  1. The only thing he would have to put up for MPB-Television (it hasn't been Mississippi ETV since the early 80s, if not before) is their :15-sec station IDs which consists of different shots from around Mississippi (a county courthouse in one, some wildlife in another, the Biloxi beachfront, etc), the MPB logo (which is an M with what looks like a tire treadmark through it) and their station/repeater COLs scrolling across.

Sometimes they get fancy and read their positioning statement "Educating, Entertaining and Enlightening: MPB."

    That's it.

Mississippi ETV became MPB in 2005 and for countless years until he retired, Jack Schweitzer used to do the IDs/promos.

But of course, MPB is also known for bringing Clyde Frog, Tomes & Talismans, and Ticktock Minutes into America's homes and classrooms.

  2.

CBS Sports "The NCAA Today" from 1983 (with Brent Musburger, Pat O'Brien, and Ara Parseghian; the featured game is Michigan/Illinois from Illinois Memorial Stadium in Champaign, IL). Apparently, "The NCAA Today" was like "The NFL Today," only for the college game. This clip includes local content from WCIA and WAND.

And at the beginning of the video...a young Dan Roan (before he went to WGN)!

  3. May 2, 1978 open to CBC's "The National" with anchor Peter Kent:

And behind the scenes at BBC News on the day the British Chancellor of the Exechquer (equivalent to U.S. Treasury Secretary) Nigel Lawson resigns and future Prime Minister John Major takes his job:

    (with intro by Terry Wogan)

  4. The open to CTV National News from May 15, 2007:

If I were you, I would use KeepVid to download it RIGHT NOW before it gets "the message" (you know, the "This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by CTV Inc." message)!!

    UPDATE: It's still there!

  5. Uh, hate to say this, right show, wrong network..Canada Tonight was BCTV/ONtv (Part of the WIC stations group before they got bought by GLOBAL and became CH)

    Not CBC..

Thanks...dunno that much about Canadian television. Still an interesting capsule of time.

And, at the time, CBC's flagship newscast was the ill-fated "Prime Time News" with Peter Mansbridge and Pamela Wallin. "The National" was still on the air, but on Newsworld.

PTN was at 9:00 pm opposite very heavy competition on CTV and the U.S. networks, while The National was still at 10:00 pm. Later in the fall, PTN returned to 10:00 with Mansbridge as solo anchor.

In the fall of 1995, after slumping ratings, CBC ended the pain once and for all by firing Wallin and returning The National back to the mother network where it belonged.
