  1. Looks like there's a new Good Morning America set on the way, at least according to this blog post from a NYC university: http://cms.blog.fordham.edu/good-morning-america-wants-you-in-their-studio-audience/
  2. That posting has been up since May, probably when they began the search for the new sports anchor. They're required to post job openings publicly even if they intend to offer it to an internal candidate. That's all it means.
  3. That looked really cheesy... Like something out of the 80s or 90s. The graphics on the screen behind him looked better and more professional. It doesn't help that WABC has little room on their set to play well with the technology, as opposed to KTRK and other O&Os.
  4. I've caught it a few times. Overkill if you're watching the full 90 minutes plus the weekday newscasts. That said, there's certainly an audience for it and it's cheaper to produce than buying outside programming.
  5. It is quite the honor to have just joined a network's digital news side and be tapped to fill in for their flagship evening news broadcast. When he was at ABC, he filled in once for Diane Sawyer. Wasn't too polished at the time for an evening news broadcast. Didn't catch him on CBS tonight but hope it went well.
  6. He's actually kind of right for the NYC market where there is not heavy coverage nor general interest in local high school and college sports given the number of professional teams we have. People who want sports news are not turning to the local news, they're watching ESPN and turning to the apps on their phones. The people who enjoy the sports reports on local news are the same people who will watch the the first 25 minutes regardless of there being a sports report. Why do you think it's the last thing that airs at 6 and 11pm and is the first thing to get cut when there's extended breaking news inside a newscast? Now, I'm not saying cut your sports department altogether but certainly it's time to rethink the value of a dedicated sports anchor and sports producers and perhaps move in the direction of that being a beat that they cover but will be assigned to other general assignment reporting when necessary.
  7. Can't speak specifically for Good Morning America, but World News Tonight made it the top story on Wednesday night when the body was found. From online coverage, looks like ABC has made it a point to cover it fairly. In the report that was made available for affiliates, the reporter even pointed out that Disney had no warning that alligators were present in the lake.
  8. Diane Sawyer was a press aide to President Nixon (and once thought to be a candidate for Woodward and Bernstein's "deep throat" informant), so CBS should've never hired her for 60 Minutes.
  9. Time to re-shoot all those new talent opens and promos! Seriously, though, congrats to Rob! Seems like a great personal and professional move. Doing what you love, in your hometown and close to family. Can't get any better. That said, he'll be missed on Eyewitnsss News!
  10. The bottom line is that she requested time off and WCBS, the people who sign her paycheck and have the only real say in this matter, granted it. Since we don't know the exact circumstances surrounding her situation, it's unfair to try and compare it to what other people may or may not experience with their employer.
  11. Thank you. I love all the comments and speculation (about what's clearly a personal situation) that are based on gossip column reports in tabloids that are writing articles with comments from unnamed sources.
  12. Ha. It seems almost like now they're adding more and more patches to the current clunky package. Wonder what's going on that they just can't wait until debuting the new look.
  13. Some new and different elements used tonight.
  14. Ha! And this morning they posted on Instagram another group photo taken together - along with Camille Edwards - in front the EWN van outside the station garage. Was all part of the big promo shoot day.
  15. Yes! I guess they've been using it for a few days now. They still used, as an intro to another story, the "new at 11:00" animation from the current package. But, as you can see, this box matches up with some other new things we've been seeing.
  16. Another new graphic element popped up during the 11pm news on Monday night. A new "New At 11" box made it on air I the lower left part of the screen during the number into the first break. Nothing special and no animation or anything, but definitely conforms with the video that was visible on Vimeo and also the "Right Now" element that aired last week during weathercasts.
  17. Perhaps the changes will come after sweeps? They just shot new promo photos last week that I would presume are supposed to conform with the new look.
  18. So anyone thinking/hoping the new look will launch tomorrow or Monday?
  19. He's the president and GM of WABC-TV. I think it's safe to put the conversation to rest and just be happy for the days you had with the dog. After all, every dog has his day.
  20. ...and the '99 music and opens switch to the current EWN music (and brief "ABC7 Eyewitness News" branding) happened on a Monday in August, too!
  21. Graphics have usually debuted on Mondays and usually during the noon or early evening newscasts. The studio debuted on a Sunday; maybe some new graphics launched then but most were in place already before the launch.
  22. Maybe on Monday? They usually debut new things at the start of the first week of whichever month the change will happen.
  23. I always thought it was silly. Kind of cute but not needed every day.
  24. I hope that with the upcoming change in graphics, WABC will consider changing the backgrounds and images used on the studio monitors.
  25. Exactly. Every graphic that they've had to add on to the current package doesn't exactly fit the package or looks like it was thrown together in PowerPoint ... Not to mention, the 5 different ABC7 logos they've been using. I'm happy that things look like they're moving in a cleaner, flat direction.
