the station, while Andy Parker returns to the station to take his place. Parker was there from 1993-2000 but left after a conflict and joined WGRZ. Interested to see if they poach another station for morning anchors or hire out of market.
  18. I've seen them use it in some promos as well as ads around town promoting network shows.
  19. It's not custom...it's just a different cut of the open.
  20. Met Tenikka several times and she's a great person. She'll do well down in JAX.
  21. Maybe not on the level of, theoretically, WPVI were to dump MCTYW, but it would be a mistake. Granted, they got rid of the KUSA and KARE packages as well as the Good News package in Maine...they can't possibly be thinking of replacing the Spirit signature completely, can they? Speaking of well-known signatures, fast forward to 2:53 in the This Is Home package (http://southernmedia-nmsa.com/#3,1,1699)...
  22. Interesting to see two former Buffalo TV staffers (Chesley McNeill, who was hired from 11Alive's sister station, WGRZ, and Tracy Humphrey, formerly at WKBW) working for the same station now.
  23. In other news... For the second day in a row a Charleston station launches a new set. Yesterday at 5am it was WCBD, and today at noon it was WCSC. They switched to the new Raycom graphics and are now using the updated CBS Enforcer cuts. Your move, WCIV...
  24. Heard Capt. Herb a few times while visiting ATL and was always impressed by his detail and knowledge of the area'a roadways. That's a huge loss for WSB.
