1. KTVK (then still an ABC affiliate) was anchored live from Chicago during the 1993 NBA finals -- here's a report showing how the remote broadcast was carried out:
2. WMAQ, Chicago; 10 p.m., 1983:
3. Here's the Australian version of this promo:
4. I always enjoy your posts, fox2!
5. WLS, Chicago; news promo (Fahey's World Tour), 1981:
6. WMAQ, Chicago; news promo, 1978:
7. I believe WBAL-AM in Baltimore used the ITN / ITV News theme a few years ago, but I can't find any clips.
8. BTW, here's a promo for KTVK's (weekday) Good Evening Arizona from this period [low resolution clip]: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nc-hPw_YRzQ
9. KTVK, Phoenix; 10 p.m. weekend news, February 1995 (when the station was freshly independent, but still using its ABC-era look at 10 p.m.):
10. WFLD, Chicago; 9 p.m. news, 1991: WGN, Chicago; 9 p.m. news, 1984:
11. A WLS promo from 1968, the early days of the "Flynn-Daly News" format (later renamed "Eyewitness News"):
12. The Morning Program on CBS was another famous failure of Shanks's. Of course, his biggest success was creating the first morning show that threatened Today -- the original Good Morning America:
13. In its entirety, here's the legendarily disastrous launch edition of 20/20 -- so poorly received that both anchors, as well as the show's executive producer (Bob Shanks), were fired within the week:
14. This compilation of old KHJ (Los Angeles) material includes the December 1989 farewell to KHJ and a sneak preview of KCAL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXgwL1T3Bbg
15. Staying in the Windy City, here's a long compilation of WLS news promos from the 1970s: I believe these are all the work of famed Chicago commercial director Joel Sedelmeier.
16. From France, a historical compilation of TF1's news opens from the psychedelic '70s onwards: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGevbdpELbg
17. A 1980 promotional video for CNN:
18. Among NewsActive3's uploads is WMAQ's first newscast from the NBC Tower back in 1989. (A tour of the new facilities begins at the 7-minute mark.)
19. KTVK, Phoenix; 10 p.m., 1994, just months before the station lost its ABC affiliation (starts at 2:40). Highlights include a report by Daryn Kagan, later a high-profile CNN anchor:
20. And we now also have part 2 of the 1970s compilation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdX-T33yNSQ
21. A compilation of 1970s news opens from around the world (Part 1): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IeGlGrwrTm4
22. A compilation of news intros used by ORF in Austria from 1957 to the present day (Note that one of the themes is Dignity by Network Music / Killer Tracks): And a 1980s ORF news open that's missing from the compilation above:
23. WTLV, Jacksonville, 6 p.m., 1972 -- note the preponderance of serious stories about civic affairs in place of today's random shootings, fires, and accidents:
24. Indeed. Both the "1" and the "Action News" font in those 1981 were different from the design used before and since. (And it even then, it was used inconsistently. The "12" in the lower-thirds is the traditional design.) Here are two clips of KPNX -- or KTAR as it was known at the time -- from 1978:
25. KPNX, 10 p.m. news, 1982 (now with Hello News): KPNX, news promo, 1981: KPNX, news promo, 1985 (a full minute of "We're going where you're going"): KPNX, news promo, 1981: KPNX, news promo, 1981 (w/ Tom Brokaw): KPNX, news promo, 1984 (also w/ Tom Brokaw): More brand-new KPNX clip on Lottoman17's channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/Lottoman17/videos
