ATN7, Sydney, Australia; 1978 -- some of the spectacular landscape shots in this open remind me of KOOL from this era: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=vyVgfPjgO20;m=2;s=22 And for comparison, this is what the open to KOOL News (one of several versions) looked like:

From France, Antenne 2's national evening news on today' s date 40 years ago: I like how Antenne 2's opening sequence was always a bit different. A few days later, for example, the cameras followed the anchor as he made his way to the set from above:

From CNN's 20th anniversary special, here's a look at how CNN covered the events of that day: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=evWyzH_zaR4;t=23

What was it with WABC and short-lived anchors from nearby markets in the 1970s? Larry Kane also joined the station for about a year in 1977 before heading back to Philadelphia.

WABC, New York; late news, 1976; the Yankee's American League Pennant win is the top story:

I think we've mentioned this before, but this 1997 article provides an interesting behind-the-scenes account of KNXV's innovative launch format and how it was ultimately abandoned: http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/news/chit-happens-6423248

Here's more -- these promos give some indication of just how revolutionary KNXV's initial format and style were for the Phoenix market:

I think this will make Info Junkie's and Raymie's day -- it certainly made mine; some bits and pieces of KNXV during the station's piecemeal Fox-to-ABC affiliation switch:

A news promo for the Los Angeles independent KCOP, 1985: EDIT: And here's more KCOP from 1985:
