  1. Great find - funny it was being mocked back then as elevator music. But now that we know yeah those horns are signature Gari, and probably his collaborator at the time Danny Baker.
  2. I've read old newspaper articles about it. Pretty much 3rd place except for a brief year or so around 1985, another blip around 1988, and then became a real #1/#2 in the market around 1995 when NBC went on a streak, they cleaned up the presentation, and Pete Wilson / Pam Moore were the leads.
  3. Just dawned on me the last notes of the News Series signature represent 'Sevens on the move.'
  4. KPIX, KGO, KRON 1987 clips No opens / closes, but there is the bumper music for KPIX from version 2 of Signature (the 1985 package refresh rarely heard online) at 32:17
  5. KICU 1988 promo They're using the '86 cut of the KPRC news open for a station ID. The 'Ten O'Clock News' used the KPRC theme from around 83/84 - 1990.
  6. KSBW 1993 open Also has a 40th anniversary commercial at the beginning They started using Brave New World around 1990 or 91, when they rolled out a new set and refreshed the purple TVBD 1987 era graphics The bones of this set stayed around for over 25 years
  7. KCRA 1985 promo With a cut of a 'Where the news comes first' theme bumper
  8. Cool - didn't realize WOWT was a sister station with KRON (just remembered KAKE). They kept that theme / open longer than KRON. The theme lasted mid 87 - fall 89 at KRON, and the open just from mid 87 to fall of 88.
  9. KCRA 1985 noon preshow bumper The great Mike Boyd and a young Sydnie Kohara (who went on to many years hosting the morning news for KGO and later KPIX) Plus that instant classic authoritative Channel 3 Reports music bed
  10. KRON Midday preshow / open 2/1984 The set would be retired a few months later for a more barebones all blue 'make the talent pop' Frank Magid playbook call. The intro would go 3D about a year later. Lloyd launched the early morning Daybreak newscast in 1986, then was let go in late 1992. He's retired in Pensacola, FL these days - hosted things on the PBS station there several years back.
  11. Great one - has anyone tried reaching out to Dan Dean about his early KOMO work?
  12. WUSA / KARE 11 News Sunrise Nov 1, 1985 And here's a fun find - clips from KARE 11 Sunrise in 1990 - where they're using a smaller scale version of the national Today show living room set
  13. Ah BayTV - not much on Youtube from those days. Enjoyed the Gary Radnich simulcast and evening show. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GAiiMSEnRPs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PmEpSvRd5qU
  14. KRON 1984 NewsCenter 4 talent promo with Let's All Be There bed I'm going to guess this was summer of '84 just before Jim Paymar got promoted https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3yq-9COu9m4
  15. Don't see it on the EWN 50 Years page, but right now in New York taxicabs that have the Eyewitness News feed they're playing this 1991 promo uncut, full audio
  16. WXYZ had its 70th last month and did a 20 minute long retrospective... https://www.wxyz.com/70years?_ga=2.43389413.1714320122.1542677006-1060012468.1542677006
  17. Great open - no VO, extra dramatic edit of the theme, and straight to Bill Bonds on the flourish of the horn.
  18. 50 Years of Eyewitness News this weekend Package https://abc7ny.com/4702761/?fbclid=IwAR2UyZ-CN6sRoK-tTnHublU2L9k4YtP3sv2G4IZAtfcGdxQh9S74zuBh-Og Old clips https://abc7ny.com/eyewitnessnews50/
  19. Probably not - the lower thirds look different. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=C95tjbKpe7o;list=PLEFB4715F0A1A80DE Looks like the 1990 KXTV update was the logo / graphics / music, and repainting the 1989 set Then by '91 they had a new set and music And by '92 yet another logo, set, and music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=NdDKyMPTeyE;t=36 Meanwhile KOVR went through two more looks in a year... Back to a more traditional open and Earwitness News music in mid 1989 Then the NonStop theme and new logo / graphics by October (same set, but that would soon be replaced by one with venetian blinds over the cityscape) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=DM6SoCMyeeQ;list=PLEFB4715F0A1A80DE
  20. And don't forget Channel 3 (yes we've seen this open before - but it's a classic). That KXTV set is different from the one from the 1989 earthquake footage (and they changed up everything again in 1990 with the new station logo). What a revolving door of image for KXTV and KOVR. When you're up against reporters like Mike Boyd on the street there's really not much chance for them.
  21. Don't think I've seen a non NBC station use that NBC style of Helvetica in its Chyrons (the slightly expanded letters that were used on just about everything that originated in Burbank or NY for a while). I'm guessing it wasn't unique to NBC - they just used it a lot - from KNBC to Scrabble to NBC News to Late Night.
  22. CBS ticker and lower third, plus ABC News globe animation. Fun combo.
  23. Great find without the call letters in the Youtube title. First time pretty much all of the closing music has been found in the clear. That lasted I think from around 1980 until just a few months after this clip. They updated the music a touch when they introduced a new set later in the year - but that music update only lasted about a year and a half before Kevin O'Brien the legendary GM came on board and commissioned the classic 1987 theme and 3D SF Bay open. Someone get this to NMSA in case it's taken down.
  24. Great find. I think that music package dates to around 1992 - the lower third graphics are also from around then (they borrowed from the early 90s NBC News lower thirds). Liked how they'd sometimes key the feed from LiveCamera 3 behind the anchors for the two-shot. One thing a little off about that set - the 'CHANNEL 3 REPORTS' lettering above the anchors never matched lettering they used for the masthead on air.
