  1. It seems that Channel 5 is probably going to be the only station with local New Year's coverage this year.

WMAQ will have their New Year's Eve special "A Very Chicago New Year" hosted by Chicago Today hosts Cortney Hall and Matthew Rodrigues.

Former WLS-TV stablemates Janet Davies & Mark Giangreco will be special guests for the special.

This will be the first time Mark appeared on Channel 5 in over 27 years.

I saw this on Syncbak’s VUit. On air, WFIE is still on the Raycom look, and they have reverted back to the old weather graphics.

That's the graphic when you press it to get to the on demand video. The station has yet to debut the graphics on air.

And WBTV got their successor for their next Chief Meteorologist when Eric Thomas retire. Congrats to Al Conklin on becoming the next chief!

    This needs to be said.

Despite being the new chief, Conklin is staying in his morning shift. So no word on who will take Thomas's evening slots.

Surprised to hear about Wendy on WPTV myself (it's also very odd they get to delay Live! for two hours, which much make the 'Trip Trivia' players in South Florida very unhappy, as WPLG also delays it an hour), but paired with WFLX via SSA, it seems like they can build the schedule for both stations rather than having to take a struggling show otherwise.

WPTV airs Live! at 12pm, after Today on 5 at 11am. So that's a THREE hour delay. That's late as hell.

  5. I read this from LA Times. It explains about FCC's equal time provision.

    Quote

The decision to pull the program is necessitated by the FCC’s equal time provision for broadcast TV stations. If a declared candidate for political office is given free airtime on a TV station, the same opportunity has to be given to other contenders.

Observing that rule would be a logistical nightmare for TV stations that run “Dr. Oz,” a daily hourlong talk show syndicated across the country by Sony Pictures Television. The most likely option for TV stations is to replace the show with other programming during the campaign.

They're acquiring Marshalltown, IA KDAO-CD from MTN Broadcasting for $195K.

One, their signal only serves the immediate Marshalltown area which is northeast of Des Moines. So I wouldn't be surprised if Weigel moves it closer to the capital city, should this deal be completed.

And speaking of the devil, the LP (now known as KDIT-CD) filed to move its signal closer to Des Moines.

Surprisingly, Weigel had to file a request so they can move to the proposed facility (Alleman). Because earlier this month, the FCC placed a condition on the license to cover grant that they had to operate its signal continously for a twelve-month period at their current facility (Baxter).

I see within there the infamous KCPM/Grand Forks allocation that Gray couldn't get/convince the FCC to give them during the pandemic because the station hadn't actually had a licensed facility since 2014.

It wasn't really Gray's fault. It was owners of KCPM that kept the station off the air all that time. I wouldn't be all that shocked if Gray try to bid for that allotment again. Also, do they want to bid for Aberdeen again (KABY)?

KCWK/9 in Walla Walla, KFXF/7 from Fairbanks, WNYS/15(?) in Syracuse, and KCCO/7 in Alexandria, MN, along with Equity's old Fox Montana network. That's what I can remember off the top of my head.

WNYS was suppose to move to RF 15 in the repack. That was before Apollo turned-in that license.

There also a few that were occupied by the late Jim Rogers' Intermountain West Communications group. Including two (Ely, NV & Jackson, WY) that those stations were later moved to the east coast. Initially, the FCC didn't want KVNV & KJWY to be moved, but the courts gotten involved and reversed their decision.

Some good news in the Cornhusker State.

For the first time since the tower collapse almost two years ago, KOLN has now lit up RF 10.

This STA message stated that it was lit up last Thursday (11/18). The station has informed its viewers to rescan their TVs after 10am tomorrow (11/23).

No word on when KSNB's UHF 24 signal will be up and running yet.

    R&O:

    Channel 9 Freeport

Looks like Gray would have to apply and bid for the new allotment. On the bottom of the order it stated this:

    Quote

    7. IT IS FURTHER ORDERED, That the newly allotted channel 9 at Freeport, Illinois, SHALL BE AUTHORIZED pursuant to the Commission competitive bidding rules, 47 CFR §§ 73.5000 et seq.

So big follow up regarding two new allotments (Ch. 9 Freeport, IL & Ch. 26 Eagle River, WI).

The two are a part of 27 construction permits of full power television stations that'll be up for auction, which is tentatively scheduled to begin next June.

I wonder now that Gray will own Meredith if People On TV will get canceled since that was Meredith's baby.

People on TV will be controlled by IAC's Dotdash (once they acquire Meredith's National Media assets after the spin-off). Gray won't have anything to do with the production of the show.

WTOK switched to the new graphics and had a major building renovation and technology upgrade. The station now uses the Momentum News music package by Non-Stop Music.

With all of that "updating" and "refreshing", you would think they would have a brand new studio set........
