Yes it probably is production music. Was just used when that 10pm newscast first debuted (it used to be 11pm). Not sure it lasted more than a year. That set though...I think that went on for a good 8 or 10 years.

So here's the deal with KCRA themes... In that clip the pre-show teaser music dates from about 1983/84. There was an open that used it as a basis, and a number of bumper cues. Around 1986 a more majestic set of opens were composed, but the other cues remained. See here in 1985 the original open See here in 1987 the pre-show, 1986 open, and bumpers Then, in 1988 a jazzier package of bumpers was created (seen in the open and close of the 1990 clip) that remained in use until mid 1990 or so, but the 1983/84 pre-show music remained. Then that 1990-92 package came about, when they went to '24 hour news,' but I think the 1983 pre-show stayed in place. Finally in 1992 for the early prime shift the package was completely reworked. It was a great set of cues those 9 years or so...wish they turned up somewhere. In my top 5 of best packages.

That's video of a stealth bomber, and that wasn't flown until the late 80s.

And more Bay Area clips from a former KRON photographer's account 6pm open 1982 Live at 5 open 1984 Live at 5 close 1984 Note the irony of a 'portions pre-recorded' disclosure at the end of a 'Live' at 5 newscast...

And here's the abbreviated newscast from 1990 that features that KCRA intro and open. Also get a taste of their jazzy bumper music from the late 80s / early 90s

Hey - anyone remember which Newsactive 3 reel has the early 80s (I think about '84) KOA Denver open... There's one here. The one I'm looking for has same music, but the talent graphics portion is more over the top.

KPIX Eyewitness News 1982 - story profiling their rise to #1 in the market, some great interviews with the anchors and managers. This team stayed together for another 7 years or so. Some good clips of their opener too. Now their rise to #1 also coincided with the rise of the 49ers, which aired on CBS...but no mention of that. http://www.youtube.c...41&feature=plcp

KCRA 1986 11PM Open and clip Poor sound quality but you get the gist. Basically in 1986 they launched this set and added less urgent, more symphonic opening music, but the opening graphics were in an interim state before a full 3D package later in the year. And in this clip you get a voiceover promo with part of their 80s package in the background

KCRA mid-80s open and small clips of newscast from December 1985. I think their more elaborate 3D open debuted the following year. This music/open probably dates from '83 or '84.

Full KRON NewsCenter 4 Update from January 1986 in three part. Bay Area people will recognize a still making his mark with shameless self promotion Gary Radnich. And at the very end, a tease for the arrival of Sylvia Chase as the new coanchor. I actually ran into Emerald Yeh from this clip on a flight from SF-NY a couple weeks ago and she hasn't aged much in the last 25 years. She boarded at the very end. Went back to say hi after I finsished brunch but she was fast asleep. http://www.youtube.com/user/80sCommercialVault#p/u/3/JK0dozqRhgQ
