  1. I suspect Mr. Perry was based in Cleveland. I recall hearing his voice on a spot on the then 3WE radio (now WTAM) for the Cleveland Symphony (at Severance Hall). The WILX link to him makes sense, because at that time the station was owned by Cleveland-based conglomerate ATO, which morphed into Figgie Communications. I believe there is (or was) a promo for Dayton's WHIO-TV's Newscenter 7 that used Mr. Perry's talents.
  2. He prolly got some wisdom on the commute between NYC and Washington by the previous hose of Face, who did the commute to do the Evening News, Mr. Bob Schieffer.
  3. More on Peters: -Any station that used the "Alive" branding were or are Peters, it appears -Most of the Storer Broadcasting stations (Sorry WSBK/Boston) were clients as were the Combined Communications (the nucleus of Gannett nee Tegna) stations and "2 Together" was not Peters first rodeo with WJBK; I present this: Another Peters client also used that style 2, WNGE/ Nashville
  4. The Peters-WJBK connection: And Peters and WJKW WKZO TV and Peters; when they were AcTiVe 3
  5. the "we're 4" was a nod to the station's new call letters (The former WBEN-TV) W we're IV Four B Buffalo No sign of the Klein& campaign.... Now the news music that was being used at this time was Mayoham's "Bringing it home to You". As an aside, that meant that for a time in the late 70's the Niagara Frontier's big 3 tv stations were using Mayoham packages. (KB Move Closer, 'GR Part of You Life, and the aforementioned 'IVB package).
  6. Interesting back story about 'KRC's coverage that night.... It almost never happened... Let Mr. Clooney and colleagues share w/ you.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=DCN19c3EYYM;m=3;s=32
  7. And there is the fact that by that time CBS owned WCCO, and one way for the eye to 'hurt' the Deathstar/KARE was to take their popular met away, and if things didn't work out at 'BBM, bring him back to the Twin Cities to be chief @ CCO.
  8. My mistake, to paraphrase Twain The reports of Dave Deval's passing are premature....
  9. The announcer in that open? The late Dave Deval.
  10. Complete with the 'CCO-style 'Hot tub' desks (in fact 'CCO was also using Newsmat when they had that particular set.)
  11. Yay KPIX with the "set in the round" in action. I believe that this was the last set 'PIX used @ their Van Ness studios, before moving to 855 Battery....
  12. Twas Chuck Mangione... Bellavia. I can tell you that this music was also used as a newscast close at sister Meredith station WNEM BayCity/Saginaw/Flint. I suspect when the GM of 'NEM was promoted to that position at KPHO, he also brought that music as a close with...
  13. WFRV and its sister/satellite WJMN in Michigan's UP were owned by the Norton Family of Louisville (Orion Broadcasting) who I believe commissioned Al Ham's "Home Country" for their station group WAVE TV/AM (yes they were used on the radio station too), WFIE Evansville, WMT-TV Cedar Rapids, and the WFRV/WJMN combo. (Fun factiod, the WJMN calls reflect the initials of Jane M. Norton) Carmichael-Lynch also I believe were responsible for 'CCO's classic "News for thinking people/ We're thinking news" slogan and campaign.
  14. NewStar was introduced by Hubbard Broadcasting for stations to promote their new SNG vehicles. In addition to Stanley's stations, I seem to recall the Hearst stations also signed up, as did H and C (KPRC, WTVF, WESH, KCCI) and others WJTV, WTVT, KWTV as well.....
  15. I'm thinking that this occurred around the time that WMAQ's Ron Magers and Carol Marin were having issues with their station adding their version of a clown, Jerry Springer as an ordinary potat...er commentator.
  16. The set in the round were in two varieties, WLS (with 2 Tri Vision weather/chromakey/station logo units) and the WXYZ variety (w/ 1 TriVision unit). In addition to WLS, the dual TriVision sets also were at KTVI, and KOB-TV. And along w/ WXYZ, the set in the round w/ single TriVision units included KPIX and WKYC. I am almost willing to bet that the book that noggi posted from the Broadcast Design Association may have both the WXYZ and KPIX sets described above complete with a listing of the materials used to build it... KPIX's version... And WKYC's.... and KOB's Photo's The shot with the logo is the Tri Vision, and the other is the actual set
  17. Graphics Express group of San Diego...... Tho sometimes the set designs were done in house by corporate, ie Group W's godawful set that WBZ and WJZ had in the late 70's, or Post Newsweek's simple set with a window (WTOP/WDVM, WFSB, and the first PNS designed set for WDIV). Then there was the "set in the round" which included either one or two TriVision weatherboard/chromakey units. The single Tri's included WXYZ, WKYC, and KPIX, and the dual Tri's included WLS, KTVI, and KOB-TV. And in fact, the Broadcast Design Association published a book with the schematics and blueprints so a local station could build their very own "set in the round".
  18. WSM-TV (and their owner National Life & Accident) used three of Mayoham's packages, MCTYW, A Part Of Your Life, and Home Country before acquiring Klein&'s We're 4 package.
  19. In the case of 'JBK, at least from the late '70's til the early 80's, the station collaborated w/ Peters on their image campaigns, ie, JBK's promo/ CS came up with the overarching theme of the campaign, Peters did the heavy lifting (writing the music) not unlike getting a custom made suit versus one off the rack. Sometimes it worked (2 Together), other times (the steaming pile of "TV2 is Yours" or the ineffective "Two is the One"), not so much... As for other Storer stations and Peters, I suspect 'The Winners' was specially made for 'JKW, then tweaked for 'TVG. And I think that WNGE Nashville's "A new Beat" may well be Peters as well, based on the "hump 2' that 'JBK used during the 'is yours' campaign
  20. Paulsen, Sally-Ann, and Meg Farris are about the last of the old-guard WWL (when Loyola owned them and J Michael Early and Phil Johnson had the station running at top form)
  21. Having listened to one of Mr. Ross' WPR podcasts, I believe he is the fella...
  22. Most, if not all Storer Broadcasting CBS affiliates did not think highly of the low rated CBS Late Movies, but they did like the option of showing syndicated fare like "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman" or "Fernwood2Night" (and of course, sell the ad time therein). This left CBS to shop the late movie to other stations in such markets so the eye's ad sales team could sell "nationwide" coverage to national advertisers.
