  1. From the Twin Cities, an interesting 1980s promo for KSTP's Newstar SNG truck:
  2. Ah, I see they aired MASH rather than Seinfeld in the early days 10 p.m. combo. The theme heard in that open, listed as "Unknown" on NMSA, was also used by POP TV in Slovenia in the mid-1990s (and was once included in a Gari music sampler):
  3. KOOL, Phoenix; 10 p.m. news, 1980:
  4. KTSP, Phoenix; news promo, 1986:
  5. Lars Clutterham's "EarWitness News" must be one of the most underrated themes ever; I just love its dramatic, almost cinematic orchestration. I assume this was its last-ever use?
  6. It is. His name is mentioned in the credits.
  7. Not just the first five minutes -- that was the length of the entire newscast at the time. Because four other stations were already airing news at 10 p.m., KPHO had decided to counterprogram in that timeslot instead of going head-to-head with full-length newscasts on KTVK, KSAZ, KPNX, and KNXV. Therefore, for its first few years as a CBS affiliate, the station aired a five-minute newscast at 10 p.m. and followed it with syndicated episodes of Seinfeld.
  8. VTV, Vancouver, 1997: VTV's pre-launch promotional video, 1997:
  9. A 15-minute compilation of CNN International promos from 1991:
  10. KPHO, promo for the 11:30 a.m. news, 1981: KTVK, news tease, 1981:
  11. Back to Phoenix we go (thanks to ewjxn), with a KPHO close from 1981:
  12. Wow! A complete 10 p.m. KTVK newscast from the final days of the station's ABC affiliation:
  13. This promo has reminded me of the sung segment open used by KTVK in the early years of Good Evening Arizona before extended CNN segments: "Bringing you the world, we're the home of CNN!" I wonder if that jingle has ever popped up on YouTube?
  14. ^^^^ Those were recorded just a few weeks before KTVK lost its ABC affiliation. At the time, Good Morning America and, I believe, World News Tonight had already migrated to KNXV, but prime time ABC programming was still on KTVK. (The channel had even filed an unsuccessful complaint with the FCC to prevent ABC from switching to KNXV.)
  15. Ah, you were right:
  16. I'm intrigued by your suggestion that more good stuff is coming our way! The past few days have certainly been an early Christmas for those of us interested in the Phoenix market.
  17. I'm sure this will make Raymie's day... a KPNX tease from the "Real Life, Real News" era, 1991:
  18. The voice who did the "Arizona's News People" opens can also be heard in this promo:
  19. KARE, Minneapolis/St. Paul; Sunrise, 1992:
  20. Staying in Phoenix, but moving from KPNX to KTSP, here's a "24 Hour News" update, also from 1992:
  21. Anyone know more about this 6:30 p.m. newscast from KPNX? The promo is vaguely KTVK-like in style.
  22. And speaking of KTVK, here's a halftime sports report from 1992:
  23. I would also love to see anything from KTVK's "The News Image" and "Turn To News" eras; if I'm not mistaken, we've only ever seen a brief middle-of-the-newscast fragment of the former, while a brief election open and a promo is all we've got of the latter.
  24. But in 1992, KTVK was still Phoenix's ABC affiliate. Ewjxn's latest upload includes several KTVK promos and a news tease recorded in October of that year:
  25. A brief -- but also rare -- KNXV promo from the latter part of the "No Chit-Chat" era:
