  1. Horrible quality - it's a DX pickup of KCRA from someone in Vancouver. But this is the brief 1989 close to what I think is a 5pm newscast. KCRA didn't run credits or closing music...they'd play a bumper into the copyright chyron. This bumper was around from around 1988 - 90 or so.
  2. While we're on KMGH...here's that Newsmat set and graphics still in use in 1989 Also you get to hear one of the synthesized Great News cuts. For some reason, most of those didn't make it into the package set that's been floating around the trading circuit. Guess Gari kept it out of the package when they released the later series. Also here's the open from that era / another one of those missing cuts. The vamp is without a voiceover.
  3. Great looking set. Also near the end, the first bulletin of news about the crash of Delta 191 - about 15 minutes after it happened.
  4. Cool to see they had the separate studio and newsroom set going, and changed up the studio set elements for each broadcast. And wow - Lester and Adele...
  5. WCBS August 1984 5pm - great wide shot of the dual sets at the end when they throw to the 6pm. I think this one gets an award for a set that maximizes a small space. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5F8sJu-lqA
  6. Also in that same video... Promo for Channel 7 News (while the newscasts were still using 'News Scene' branding). Guess the changeover happened shortly thereafter. Lots of competition from a surging KPIX those days. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=Z6H_pmncoAY;m=1;s=48
  7. KGO NewsScene Tonight open 11/1981 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=Z6H_pmncoAY;m=6;s=22 KGO NewsScene 6pm open 11/1981 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=Z6H_pmncoAY;t=34 Look closely and you can see the circle 7 painted on the studio floor.
  8. KGO January 28, 1986 - Challenger coverage newscast with Van Amburg. He's one of a kind, great anchor, though takes a little liberty with speculation at times here trying to take on a complex national story. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=6gwnt3cBhRo;t=487
  9. KPIX 10/18/89 - Emmy winning newscast day after earthquake - broadcast from newsroom https://diva.sfsu.edu/collections/sfbatv/bundles/231159
  10. Take a look at around 3:30 in - looks like they did produce one for Patti. I’m thinking the MO was cold open then talent at the first break. That Linda Alvarez one ends with her saying “coming up next...” so it might be mislabeled as an open when it was instead used for the first break.
  11. "Many thanks to WBZ-TV Creative Services Director Peter Masucci who dreamed up the idea; to Promotions guru Sean Barnacoat who produced it; to photographer Sean Collins who shot every scene; and to editor Michael Ruzicka who spent hours bringing this together." Make sure you add comments in the bottom of the article to express appreciation. Amazed the archives even still exist, let alone they spend months producing it. My favorite detail is how they managed to get a sales guy who looks just like the old fisherman.
  12. KGO Nov 2002 Last days of Ahern's WLS style set which lasted a good 4 years or so. They went to this set next that lasted in some form until 2016 - had a nice rear projection skyline view. That got nixed for a live feed a few years later.
  13. Gari would have to come out of retirement given he sold the business to Warner. Still sounds fresh but then I still think his work on the Cool Hand Luke theme sounds fresh.
  14. Going with 'international broadcast *centre*" instead of "center"!
  15. Keeping the KDKA theme going...here's a full KD&You promo from 1985 Looks like Arthur Greenwald was the creative services lead who can probably fill in some of the gaps about packages then - he probably commissioned it. On his own YouTube (comments in the below video) he says he has some additional KDKA video he'll digitize at some point https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=Cem3axUjAtI;list=UUtx-ZQ5lTazLSj3478FnVoQ
  16. Anyone ever figure out the story / origin of the WMAQ early 80s theme that sounds like a cousin to the WNBC theme?
  17. I'm sure Ed Peters and his colleagues are very talented, but those station lists aren't exactly filled to the brim with longtime market leaders. Here's a demo reel from the site: https://nebula.wsimg.com/527ea4c42051bc1c7b87af5770ade007?AccessKeyId=66DF0260B5371BCE06BB&disposition=0&alloworigin=1
  18. Probably. I think KD got mixed up with News image because, well try humming the words 'KD and You'. Almost the same four notes as the News Image signature. So looks like Sutton did the KD work...now to track down version 1 (pre 1985 or so) and version 2 (with the jazzy sax versions) - a great package.
  19. And a glimpse of KBTV 'Sundown!' - the 6:30pm newscast. Looks like it had a cool special set.
  20. KUSA Feb 1986 partial newscast - that '9 Country' theme is one of the more under rated ones. And gotta love that toss to a live interview at 5:45 in the first clip. Great use of the screens and nice depth in that 2 shot.
  21. Newsmat in all its glory - inspired by the clip above - KMGH 1986 6pm full broadcast
  22. Actually it was the first set at 855 Battery! Lasted about 4 years.
  23. As long as we're down that path, here's the image music the theme is based on (dates to the late 80s) And a longer version of the news open - one of the underrated themes in Norcal from the 80s (this one, KNTV, KCRA among them) Plus, here's a KICU ID that's basically the KPRC 80s news open almost in the clear - from 1988 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=afeJJOk__KM;t=26
  24. In the early 2000s I was in possession of a CD with many of the tracks from this great KNTV package. Was doing a project for work and reached out to the composer from Silvertree about licensing it for internal use. He sent along the demo CD of the package along with a price that included the license fee for Dionne - which wasn't off the reservation. Had that jazzy early 90s nightime version of it along with the full 1987 close and the full 1991 close for the early evening newscasts. Was missing some of the bumpers from the original 1987 package though. Unfortunately, returned it per his instructions after we went a different direction on the project and he has since passed away. So no idea where it might be archived anymore.
  25. Pretty much what it is - except it's not taped up in Connecticut. That Central Park shot is gorgeous though. Nice job with the set.
