1. Anybody want a bowl of Scripps brand cereal? This is from WXYZ's brand new morning promo. The show is likely being converted back to a traditional 2 anchors with Weather and Traffic together format after having been expanded in April to include a live center and social media component... That conversion effort fell very very flat...

I'll upload the full promo later...

Is it part of our complete breakfast?

  2. Whoopi is under contract until 2016 however, ABC owned stations and affiliates have long term contracts to air Kelly & Michael at 9am. Ben Sherwood wants a third hour of Good Morning America but doesn't mind it being detached from the main two hours, so here's a solution:

Let The View run through the end of next season then in fall 2016, ABC News can give the hour over to Good Morning America to run a third hour with some quick news hits and a lot of celebrity interviews and cooking. Have it go out live at 10am eastern and tell affiliates they can air it at 10am or 11am, depending on syndicated contracts they have. For the 8am hour sign off just have the anchors say "Good Morning America continues later this morning right here on ABC..."

Maybe but that would be overkill....

  3. Let's play programming exec....

    What would you do?

The only stipulation is you cannot give back the hour to local.

My decision would be to beg Baba to come back in a final "hail mary" attempt to milk that thing to the end of the big contracts.

    3yr maximum.

What would the rest of you do?

This may sound nuts...but since game shows, soaps and syndicated shows are out of the question, my guess is the View can take advantage of its ABC News production unit and have the show go as a straight hard news program. A la Nightline.

Or show reruns of 20/20's umbrella shows, "What Will You do?" That brings in the 18-49 Women demographic. And it serves as a good lead in to the midday news.

  4. By the way, if anyone curious to find out the extended theme, search the title track "Explorers" on the killer tracks' search engine. It's a good track. By the way, as a native new yorker, it's been years since i've seen this open. I hit the jackpot on accident after searching for a different station and year. Oh the years when i was young watching Jim Ryan and the "good day gang". Seeing the open brought back the distant memory I had remembered.

Good Day New York Dec. 1993 open (with the controversy surrounding the EMS and then mayor-elect Guiliani) with the Kalehoff classic "Good Day" theme.

Part 2 into the continuation of the controversy

Man, I'm not a NYer, but when I do watch that particular open it feels that you are watching a NY program, as opposed to today's shell of its former self.

  5. WCBS "It's 2" Promo. Starts at the 5 minute mark:

The biggest irony is that, this is a LOCAL image campaign which has the budget/feel of a NATIONAL campaign. (Can you believe the same year this was when CBS had "TV You Can Feel (aka You can Feel it on CBS)??" If only the network had the cojones to use it as the NATIONAL promo who knew it would give ABC and NBC a run for its money. :bang:

  6. Chroma Cues isn't cheesy. WJZ has used it for over 20 years and I think it's better than some of the 615 crap.

I'm not from B-more, but I find the Chroma Cues news theme very cool, considering it was written by Bruce Upchurch (writes jingles for JAM, JonesTM and did a news package for WRC-TV)
