Ratings for CBS This Morning are down 21% since its relaunch. https://www.forbes.com/sites/markjoyella/2019/06/26/cbs-this-morning-ratings-drop-21-since-new-co-hosts-joined-gayle-king/#32ae32fa648b Ratings for all the morning shows are down compared to last year, however, CBS has suffered the biggest losses. “Compared to the same week last year, ABC was -4% in total viewers, NBC was -4% in total viewers, while CBS was -9%. In the A25-54 demo, ABC was -10%, NBC was -11% and CBS -17% vs. the comparable week last year.” https://www.adweek.com/tvnewser/morning-show-ratings-week-of-june-17-2/407148/

Chris Cimino announced today that he is leaving WNBC. His last day is July 2. https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2019/6/24/breaking-top-new-york-anchor-signing-off

It debuts July 15 from New York, according to CBS. It will move to Washington in fall.

How is that acceptable to anyone who works at or runs WCBS - a station that promotes TRAFFIC & WEATHER on the 2s? There are tons of resources out there that they can use to put together a traffic report -- Google Maps, Waze, municipal agencies, traffic cams, etc. This is just pure laziness.

I think it’s amazing and great that they got Sam back but I wonder how Jeff and Amy feel about being passed over for promotions. Jeff, especially, who has been on weekends and filling in on weekdays for 12 years.

Maybe building a bench. Bill and Diana are both close to the point of scaling back and/or retiring.
-
WOW. It’s almost like they are in a competition with the new Good Morning America set for biggest morning TV eyesore.
-
Charles Gibson was solid and second only to Peter Jennings.
-
The new music is completely underwhelming and dull. Maybe the three previous themes were too high energy and loud for some, but this is the complete opposite. Doesn’t sound like Good Morning America and doesn’t match the look/feel of the show.
-
New graphics and music this morning on GMA— the intro v/o also says the show’s full name again (“live in Times Square, this is Good Morning America”) but drops the anchors’ names.

Scott Stanford is leaving PIX11. His last day is tomorrow. https://twitter.com/scottstanford1/status/1090419780010557445?s=21

FTVLive reporting that Nexstar will sell WPIX after acquiring the Tribune station group. The sale of WPIX would bring Nexstar under the ownership cap and infuse money back into the company after the purchase.

Here is segment 1 of this morning’s UpClose, posted to Bill Ritter’s Facebook page. It starts with the 50th anniversary report aired back in November and then an edited feature on Roz Abrams. https://www.facebook.com/1478254085783659/posts/2280819665527093/ Segments 2 & 3 have very interesting discussions with Doug Johnson and John Johnson about what WABC was like decades ago. They even throw some jabs at their former competitors, former ABC network bosses, and include an interest piece of commentary they received from Walter Cronkite. The entire half hour of Sunday morning’s “Eyewitness News UpClose” will be dedicated to the 50th anniversary of EWN.
-
In think curiousity over how they would report the Megyn Kelly news certainly earned them some new viewers, but they’ve been trending toward closing the total viewer gap for quite some time now. It was only a matter of time. GMA has lost its energy and forcing Strahan on viewers as a hard news journalist is part of the reason.

Here’s the video from 5pm: https://abc7ny.com/entertainment/looking-back-on-50-years-of-eyewitness-news/4702761/

I saw the special 50th anniversary reporting they aired at the end of the 5pm — that was great! I wish/hope there’s an extended one that is published online with all the people they caught up with and with longer commentary. (So nice to see and hear from Roz!) And the 6pm broadcast ended with Bill Beutel’s “Final Thought” segment that he filed a few days after 9/11. And they let the broadcast end — without the current anchors’ sign off — right after Bill Beutel’s signature line, “I’m Bill Beutel. Good luck and be well.” Classy.
-
Thanks. Have other 50th Anniversary stories like that aired yet? You'd think they would post that content on their abc7ny.com/eyewitnessnews50 website... but it continues to be videos ripped from YouTube.
-
Where was the Dr. Jay image posted? Nice to see them catching up with former anchors and reporter. Diana Williams posted this to Facebook on Tuesday.
-
What a mouthful.. and a waste of viewers’ time. Save the promos for commercial breaks.
-
Disappointing. Do they not know how to access their own archives?
-
As of early 2018, the station had no plans to note the anniversary. That was under the former leadership. I’m thinking once the new GM and ND were put in place, they decided they should do something. I am surprised most of it is just ripping videos of YouTube... I’m hoping there’s something original produced at some point. It would also be nice to see the “Celebrating 50 Years” logo montage air on TV - though I wonder if the original CHL music is a copyright/licensing issue. Note that the audio track to that video was noticeably absent on the station’s official Facebook and Twitter posts a sale opposed to the ND’s personal Instagram post which included audio and the VO.
-
So much better with audio! I tracked down the origination of Sandy’s tweet. It’s an Instagram post from Chad Matthews, the ND at WABC.

Here’s a nice little video ABC7NY posted showing the EWN logos over the years. https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=10156246267064091

Hope so too. Would be nice to also see something produced for the 50th.
