  1. It's things like these that make deregulation and HUGE companies like Amazon a bad idea....
  2. To sum up the changes to WEAR and WPMI: WEAR 3.1 ABC "WEAR ABC 3" 3.2 NBC "NBC 15" (both in HD) WPMI 15.1 Roar (HD) 15.2 Quest 15.3 Charge! 15.4 The Nest (Subchannels in SD) WEAR also hosts WJTC 44.2 (Rewind) and WJTC 44.3 (True Crime Network) WPMI also hosts WJTC 44.1 (UTV44). WJTC is one of the 3.0 stations in the market carrying all of the Sinclair station's primary streams, as well as relaying WALA 10.1 over the internet.
  3. The market also has KNSN, a (soon-to-be former) Deerfield station.
  4. Birmingham's "most improved" station, WIAT, is celebrating 60 years on the air... https://www.cbs42.com/video/celebrating-60-years-of-cbs-42/11176687 Given it's tortured history during it's days at WBMG, I'd say they did a good job covering it's past before it was literally "blown up" by Media General as WIAT. New Vision and LIN had some great years when Media General traded up to (tank) WVTM, but it's recovered nicely under Nexstar's ownership to become a fixture in the market. Hearst undid Media General's damage at WVTM, while James Spann 33/40 soldiers on with him still doing the weather despite Sinclair's ownership.
  5. WIAT in Birmingham also has this package...ditching the CBS look as well. WKRG and WHNT still have the old CBS look....I wonder if either of them are next in line to get it?
  6. Wasn't "Sleuth" a distant reboot of the "Trio" network? It's sad to see what's happened to all of the "Arts and Entertainent" networks over the years. Especially Bravo morphing from a somewhat highbrow channel into the reality slop that it's known for today. Another of Jeff Zucker's crimes against humanity. It's the "Real Housewives of...." that I"m referring to...not their first reality shows like "Queer Eye" that began to shift the channel.
  7. Larry Burns must have been in charge of the rebrand
  8. Upon further inspection of the Zap2it TV listings post October 20th, it appears "Charge!" Is also moving to WPMI 15.3 from WEAR 3.3. WEAR 3.3's listings say "Channel is no longer available" after the 20th. As for "The Nest" which currently occupies WPMI 15.3, it will probably move to a yet to be created WPMI 15.4. In order to accommodate "NBC 15" on WEAR 3.2 in HD, that's likely why 3.3 is going away. And if all of WPMI is going to be in SD (aside from WJTC 44.1's 1.0 feed) they have some extra real estate to split between SD subchannels. WEAR carries WJTC's two other subchannels in SD since WJTC is a 3.0 station.
  9. The Sinclair shell game has officially come to Mobile and Pensacola... NBC 15 is moving from WPMI to WEAR 3.2 beginning on October 20th. WEAR 3.2's "Roar" is moving to WPMI 15.1. So now at last, "NBC 15" is now officially a Sinclair station without any involvement from Deerfield. Which does not bode well for its future after what Sinclair has done to the place over the last several years...
  10. Guess they needed the cash after all... Too bad Auburn University doesn't own a PBS or NPR station...That would be quick sale to APT/APR to buy out Hugh Freeze WHEN they fire him....
  11. If he does pay his way onto CBS, better hope that it's cash up front, and not a check (that's likely to bounce)
  12. Seems like this is more financially damning than the whole Jerry Sandusky / Joe Paterno scandal that ended the latter's tenure as head coach and vacated a lot of their wins at the time. College Football is out of control and the NIL deals / transfer portal are only making it worse. These schools need to clamp down on their deals and loosen the contracts of coaches who can't get wins on the field or make their teams competetive. No way should a failed coach be able to collect millions of dollars for a contract he signed. But PBS is just a drop in the bucket here and the local community loses out on a trusted resource because of athletics and their grossly inept and out of control spending. On the flipside, expect to see more sports on PBS stations, especially that of high school teams. Alabama Public Television has partnered with the AHSAA to broadcast a weekly "Game of The Week" statewide on their stations, as well as airing the "Super 7" tournament on their stations.
  13. Expanding on my previous post... Looking at the Zap2it listings for October 20th.... Beginning at 6am CT for WPMI 15.1, the listings change to those like "Roar" just on an hour delay of what's listed on WEAR 3.2. WEAR 3.3 (Charge!) has "Channel No Longer Available" on that date. So it looks very much like "NBC 15" is on the move.....
  14. Missed this one from a few weeks back, and for a Sinclair station, it's a nice surprise. WFGX launched "The Morning Current", an hour-long extension of WEAR's morning newscast that airs from 7-8am, finally giving WALA some local competition in the morning ever since WKRG dropped their 7am newscast almost 20 years ago (at CBS's behest during another ill-fated relaunch of "The Early Show)... https://weartv.com/news/local/wear-news-to-launch-new-show-the-morning-current-on-wfgx Color me surprised since I thought Sinclair was done adding secondary news shows on their secondary stations, relegating that to "TND". They dropped a 9pm show in favor of this when it was starting to take hold... So while Pensacola is still Sinclair's favored child, WPMI and WJTC in Mobile are being pillaged as the red-headed stepchildren of the market, and a case study in why Nexstar should NOT buy Tegna, and any top-4 mergers being proposed should be scuttled. And stay tuned, because I'm hearing "NBC 15" might be moving soon...much like other Sinclair sidecar stations have done in recent years...so get ready for "NBC 15"....on WEAR? We shall see. Gracenote data uncovered on AVSForum has Roar starting on WPMI 15.1 next Monday (it's currently WEAR 3.2), so could a swap be in the works?
  15. At least with someone like Perry Sook, he's just LARPing as a media mogul. Not only is Byron Allen LARPing as a wanna-be media mogul, he's been trying to be a comedian his whole career as well....
  16. Oh dear god no! Byron should consider himself lucky enough that "Comics Unleashed" got their 12:37 time back. But Byron Allen's gonna Byron Allen, and we'll see the same repeats over and over again, year after year...
  17. What took them so long? There's sadly lots of real estate for Nexstar to slap someone else's sponsor logo on.... This happening is like Nexstar FINALLY putting their newscasts on devices...
  18. Ideastream in Northeast Ohio is taking heat for taking over Cleveland State University's 89.3 WCSB-FM https://www.insideradio.com/free/decision-to-transfer-wcsb-operations-to-ideastream-draws-protest/article_2d281a5d-a852-45b3-8a45-c243bf4ff616.html Ideastream is PBS station WVIZ, classical station WCLV 90.3 (the old WCPN and NPR member station for Cleveland), NPR station 89.7 WKSU and associated repeaters (owned by Kent State University and formerly a stand-alone NPR station) as well as 104.9 WCPN, once the relocated home of WCLV and their classical format and now a repeater for WKSU. Ideastream is taking over the largely student-run station to put a jazz format in it's place...it was the longtime format of 90.3 WCPN before they merged with WVIZ to form Ideastream. The station pumps out a mere 630 watts, so it's more of a loss for the students and community who listen to the station's alternative format. It's almost like we have a PBS/NPR Nexstar-like broadcaster take over, but in this day and age with no more federal funding and CPB, it was a certainty... I hope the University of Akron's WZIP-FM stays out of Ideastream's hands....or they don't get any more ideas..... At least Western Reserve PBS is still around....for now....
  19. Technically "moved" since both WXIX and WWSB are both Gray stations. Also a promotion since she will be a chief at a full-market station since WWSB is only oriented to the Sarasota area of Tampa-St. Pete....
  20. Any chance David Bernard would come back to New Orleans after leaving WVUE? It seems like he was done with TV when he left. And as much as I would love to see Bob Breck back on TV, he's been active as a pitchman and is probably done with TV as well...
  21. Good to see this graphics package is making it's way around Nexstar. The CBS look was getting a little stale.
  22. Really, the only things keeping broadcast tv going at this point is news (the morning shows), live sports, "live" reality shows (like DWTS, AGT, etc...) and the ability to broadcast breaking news. Anything else is cheap filler (like daytime game shows rebooted in primetime) or better off on streaming. The way things are going, if the FCC is going to be weaponized like the rest of the US Government, people will be running towards streaming if the FCC starts really cracking down and controlling stations to the point of dictating their output. Then when this regime is over (if ever...), the next FCC can pick up the pieces and put the stations in the hands of community members who can better serve our communities. Nexstar may be serving 90+ percent of the country by then, but at least some of the airspace could be back in the hands of local broadcasters using broadcast to better serve their communities...we can only hope...
  23. Nah, it's just Perry Sook achieving his goal as a media mogul as the last standing broadcaster, when he's bought up all of the stations after the others have been returned to the FCC...
  24. At this rate, the CW is going to be the last broadcast network standing because Nexstar owns it, they're taking back affiliations to put on their stations, and when they start losing the other major networks, they have a better station of theirs to put it on.
  25. While Sinclair (and Nexstar) have been busy keeping Jimmy Kimmel off the air, they've been back to their old tricks of peddling misinformation. https://www.techdirt.com/2025/09/29/sinclair-broadcasting-takes-a-break-from-protecting-local-communities-by-banning-comedians-to-spread-tylenol-disinformation/ It's past time the networks pull their affiliations from Sinclair. That's the only way they'll learn.
