Hopefully WHEN Allen Media takes control of Tegna, TWC can be more of an asset. As it is right now, it was castoff by NBC/Bain after their malignment of the channel trying to "fill time". Now, this "time filler" is the norm after hours and they dropped the ball on this coverage. The local stations could assist TWC in covering the weather where it happens on the ground, and TWC should be able to step in with additional coverage and analysis of weather when it happens for a local station should they be affected by the storm itself. There really needs to be more weather coverage OTA. It's largely gone away in favor of other diginets. You have an AccuWeather or WeatherNation channel here and there, but it's very sparse, and it really hasn't been good coverage ever since NBC's WeatherPlus went away. And that played second fiddle to TWC and could have cause the same with WeatherPlus taking some of the "Weather" out of TWC. Distribution-wise, it's a challenge since the grids (power & data) could be affected by the storm itself. Going digital seems to make it harder to get the information out since cell phone networks could be toppled by a tower collapse or data failure somewhere in the chain. And even the most well-intentioned backup plans can be felled by a bad storm.
-
Now they just need to work on their distribution. For a Roku user, the only way to really watch it is to seek it out on the Fox-owned Tubi app. But yes, they are doing a great job covering the storm as TWC (and pretty much all of the other national news networks) have dropped the ball on this severe weather event.

Gray is certainly the new start that these stations (and all of the other Meredith stations) so desperately need. And after the decades of failure in Atlanta, Gray is truly making this their hometown flagship and a focal point for their presence in Atlanta. And by bringing Monica on board, it could be a way to finally take on WSB in the ratings and take advantage of the cost-cutting going on with Apollo and their gutting of Cox.
-
Gray has hired Monica Pearson to host two shows on WGCL and Peachtree TV. She is well known for her years on WSB (mostly as Monica Kaufman) until she retired in 2012. https://www.ajc.com/life/radiotvtalk-blog/monica-pearson-joining-cbs46-peachtree-tv-to-host-two-programs/DYDXV5UYGFCNBDKF4G4VVT655Q/?outputType=amp

And Trump was the only thing going for NBC in the Zucker era (The Apprentice) as he was running them into the ground, and right before the Jay Leno disaster, he even quipped that NBC may never be #1 in primetime again. Both of them deserve a special place in hell for what they have done. Zucker fueled his ego to the point, well, we know the rest of the story.....
-
Jeff Zucker? Although I hope there's no more higher place he can fall upwards into.

Their presence on NewsON was a relic of Raycom having their stations on there. I figured it was only a matter of time.

Ryan Eldredge is no longer at WHP in Harrisburg. https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2021/11/15/gone-in-harrisburg Go back a page and scroll up a few posts, and you can likely put 2 and 2 together (as Scott Jones inferred as well in his post)

These sets are becoming more room-like, and not in a good way. And what's the deal with the massive "Gray" logo on the right?
-
Looks like Inyo has done the same thing, moving their "studios" to Salt Lake City.

I swear this is going to be the next Adelphia to go down in flames and be broken up into pieces. Even if it's just a standard bankruptcy notwithstanding any criminal charges against the executives that have run this company into the ground and defiled our nation's broadcasting principles for the last several decades.

Well, the plan to launch a DTC option may be in jeopardy since many franchises are still not willing to enter into digital rights with "Bally Sports" https://www.cordcuttersnews.com/sinclair-renews-rsn-deals-may-not-have-streaming-rights-for-a-direct-to-consumer-service/ The icing on the cake? They don't even have the gambling rights! That's right. BALLY SPORTS network does not have the GAMBLING rights. Maybe a different naming partner would have been a good idea. Someone put this dumpster fire of a company out of its misery. NOW.

There could be a future Gray repeater in the Mobile area. There's a new station (W31FB-D) currently licensed to Eastabuchie, MS (outside of Hattiesburg) but has a transmitter in Baldwin County east of Mobile and west of Pensacola. They're owned by Lowcountry 34 Media. A similar station exists in Laurel, MS, the COL for Gray station WDAM, and Gray picked up that station from Lowcountry. I guess any action depends on when the Meredith sale closes, but this station could possibly be tied to WALA in some form, even if its a low power UHF repeater. WDAM is also VHF, and may have the same issues that is causing Gray to move to UHF wherever and however possible.

Regardless of the circumstances, Morris is picking up released talent left and right. Dave Staley, the longtime sports director of WTVC in Chattanooga who was let go in the Sinclair budget cuts, is now at WDEF as a reporter/anchor and it looks like he's been there since July. These vaccine mandates (and economic hardship by his former employer in this case) probably play a role in diminishing the more restrictive covenants of one's contract.
-
She must have a very weak contract, and it may not have had a non-compete provision in it. WLOX was basically the only news game in the Biloxi-Gulfport market until 2013, when WXXV finally re-started a full-time challenge to them. For comparison, when Alan Sealls jumped from WKRG to WPMI, the off air period from the time he left WKRG and re-appeared on WPMI was only about 6 months.

Sinclair Broadcast Group - General Discussion

Sounds like they are only able to air the raw network feeds. A telltale sign of that for NBC is that when a local break is supposed to happen, you'll see black, then a color-changing NBC peacock with the occasional NBC sounder. -

In Mobile/Pensacola: WEAR is in their 10pm newscast without breaks and graphics. Lots of weather segments and national packages (clearly being played from YouTube as you can see the play controls pop up in the beginning) As soon as the news was over, the station went to the Charge! feed. WPMI is in Sunday Night Football...may just be the network feed from NBC. WFGX and WJTC are both in the Charge! feed. Normally it's WEAR 3.3. All of the subchannels are up and running, except for Dabl on 44.3. They had a pretty bad local meltdown a few months ago (unrelated) that basically took down the Master Control hub in Pensacola that controls all 4 stations for a few hours. Just network and studio feeds, with a slate otherwise. -
A brilliant plan. Sell off a station to another owner, only to let them wither away enough to buy them back when it falls below the threshold of owning multiple stations.

Too bad KFBB is not a Gray station. It would be perfect! Let us "BEE" your #1 station! (and yes, this was actually their logo at one time) -
I could see Amanda Barren resurfacing at either WCHS or WOWK. Lots of former WSAZ people, whether they left on their own terms or fired for cause have crossed the street. Given Sinclair's past "bias" and the general consensus of politics in West Virginia, they would throw money at her when she's free and clear to jump over. And if the only reason was because of the vaccine, well, you get the idea. While not related, lest we forget Tom McGee, who's antics didn't stop him from going from WCHS (first DUI)....to WOWK (lawsuit and bad behavior)....back to WCHS (second dui), and resurfacing at the failed WHCP (now Gray's WQCW) news department. While these antics ended his time at each station, the memory was short enough for him to start anew elsewhere.

I know we are hearing of all of the carnage from high-profile Gray employees getting released. I wonder how the rank-and-file is holding up. Didn't Gray already disclose that a large number of their staff was already vaccinated? We may see a lawsuit or two down the road, especially if they were advised by their doctor not to take the vaccine for a legitimate medical reason. But the latter is probably your typical anti-vaxxer who's thought all along this is all a big hoax and this is the greatest infringment of their rights in this country's history. And a few months down the road, when their non-competes are up, I'm sure their non-mandating competition will scoop them up with open arms (especially if they rhyme with TIN-clair and HEX-star)

Add another to the Gray "purge" of the unvaccinated. WLOX morning anchor Meggan Gray. https://www.nola.com/news/coronavirus/vaccine/article_f61820f8-26dc-11ec-aa15-33268bc4d722.htmlhttps://www.nola.com/news/coronavirus/vaccine/article_f61820f8-26dc-11ec-aa15-33268bc4d722.html

And most likely, Amanda Barren of WSAZ. https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2021/10/6/gone-missing-in-west-virginia If she resurfaces in Charleston-Huntington, either Sinclair (WCHS/WVAH) or Nexstar (WOWK) could grab her. Given the current state of politics in West Virginia, it seems like its only a matter of time before WSAZ's uber-dominance there comes into question.

TEGNA Broadcasting and Digital General Discussion
tyrannical bastard replied to ABC 7 Denver's topic in Corporate Chat
Another brilliant move by the idiots running WKYC studios. Give away the lead in to Saturday Night Live to WOIO by making them the ONLY newscast available at the time! (College football is on ABC and WEWS's 11pm show is often delayed because of it during the fall) This makes the pilot of 20/20 seem like award winning journalism. And that was a widely ridiculed bomb at the time. Seriously, Channel 3's (I refuse to call them anything else at the moment) slogan needs to be "Hold My Beer".- 3687 replies

Hopefully the latter. Likely the marketing people up the ladder of Gray have taken the reins and are ready to bring down the new look and branding. The look they have now just screams "interim" because of it's unholy mess of old and new elements.
