I don't think many of us expected this outcome when this all came to light. Perhaps it was a result of some of the additional information they uncovered, but I have a feeling a lot of the reason they are out is the way TJ and Amy reacted. It seems as if they went to war with ABC and that's never helpful if your goal is to stay employed there. Plus they seemed to lack any ounce of discretion. Fairly or unfairly, they became too big of a story.

Is it too small? Or are we just looking at small screenshots of weather graphics that aren't full screen?
-
Yeah, I can't tell from the screenshots what's happening. The cloudy one isn't so great, either. Perhaps the animations were caught in a bad frame, along with not being super clear because they're being shot off of a monitor. But the overall look is pretty nice.

Did we get sucked back in time?!

I think this was Sam Ryan's schedule when she was the lead sports anchor at CBS 2. I seem to remember this being somewhat common at some point but I'm not sure it's still as much of a trend these days.

I cannot imagine CNN trying a comedy show again, this night on weeknights, would work.

Former News 12 Long Island meteorologist Bruce Avery passed away on Saturday. https://www.instagram.com/p/CnhYqtnu59_/ Bruce retired last summer from being the general manager of WRHU 88.7 Radio Hofstra University, where I first worked with him as a student. I posted this on my social media accounts and figured I would share it here as well:

Why would they promote the fact that the live stream is now being delayed two hours? Do they think it's a selling point?
-
The current graphics debuted August 2014.

I think new graphics would be just another part of remaking the network as his own. It's time for something sleeker and smaller. CNN used to have three-hour blocks and I like this return. The three-anchor concept is weird to me but he did it at CBS This Morning and now CNN This Morning. Nice seeing John Berman back with Kate Bolduan. They used to do At This Hour together before Berman moved to 9-11am, before he moved to New Day. Sara Sidner, who has done amazing work in war zones and domestic danger spots, became an anchor for CNN+ so it's good to see her getting another opportunity. I feel bad for Victor Blackwell. He finally moved to weekdays only to be sent back to weekends.

Very interesting to see what this looks like. I hope it's not gimmicky. I was confused by this line, though. Are they talking about a split screen? They're making it seem like CNN brought back the fake hologram thing.

KCBS 2/KCAL 9 - CBS Los Angeles News Thread

But I think they would rarely have anything in that spot above the bug. Most of the time, a "Coming Up" doesn't show live video. Just seems like another weird design choice that makes this package feel rushed and sloppy in many areas. -
KCBS 2/KCAL 9 - CBS Los Angeles News Thread

Guys, let's relax. We're allowed to have different opinions on local news branding without getting heated. Please. Anyway, new Sky Cal logo: (edit: just noticed that they're trying to emphasize the K, C, A and L letters with that odd shading) Why does the Coming Up banner have to be so tall? -
KCBS 2/KCAL 9 - CBS Los Angeles News Thread

Now it says KCAL NEWS / CBS LOS ANGELES. Let's cram a few more brands in that bug? KCAL NEWS / IN-N-OUT BURGER / DISNEYLAND / CBS LOS ANGELES -
I'm sure morale is low so any news of a win can be helpful to the staff. (I love the way the table looks to be that anchor's left shoulder.)

KCBS 2/KCAL 9 - CBS Los Angeles News Thread

I know I keep complaining that the new bug is too big, but look at this. Is it really necessary to scream LOS ANGELES on a bug like that? Imagine if they just used the KCAL NEWS square. Would be a nicer minimalist look. Right now it's just a waste of screen real estate. At least incorporate the time and temperature if it's not going to be elsewhere on the screen. -
KCBS 2/KCAL 9 - CBS Los Angeles News Thread

Rough start in the 4 a.m. hour with lots of technical difficulties. Anchor microphones didn't work, reporter microphones didn't work, they were unable to cut to the weather anchor. Yes, I know it's their first day but not really -- they've been rehearsing for weeks. Good news is that not 4 a.m. isn't the most watched hour. I'm still surprised that they didn't launch new weather graphics yet, and the old full screen was used for traffic. After all this time the graphics were still not ready for launch. I'm not a fan of how they use the same full screen animation for things like Live, Team Coverage, Weather, Traffic, etc. It gets old when the same thing is used every other minute. Otherwise, this is an interesting idea using KCAL News as the overall branding and doing something different in the morning. I've always thought it must be weird for West Coast viewers to get a three-hour-old national news broadcast. We shall see. -
That was when CBS This Morning launched nearly 11 years ago. They slowly moved away from that with more celebrity interviews. I think one reason they relaunched it as "CBS Mornings" was to signal that they were no longer as heavily focused on hard news. It's softer like CBS News Sunday Morning. I'm not a fan. And I still don't understand the purpose of putting them in Times Square if they're not going to use a real window or make use of the location.

I'm interested to see what the new weather graphics will look like when launched.
-
I'm rather disappointed. Even though I am opposed to the new numberless branding, I expected to like the new graphics. That bug is huge and it looks like a copy and paste of the CBS News streaming package (which is the point, I get it). Didn't think they could do worse than the outgoing O&O package but this feels lifeless to me. I expect a return to numbers within two years.

So sad. He was an excellent reporter. He wasn't seen on air very often because investigative reports take time, but they can get action. I remember when CNN first hired him from KCBS and he occasionally filled in as a weekend anchor.
-
I do see that the gallery description ends with: "Much more to come on this project, stay tuned." It would be nice to see a station roll out all elements of a new graphics package at the same time instead of doing it piecemeal.

Dana anchored last night (Sunday) as well. I liked Dana's and Kristine's interactions tonight. Dana and Dick did the 6.

Very nice tribute! Side note: It amazes me that even people who work in TV sometimes shoot vertical videos with their phones for TV.

At This Hour is still using the old New Day studio (and possibly also so is CNNI's Quest Means Business?), so I don't think that's going to be where CNN This Morning goes. Because the newsroom stopped being used shortly before CNN This Morning premiered, it's my guess that this will be for the mornings. They did have multiple sets built for CNN+ (I believe the temporary CNN This Morning one is one of them) so it's always possible one of those may be reworked
