  1. Random observation: sometime last week, the FOX5 and MY9 on screen bugs displayed during syndicated programming got much larger.
  2. You would figure that WCBS and WNYW are in the best positions for news and weather events, given their duopolies. WCBS did have a 7pm newscast on WLNY, but the fact they did not utilize it for additional coverage is bewildering. Considering WNBC does not utilize digital subchannels for overflow programming, they blew right through the afternoon national programming, which probably would not have gotten huge ratings anyway. In other WNBC related news... ‘Produce Pete,' a weekend mainstay on NBC New York for more than 30 years, dies at 80 https://www.nbcnewyork.com/on-air/as-seen-on/produce-pete/produce-pete-napolitano-dies-at-80/6450239/
  3. Sports Nation Nightly is also moving to 11pm, which makes more sense since local games would most likely be completed by that point and further the show's topics.
  4. Optimum has quietly dropped NBA TV, as the two sides allowed the programming contract to expire.
  5. The only programming that was really pre-empted was the Today show, which did not air after 8:30. WNBC rarely uses Cozi 4.2 as an overlow. Otherwise, WCBS aired the network programs on WLNY (from CBS Mornings at 8am through the soaps), and WABC aired their programming (beginning with GMA at 8:30) on Localish 7.2. Both WLNY and Localish 7.2 also took the various network special reports that aired during the morning.
  6. Today, FOX5 launched their 4pm "FOX5 News Block" hosted by Linda Schmidt. On MY9, they are now simulcasting the 9am hour of Good Day, with a repeat of "The Noon" at 1pm. That leaves WCBS as the only station without at 4pm newscast.
  7. Thousands in NY, NJ to lose access to NY1, News 12 in cable dispute. It appears Spectrum is going to drop News12, and Optimum will drop NY1 effective 6/30/2025. https://gothamist.com/news/thousands-in-ny-nj-to-lose-access-to-ny1-news-12-in-cable-dispute
  8. Tom Kaminski, formerly of WCBS880 and Air11 on WPIX was reporting in NewsCopter 7 tonight. Wonder if John or Shannon are cutting back or departing, or if Tom is just filling in?
  9. WLNY will air Brooklyn Nets games as an overflow for when they coincide with Yankees games on YES.
  10. Is the weekend morning news that important to them anymore? There does not seem to be much stability; no rush to replace Star Harvey, and much of the two hours is now cut to make room for Ben Around Town, or even Paid Programming/Infomercials.
  11. It seems like they air the live newscast at its regular time on MY9, and then air a repeat on FOX5 after the sporting event has concluded. Last night, they aired the 10:00 news on MY9 and then repeated it with "previously recorded" on the screen after the Padres vs. Dodgers game. On Monday, the 5:00 and 6:00 newscasts are listed for MY9 due to the NLCS.
  12. Does anyone know if PIX still has Air11? I have not seen it used for morning traffic or breaking news. According to Tom Kaminski's IG, it says, "former helicopter reporter for WCBS880 & @pix11news 1988-2024." When WCBS880 signed off, did that mean the end of Air11 too?
  13. It was not mentioned, but due to last Saturday night's college football game, the News at 10 aired in full on MY9 instead. They have been utilizing MY9 a lot more than they have in the past.
  14. The move may be quicker, according to the listings, this begins Monday, 8/26.
  15. Beginning in September, it sounds like the 9am newscast (at least on air; perhaps it will survive on streaming) is being replaced by the hour long Drew Barrymore. https://www.nexttv.com/news/drew-barrymore-renewed-through-season-six-on-cbs-owned-stations
