I'm siding with y'all, seems like a last ditch effort to get The View back from the brink. I think Nicolle Wallace and Rosie Perez found their footing by the end of their run and really fit well with Raven, Michelle and Whoopi (it would have been a great panel had they all continued into the new tv season together) but unfortunately for them ABC News has other plans. I think Nicolle would have been a great asset this season, with all the political issues from both domestic and international going about, it's a real pity -- just check out The View's social media and see how much support she has had from both liberals and conservatives. It was nice to see someone who wasn't a comedian or in showbiz, she just seemed more relatable to the regular viewer. Bad call from out-of-touch tv execs. I would say that the new cast will most likely be a joy to watch though. Glad Joy is back, she should have never left. Candace seems to be feeling the void left by Elisabeth, the conservative Christian; which will probably bring back the Evangelical audience and the religious perspective that the show has been lacking and vitally needed. I would say that Candace will most likely not be as political as people may think, unless she plans to study talking points more closely and do research ahead of time, she had difficulty articulating which Republican candidates she'd vote for and doubt she wants to be known as a Fox News wannabe. Paula I'm curious about, cause she hasn't done anything interesting when she has guest hosted on The View, but with her prior sports anchoring experiences and journalistic expertise, she'll hopefully make the show more rounded since she's also a mother and she has brought her own Christian experiences to the table too. A couple articles I've read makes me ponder where the fate of the show will land. According to the Daily Mail, Whoopi was left in the dark about Joy's return and that a feud might be boiling between the two. In her contract which ends this season, Whoopi contractually works Mon.-Thurs. and has strongly decided she will not work Fridays. ABC News has assigned Joy as the head host on Fridays. The interesting tidbit from the Daily Mail was that ABC has been testing a replacement show with two males hosts and to females. And according to Radar, Rosie O'Donnell is planning to appear again on the show...so perhaps this might be Whoopi's last season if the show survives since I doubt she would want to work with her again. I do remember Rosie said on-air that she'll leave the door open to come back, so perhaps third times a charm? haha Overall, seems like the revamp would work on paper, but I find it really disjointed with the unknown factors of Candace and Paula mixed in, with Whoopi wanting out, and ambiguity of how effective the part-time contributors will come about -- I'm just very skeptical about the execution. They needed stability and would have preferred Nicolle and Rosie Perez continuing. Will be interesting to see how this one will turnout by Spring.

Matt seems to be well liked inside NBC News, this is probably one of the reasons why they halted the planned reboot last year -- he was strongly against it and the right people listened to his wishes (it pays to have friends in the right places). I feel like you're right about NBC News, they are in the midst of rebooting MSNBC right now and I doubt that are actually thinking about replacing Matt on the Today show, which isn't doing that bad anyways. They probably believe that they have some momentum to fully overtake GMA, which is debatable. I'm not really a fan the current state of GMA (which has become a QVC, MTV's TRL, Inside Edition and Entertainment Tonight all-in-one) but I still marvel how they are still on top, I think there's a perceived notion that GMA's cast has better chemistry than Today's. Personally, I don't think Matt ever fully recovered from the awkward Ann Curry incident, which pretty much hurt his public persona, there needs to a an eventual shake-up, but it's not happening anytime soon.

We stay classy down here in San Diego. haha It seems like SD6 and KUSI are competing to see who can have the oldest set, I've surrendered that I'll probably never see a new set from either station in my lifetime.
-
I'd prefer Willie as the heir, he's quite likable has the right personalty to bring a much needed freshness to the show.
-
I guess they are going for a vintage look perhaps? Their new promos have shown close-ups of one of their rotten mic flags, as if they were proud to show that their equipment has weathered the Southern California drought, how versatile they are!
-
A new package would have been nice or at least some sort of refresh perhaps; their CNN-esqued L3 always looked too busy for me.
-
What's up with their graphic department? They used an old cast photo for Right This Minute:rolleyes: (two of their original on-air talent left within the past year), it's rather cringeworthy for the lack of attention to detail. You just need 10 seconds to do a simple online research to find out who is currently on the show.

I'm guessing they're looking for a different vibe. Interesting that Dan and Cristin are leaving, they've been really great assets to the station since they came to SD. I could totally see either Anne or Ariel doing the Live Center. I wonder if they already have a plan to hire someone to replace Cristin or promote someone from within.

Looks like Anne State will be co-hosting The Now, she'll be joined by The List correspondent Ariel Wesler. And they've hired another additional reporter, Jessica Chen from Time Warner Cable News in NYC. So many hirings going on at that station.

Do you think The Now will premiere next month? I have yet to see anything about the program, 10-4 San Diego was promoted quite heavily for at least the last month before they lost Oprah. Perhaps they will premiere the show quietly without much pep and treat it as a simple 4pm newscast with just the mandatory inclusion of The Now branding to please E.W. Scripps. The station has always been slow with updating their branding, it's been bothering me for the last couple years since they moved onto their new set that they still have the old ABC glossy logo on front of their main desk television panel -- is it quite a bother to have that changed to the new version? I'd volunteer for free to come in and intern to help them out with that. (this coming from a recent college grad who wants to start his big boy job somewhere ) Other than their Facebook and Instagram usernames, are they starting to refer to themselves as ABC 10 News elsewhere?

Renee Nelson will be the morning Live Center anchor: Anne State could fit as an anchor for The Now, she knows the San Diego scene well and could articulately host the hour; if so, I wonder if they plan to pair her up.
-
Oh that's unfortunate, I didn't realized she left. I would agree with you then that the position will most likely be catering to both areas most likely. As for The Now, it would make the most logical sense if they paired Dan Haggerty and Itica Milanes since they are already there anyways for the evening newscasts, I guess we'll see what happens. I just hope that it's more innovative than just recapping investigative stories though. As for KGTV as a whole, I feel like they are in a better place compared to the last few years of the McGraw Hill ownership (cutbacks, top talent leaving, on-air protests from the union, 10-4 San Diego, etc.).

The Live Center has been part of 10News for the past couple of seasons. I feel like KGTV copied the Live Center idea from KNSD NBC 7 down here. Last year, the station rotated some of their morning talent to different positions: like their traffic reporter (Melissa Mecija) became an evening investigative reporter and their morning Live Center anchor (Natahsha Zouves) became the official morning traffic reporter and has multitasked both positions since. Dan Haggerty has been the evening Live Center anchor and I would also say that he could be a nice fit for a co-anchor position for The Now IMHO since he's already aquatinted with hosting from the newsroom during the Live Center segments.

I was looking at job postings locally and found that KGTV ABC10 San Diego is looking for an anchor for the local version of The Now: They are also looking to expand their morning cast with a Live Center anchor position as well. I wonder when The Now will premiere, I don't remembering hearing or seeing any promos about it, same thing can be said about the new syndicated talkshow program that they picked up, Tyra's FabLife show that will air at 2pm here in San Diego come September 14. I've seen promos saying that Inside Edition will be moving to KFMB (CBS 8) this fall. So San Diego will now have 4 newscasts competing against each other at 4pm. Will be interesting to see what the KGTV version of The Now will look like and how it will they differentiate themselves from the rest. I would prefer a hard-news and relevant topics angle (something like CBS This Morning) without the use of Kardashians, puppy videos and the latest diet trends to fill up most of the hour. If any of you follow local news down here in this classy city, Channel 10 developed and aired "10-4: San Diego" back in May of 2006 when they lost Oprah to KFMB's CBS 8, that talkshow hybrid was pretty fluffy and was canned that same summer just before the 2006-2007 television was about to start and they stuck to just a simple, regular newscast for the rest of that season before going to a two-hour gameshow block the season after that. I hope that history won't repeat itself and they have learned their lesson.

Oh yes, I've enjoyed Cristela Alonzo's appearances as well, she excels in this format that's for sure. I've been tracking her on Twitter since the cancellation of her sitcom on Friday and she has repeatedly told her fans that would not be interested in co-hosting for the show, so it seems like she has decided to pursue other opportunities or has been told the direction of where The View is heading.

Recap of the soap opera drama called The View as well inside information about that Katie Couric-Matt Lauer daytime show that was in the works, presented by Vanity Fair: The View's Epic Fight for Survival If there's truth to these accounts, it amazes me how disorganized the show has gotten behind-the-scenes. From various ABC execs to the multiple transitions of producers, there seems to have been too many cooks in kitchen, which it all comes down to egos not wanting to collaborate together. I've seen some episodes of this show within the past season and I do feel like the show has slowly gotten its groove back. There was so much unneeded tension between O'Donnell and the other panel hosts, especially between Whoopi and O'Donnell. Whoever thought having both of those people together should have been fired. I did like O'Donnell though, there was magic at times when she was passionate about a particular segment or subject, but unfortunately she was shaky and unreliable during the rest of the time. O'Donnell's exit improved the show I would say, as Whoopi has reclaimed captain of the ship. I do believe that both Wallace and Perez also found their voices on the show, it did take some time, but both seem more comfortable with live television. As for who should join them? My favorite has been Michelle Collins, she has the wit and charm, which has been missing on the show; the same thing could be said about Stacy London. I also think Paula Farris of ABC News could help bring more balance to the show, as she has brought her Christian experiences to the table, she might be able to bring Middle America back to the show after so many of them have said they left since Hasselbeck's exit. I also do like ESPN's Samantha Ponder as well, if they are interested in getting back the younger demographic. Raven seems to be a popular candidate though. I wouldn't mind if they tried out S.E. Copp, Sunny Hostin or Sage Steele again from last year's try outs, but it seems like those bridges were burned from their chemistry tests that they had with Whoopi and O'Donnell.
-
Yeah, Palmer, T.J. Holmes and Rob Marciano fit perfectly when they appear on the show, they both help balance the chemistry between the main anchors when Strahan is unable to be there.
-
Yeah it does seem like a very delicate situation, but the promos are making it sound like Kimi will be the permanent weather anchor for the morning show. This situation feels somewhat similar to the one KGTV was in a few years ago on their morning show. Carol Sullivan was just newly installed as the news anchor when she went into maternity leave a few months later, they then installed Kaushal Patel as her replacement for Midday and her substitute for the morning show as Carol was also on maternity leave, a few months latter it seemed like they started running promos that highlighted Kaushal as their morning co-anchor (My memory is foggy, but I don't think they actually announced that Carol left the station). In less than five years, It seemed like KGTV went through 4 co-anchors. With the whole union debacle factored into the equation, that station was under turbulent times till Scripps came in.

Having "Mike & Mike" on the second floor should make things interesting at Times Square Studios, I do miss seeing the views from that floor and I preferred seeing GMA having more space when they rented out that space back in the 2000s (using their second floor for hard-news and interviews and the first floor for more recreational activities and lifestyle segments). These days with it's limited space, GMA looks like a topsy-turvy party, but the show works I guess. Looks like we'll be seeing more ESPN on ABC, having "Mike & Mike" appear occasionally/normally on GMA should help bring much needed testosterone on the show. Speaking of ESPN, is Tony Reali still a social media correspondent for GMA? I no longer watch GMA on a regular basis, but whenever I scan the program during the second hour, I no longer see him. I tried looking for clues on social media, but other than his header photo on Twitter, there's no clear indication he is on GMA. Did he disappear or are his appearances scaled back now? I do feel like Jesse Palmer has taken his place as an on-air talent as he has now appears with the anchors on a frequent basis, but it doesn't feel like they made his position official.

Yeah, Ben has been doing the "Headlines from Around the Globe" section the last couple days. He's doing a nice job, but I'm wondering if they are trying something new?
-
Question, so Jeff and Vanita are filing in for Charlie and Gayle the last couple days. They usually have the three main anchors sharing headline duties, right? So why do they have a fourth person, in this case Ben Tracy, doing the headlines the past few days? Has this been a normal occurrence lately?
