  1. 19 News took a tour with Cleveland mayor Justin Bibb of Reserve Square, the complex where WOIO and WUAB have been located since 1995 inside the basement of this residential complex. To put it nicely, this place has really gone to hell... Gray should have moved them out when they could have especially when they could have built their own station. https://www.cleveland19.com/2026/03/04/cleveland-mayor-wants-faster-court-action-reserve-square-building-complaints/
  2. Which one...the Nexstar or the GrayOne font? If it's Google, it's likely an open source thing to (wait for it.....) save on licensing actual fonts from their creators...cheapness strikes again!
  3. Scripps is hell bent on making themselves a cluster before they go under...so now two stations can be at risk instead of just the one! WTVQ is no prize, but a neutered version of it under Scripps is worse than a standalone station, even by someone like Morris.
  4. Agreed. It's more refined than GrayOne. That font they use for it just gets on my nerves... But with Nexstar's recent moves, they're starting to consolidate and cut back the diversity of their stations. Creative departments have been largely eliminated, voiceovers are another "SpotVoice" client, and going forward, this could cheapen the look of Nexstar's stations even more. And this is before the Tegna merger. Some of the cues seem to be a little "off" during the 5pm I'm watching now. I wonder if WJW finally went with some kind of automation (if they didn't already....)
  5. His retirement must have been one of the triggers for Nexstar to replace him with people from SpotVoice. I know Steve Kamer is still doing voiceovers for WKRG (but Jim Cutler is no longer on WFNA). Are there any other traditional voice talent still being used on Nexstar stations?
  6. The good news is that they went with the newest (and most tolerable) Nexstar package. The bad news is that Nexstar has now made their mark on WJW. I caught a blip the other day on the old look and Beau Weaver was already removed for a "spot voice" vo guy... And this is the same package that WKBN over in Youngstown just switched to a few months ago. Could this be the "NexstarOne" look going forward?
  7. 54 million seems like a large amount of money for a company of Scripps' condition. It virtually makes themselves a poison pill to any company that tries to buy them. Even a market like Cleveland would be a triopoly unless they rid themselves of the WDLI license tied to WVPX's frequency since WDLI's spectrum was sold in the spectrum auction by TBN, their prior owners.
  8. We all know about the cuts that went down in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago, but I have to wonder how the rest of the country is doing under Nexstar's cost-cutting binge. I've heard reports that Creative Service departments are taking it hard across all of their stations, and may begin hubbing into regions if they haven't already.
  9. I'm just going to throw in a FUCK NEXSTAR here. Absolutely uncalled for for WGN to undergo this kind of decimation so they have some extra pennies to destroy what's left of Tegna and to help Perry Sook suck up to the FCC and this godless excuse of an administration. I really hope Nexstar fails spectacularly when their massive debt catches up with them and their game plan of gouging viewers and pay TV systems runs dry...
  10. Well, to bump this thread one last time with the fate of the Glendive market.... Montana PBS consummated the sale of KXGN and KYUS on October 22nd. So the Glendive market still exists, it just doesn't have any commercial stations inside of it anymore. YouTubeTV has replaced KXGN with KTVQ as the CBS affiliate of record for Glendive customers.
  11. It may be for the duration of the current contract NBC is under... Anyone know when their rights to carry the Olympics are up?
  12. Are former NBCUNI networks carrying the games grandfathered (locked in) by the current arrangement even through they are now part of Versant? And if so, for how long?
  13. I'd be curious to see how this plays out over the affiliate base and if Scripps has a channel to fill in for any contractual duration. Other groups may just shutter the subchannels or fill in with their own non-carried diginets. Nexstar could build out their "Rewind TV" footprint in some markets and even take back the network if the contract to air it has lapsed or expired elsewhere.
  14. I'm curious to see how WEWS and WCPO, their "flagships" are holding up these days. I don't buy for a second from the Nexstar/Tegna paperwork that WOIO is #1 and WJW is #3. WEWS is probably 2nd or 3rd in Cleveland and WCPO is probably the same in Cincinnati?
  15. Not withstanding the destructive moves in their news departments, I think much of the decline of the Scripps stations was when they sent prime syndication offerings packing to their competitors, in favor of cheaper "inbred" options that have all since been canceled. And I don't think in any case, any of the shows they sent packing came back. I would think the only exception would be any stations they bought In recent times that already had pre-existing deals. But running pre-recorded newscast jukeboxes is not a winning formula, especially at the expense of the staff it used to require to put on an actual newscast.
  16. Even Sinclair stations are reporting on this on their local newscasts. Seriously, are they trying to score some brownie points from the FCC for all of their mis-deeds of the past?
  17. It's thievery in a way to circumvent an outright purchase. Rincon is another shell game to hold the FCC bag while Sinclair can swipe the primary program stream to put on their own channel. Well, maybe more like a trade, since the affected station gets a Sinclair diginet in return. And as for the affected stream, it will still be "Fox 23" for the foreseeable future (on KTUL 8.2) unless they drive it into the ground enough so that it actually has to be rebranded...
  18. An update on Tallahassee ever since Gray took their newscast on "Fox 49" home... "Fox 49" News at 10 launches on Monday the 9th. It will be an "in-house" newscast....(meaning that Sinclair will now produce it). The catch? It will be done out of WEAR over in Pensacola. Melanie Levi and Allen Strum will be anchoring it. Melanie is also a WEAR reporter and has anchored over at "NBC 15" in Mobile when needed, since they're down to like 3 people. And as for NBC 40? Still no news on the horizon aside from Today Show weather updates (also done by Allen Strum, WEAR's chief met)
  19. If Nexstar was only that stupid. Putting it on the CW would be a disaster in the making that would really roil their viewers, advertisers, and likely even the other networks they carry.
  20. Perry Sook could always sign on the CW at the last minute as a favor to the administration to try and green light his merger with Tegna...
  21. Remember that rival halftime show that Turning Point USA said they were going to put on... then didn't... and brought back again? It's back.... And Sinclair's gonna Sinclair... By airing it on Charge! and on TND.... We'll see if they follow through with it this time....
  22. What we're beginning to see is regionalization of what was once local markets. A side effect of a company like Sinclair having control of adjacent network affiliates and shoehorning SSA stations on to their own. Going back to the rebranding of WCHS "8abc" and "Fox Appalachia"...., that could be another brand down in Bristol/Kingsport with "Fox 39".... and once KOKI and KOKH are under the same management..."Fox Oklahoma".... "NBC Gulf Coast" might work for Mobile/Pensacola and possibly Tallahassee, and "Fox Ohio" may be good enough for Columbus, and even Dayton.... Sinclair is taking their Clear Channel-style consolidation up a notch....
  23. And with all of this shuffling and consolidation, they still won't put a "local" newscast in St. Louis on KDNL ABC 30.
  24. Makes me wonder what will become of WHBQ in Memphis. How long before Sinclair "takes them over" as well? At least they stand alone and do well. But there's probably some opportunity to cut and hub elsewhere... Not to mention putting on their legendary "TND" on wherever they can to save a buck (and spread more propaganda)...
  25. It's bad enough that KTUL got decimated by Sinclair. It's downright appalling that it appears KOKI is going to be gutted as well. That basically leaves Griffin and Scripps to serve the market, and even Scripps is in a risky position as well. Sickening for a market of Tulsa's size.
