Am I alone in thinking that he may return to Phoenix -- perhaps even KTVK, where he anchored between 1986 and 1995?

This theme is based on "Jupiter: The Bringer of Jollity" from "The Planets" by Gustav Holst:

In memory of former Chicago Mayor Jane Byrne, who died on Friday, here's WLS's 10 p.m. news from 1983:

Here's an interesting compilation of news opens used by Germany's ZDF from 1963 to the present:

They were upset that some people may have thought they forced out two employees, so what do they do? They force out an employee!

Here's none other than Walter Cronkite guest-anchoring the national news on France's Antenne 2 network in 1981 (on location in Monte Carlo that evening):

A few KTVK news bumpers from 1986 as seen in a newly uploaded compilation of local commercials: Too bad this material is from September 1986 and not earlier, because so little is still known about KTVK's pre-1986 Eyewitness News era.

It depends on the country. In Europe, some countries use degreed meteorologists (even for local news in some cases), while others do not. In a few countriess, degreed meteorologists are used by public broadcasters, while their commercial counterparts prefer "eye candy." Heck, in Italy, weather forecasts are routinely presented by Air Force meteorologists -- in uniform:

I really like the "circular" news open used by HTV in the mid-'80s: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mgStdPgl6m8

Some really interesting CNN clips from the early '90s just uploaded by user fox1 at tvforum.co.uk: The end of Morning News and the beginning of World Day: Daybreak Saturday: Earlybird News: Business Day:

A bit of CNN as seen in Japan back in 1984 -- it's a mix of CNN from the U.S. (this was before CNN International was launched) and Japanese-language, CNN-branded segments from Tokyo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33Ptglbft9o

We've been talking about KTVK a lot recently because the station is on the cusp of significant change. Well, I stumbled upon the station's website from 1997 -- just a bit over two years into the post-ABC era -- on Internet Archive, and I thought it might be interesting: http://web.archive.org/web/19970625135558/http://www.azfamily.com/ Here's a list of media properties owned or operated by MAC America at the time: http://web.archive.org/web/19970625125707/http://www.azfamily.com/album/ And here are KTVK's anchor/reporter bios: http://web.archive.org/web/19970625132354/http://www.azfamily.com/album/3tv/index.html

A stellar lineup indeed, Raymie! The first-ever edition of BBC's Breakfast Time in 1983 included clips and well-wishes from other morning shows around the world -- Good Morning Australia (Ten), Canada AM (CTV), CBS This Morning, Good Morning America (ABC), Good Morning Hong Kong (TVB), and the morning show on Japan's NHK: And Jane Pauley makes an appearance in person!

Another KTVK clip: Here's a 1991 report by Daryn Kagan, who later went on to become high-profile anchor at CNN (the clip includes a bumper):

Here's an 1991 extended promo (sales presentation?) for Canada's CBC Newsworld. Note how geographically dispersed their operations were at the time:

Double post. Sorry!

Hmm. I wonder if that clip is from KTVK's morning news (some two years before the launch of Good Morning Arizona). Jana Wallis, the anchor seen here, went on to co-anchor KTVK's weekend news, while Mike Moore, seen seated at the anchor desk, eventually served as Good Morning Arizona's first news anchor (Jodi Applegate was the host). This clip from 1993 is also interesting: It features Jodi Applegate and Royal Norman hosting a show called Arizona's Family Saturday. The program looks and feels a lot like Good Morning Arizona, which premiered the following year. Could it be that, when it lost its ABC affiliation, KTVK essentially expanded the format of Arizona's Family Saturday to weekdays?

So I'm not the only one who had that thought! That KPHO ad is a really interesting find. BTW, the switch of the late news from 10 p.m. to 9:30 must have happened in the late 1970s, because the ad below is from 1979: -
From KTVK in Phoenix, here's the open to the Saturday edition of Good Morning Arizona on the day before Super Bowl XXX in 1996 (from a demo reel that includes other bits and pieces from KTVK): (If you're not taken there automatically, go to the 2:48 mark.) And from the same YouTube channel, here are two KTVK sports segments in their entirety (showing subtle changes to the station's long-running rainbow graphics): 1987: 1993:

Thames Television; the weekday ITV station for London, UK; 1977:

From 1986, here's the evening news from ORF in Austria, with extensive coverage of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, which despite Soviet media silence, was beginning to send its radioactivity across Europe:

And from the same year, here's the 6 P.M. news from KTSP in Phoenix -- featuring Bill Close, who was nearing retirement at the time:

From Dontryl Alexander's account (this may be a re-upload, but I'm not sure): KTVK, Phoenix; 10 P.M. montage, 1988: KTVK, Phoenix, 6 P.M. close, 1988:
