  1. Nice to hear the serious cut used for the entire headline... but I agree it still doesn't transition well to the main open. Maybe they will just leave it like that -- just as they did when they began using a cut from the previous election package as the headline bed for WN with Charles Gibson but kept the regular open..... or (and this is fingers-crossed pure speculation) maybe they will phase in a more serious sounding opening cut that has the famous ABC News da-da-duhh-duhhh signature in it....
  2. I know. It seems like a few people on this thread need to research how syndication, affiliate agreements, etc. all work first before speculating! Back to the original topic -- I think a GMA/GAA style show would work well at 11am.. and would certainly be better than whatever The View is airing these days. The Chew at 11am is an interesting idea, too, with a more relaxed new/entertain program like GAA following local stations' midday newscasts.
  3. Don't see GMA bumping LIVE to 10am anytime soon or ABC News taking over LIVE from WABC-TV and turning it into a 3rd hour network morning show. Syndication deals and affiliate agreements are a cash cow for Disney/ABC. If anything, we can expect a midday version of GMA to pop up again in a time slot that the network already owns or has more leeway with.
  4. The serious cut sounds almost like an update of the old headlines bumber they used when Peter Jennings was anchor. They should just use one cut or the other, it sounds awful the way it's set up now. And bring back the ABC News signature - it was the only hint of ABC News in the show's music.
  5. I like it... It's fresh and modern.. seems like something you would see on KABC out in L.A.
  6. The exchanges between anchor and reporter in studio are not always live on WNT. Sometimes, like WXmanTim said, they are pre-taped and it is noticeable when they try to return to the live shot of the anchor.
  7. Wow. That promo was awful and annoying.
  8. She did Friday's WNT, too. I like when she anchors.
  9. Agreed. I always enjoy when they have Diana or Liz back at 11pm to fill in for Sade. I also think Diana and Lori Stokes make a great team at 5pm; I wish they gave Lori that spot when Roz left.
  10. Two people asked what your source was. All you had to say was you saw it on Extra. No need for the dramatics if you truly want a good discussion. That said, I'm curious to know exactly what was said on Extra since no other published report I could find said GMA might go to three hours. Perhaps Extra was just speculating. In any case, The View will fit right in with the new direction of ABC News. And that's not really a good thing.
  11. Which report stated this? All that's been announced is that ABC News is taking over operations of the show which, by the way, is profitable.
  12. They won't have access to offices while the renovations happen because the offices and the enitre space is being gutted and redone. It's a long overdue and much need renovation for a newsroom that's had the same basic look and layout since, at least, the early 1990s.
  13. Uhh lets go back to US Government 101, folks. Congress is where legislation, funding and decisions that affect the entire country get proposed and voted on. The people elected to Congress affects the way the executive branch approaches certain things. The addition or loss of members belong to a certain party can sway or stall the movement of historical legislation. These local people who can shape the way Congress acts is very much a national story.

  15. The promos is just done all wrong and misses an opportunity to use the song and footage in a way that makes sense. Since the song is called "Come Get It Bae" (bae = slang for "before anyone else" aka a person's significant other) and is upbeat, the promo should have hit primarily on weather, PM traffic, consumer information, happy talk and pop news first then the latest breaking news as a "plus". Since EWN has the only 4pm news, the VO could've used the tag line "Get it all before anyone else , on eyewitness news first at four"
  16. Right now on ABC7 - live prime time "Post Game Huddle" anchored by Rob Powers with panel of special guests in studio. Pretty cool to air this instead of filling with network program joined in progress.
  17. Another cool fact from the Kelly & Michael interview: Kelly said that Disney/ABC TV Co-Chair Anne Sweeney told her at a luncheon that she believes David Muir is the Peter Jennings of this generation. A huge endorsement from ABC and it's clear in all the promotion and subtle transitional changes that they're certainly hoping and betting that he does indeed follow in Jennings' footsteps.
  18. The idea behind having a deputy anchor in New York while the main anchor is overseas is done because satellites are not always reliable. So, traditionally, the main anchor pretapes his/her introductions and stories, it gets fed back to New York and New York airs it with live updates on the other news of the day anchored by the deputy. This also allows those other news headlines to be as up to date as possible. If the show is completely live from outside New York, a deputy anchor is always on set in case of some technical error and can pick up the show and finish it from New York.
  19. The View's soon to be old studio is on 66th Street and West End Avenue, a couple of blocks away from the main buildings near 77 West 66th. WNT, along with every other ABC News program besides GMA is actually in 47 West, which is connected to all the other buildings by hallways . The View is moving to Katie's old studio, TV-1, which used to be used for Millionaire and (years ago) for specials like election coverage. This studio is part of the actual complex and is accessible from the other buildings. This is ABC consolidating things. WABC is accessible by hallways connecting it to the network buildings and you no longer need to walk outside. This was done when the EWN studio moved down the block.

  21. I doubt they'll move the The View studio - it's not part of the ABC complex. The View moving to Katie seems to be a way of ABC consolidating things.
  22. So how long do we think it'll be until a new set and graphics? Diane Sawyer got hers on the first day of the broadcast and new music about three years later. Charles Gibson got a new set a year and a half after taking over. Elizabeth Vargas and Bob Woodruff got new graphics on day one. For David Muir, maybe a new set isn't in order just yet but I'm hoping a new open and maybe a shift back toward the Jennings-era music down the line. For now, though, it seems that everything will remain the same as he settles in. To this day, this remains as my favorite WNT open and set:
