  1. Yikes, I can't see David Wright returning to ABC. Those were damaging comments, you don't bite from the hand that feeds you, even if it's coming from a Mouse feeding you cheese. Sorry, but if you want to stick with hardcore citizen journalism and truly make a difference, make your own YouTube channel and podcast. The current media landscape is all about synergy, you drink the Kool-Ade that they give you, if you don't like it and don't want to share airtime with The Bachelor and shopping deals and steals, it's time to move on. At the same time, off the record comments from those in the journalism community should be kept to a minimum in this day and age, you will be recorded for juicy soundbites. You're a journalist, don't talk about your personal life and ideologies.
  2. Seriously, they already have Time Square Studios when they do presidential election coverage, I feel like that's a better location anyways.
  3. DANG! The Cancellation Bear gets cancelled. A unlikely victim of the Tribune acquisition, TV By the Numbers: https://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/more-tv-news/the-end/ So unfortunate, but I guess Marc Berman will be my go-to for morning after primetime ratings releases for now on.
  4. All in all, happy for Wallace. Well deserved!
  5. Glad the Tribune stations could keep their current graphics. If anything, I wouldn't mind if other Scripps stations adopted the WPIX graphics, it's a more superior product. I feel bad for the rest of the Scripps stations, those new graphics are just hideous. Sucks for the NBC affiliates, they could have rebranded into something exciting for the Olympics and unfortunately all they get is a very mediocre rebrand. What a joke.
  6. Sad to see her go, she was part of the most-versed and well-rounded panel that The View has ever had. This team has been firing on all cylinders and it has made for lively debates and conversation, you can really tell that they know what they were talking about and knew how to naturally be themselves, you can tell that they weren't simply rephrasing talking points spoonfed by producers. On Monday, she seemed to have kept the idea or returning open, so I wouldn't be surprised if she comes back after her father's campaign ends in June. As for all the rumors coming from Page Six, I feel like The View tends to get more publicity from inner conflicts just because the public likes to see a good catfight when it's between women. All workplaces and shows have conflict, it's the nature of the business, but you hardly hear anything coming from an all-guys team on The NFL Today or Fox NFL Sunday, it's a double standard unfortunately.
  7. Not a fan of the bubble. Seriously, in addition to these blue-white minimalist tones, it seems like they are mocking up a "Facebook" graphics theme. All they need are the hearts, thumbs ups and emojis to pop up on the screen.
  8. He is great on $100,000 Pyramid I must say. But I do agree with y'all, I still find it odd that they passed up on other qualified ABC News anchors for Michael. Disney loves Strahan and they possibly feel like he brings the "it" factor, but I've always speculated that adding a more masculine personality (Strahan, Josh Elliott, Jesse Palmer, and even Tony Reali) was always a band-aid to counter Stephanopoulos' stiffness during lighter, fluffier flare. I do wonder what GMA's longterm plans are. Will GMA3 still be in the cards? Roberts and Stephanopoulos aren't exactly ancient and the audience seems to like this team for the most part, unless ratings slide or the competition gets fierce, I can see this team staying for another 5-10 years tops.
  9. I'm surprised they kept the bug white, the logo and time/temp gets easily hidden when the video or picture playing behind it is also white...kinda defeats the purpose of having a bug. Too much slow animation happening on the L3's, they're trying to grab the viewer's attention but it just feels like the movement is lagging. Dang, Scripps should have gotten TVNewsTalk's community to be their focus group, we can certainly come up with something better than this.
  10. Those graphics were alright even though they were pretty much copying CNN's at the time; they were certainly an upgrade to the Hothaus design that McGraw-Hill stations had when they standardized, those were ugly.
  11. Too much blue I say, looks like if TEGNA and NBC O&O graphics screwed around and made a baby, this is what the baby would look like. A little bland and boring, but I guess this is what standardization looks like. Maybe the transitions, sound effects and music will make up for it....or maybe not.
  12. I surely do miss the Jennings era when they actually had WORLD NEWS for the majority of the newscast. Unfortunately overall news distribution has degraded to viral video analysis, online shopping discount notifications, and too much fluff pieces. At this point, they might as well call it GMA: After Dark.
  13. I'm curious to know where here career will take her and if she plans leave the industry. After the blackface incident, she is now damaged goods, I think she knows she has burned bridges and no mainstream media organization will take her. Logically, her place will be back at a conservative media organization like Fox News, Pat Robertson's CBN or maybe even that new Viacom/Pluto TV channel called First.
  14. Fair question, it shouldn't matter. The only people that would be concerned are the NBC affiliates that air her show, but aren't they contracted to air her show regardless of content? If that is real and she does get the interview, it will be a big get. It will certainly help her and the show. Until today's social media post, Lauer has been on stealth mode, it would be good to get his side of the story.
  15. The 11pm news also is back it seems, how many times has it returned in last few years 3 or 4 times now? I'm curious to know what the 4:30 am show is. The more pressing question is where is Aloha Taylor, she's been gone for too long.
  16. I'm somewhat suspicious about what people who worked with Lauer "knew" about him. I feel like a lot of them are not saying what they actually knew and are hiding under this blanket of cluelessness in the public eye in order to keep their career and reputation. There's been open jokes and roasts touting Lauer's womanizing ways before the #MeToo movement when this behavior was sectioned off as okay for white men with power.
  17. GMA has had an easier time celebrating their history compared to the Today show, who have erased the likes of Matt Lauer and Ann Curry from their memory. I remember during their 40th anniversary when they invited all their on-air talent back, GMA even brought back Kevin Newman, Lisa McRee and even Josh Elliott came back, seems like there's no bad blood . 2000s GMA was pretty much my preferred version of the show, it had the right balance of substance and morning show flare. For me, Time Square Studio's prime location is the 2nd floor and it's unfortunate that they don't take advantage of the Time Square view that often as they did in the early 2000s, I always preferred that they started the first hour upstairs and went down to hangout with the public on the ground level during the 2nd hour. Also, I know it's a budgetary issue, but I always thought it was silly when they moved the weekend edition, 20/20, Nightline and Primetime away from Time Square since the facility is owned by Disney; it's simply aesthetics, but it definitely made the newsmagazines come alive when they were on location, it just simply illuminated the live aspect that you simply don't feel when they are in the Upper West Side in a closed studio. Do you guys think GMA will leave Times Square when construction for the new ABC HQ in Hudson Square is completed?
  18. Is this real life? CNN had a messy debate, Trevor Noah says it best:
  19. Page Six reporting that Keke Palmer is very close to going full-time on "Strahan & Sara".... I'm guessing another title change is underway... https://pagesix.com/2019/07/30/keke-palmer-to-join-strahan-and-sara-as-a-third-co-host/
  20. The guy is selling a book at the end of the day, he needed to share intimate experiences like that to create some watercooler buzz (it worked, we're talking about it). And like I said yesterday, the new CBS News regime is most likely supporting him sharing of his experiences in order to show that change has been made. There was most likely thought placed into going on CNN to do this interview, this wasn't a Star Jones gone rogue situation. I agree. 60 Minutes is still the most prestigious primetime news program in my opinion. The other networks have pretty much given up on theirs, Dateline and 20/20 are pretty much cookie-cutter crime docuseries now and are pretty much a shell their former selves.
  21. Viewer tastes have changed drastically since the Murrow / Cronkite days, it's an unrealistic expectation if people think CBS News will transition back to what they were in the 20th century. We live in different times and both ABC News and NBC News knows that and have been able to cater to a stronger audience and better brand recognition on their programs. R. Kelly and Royals (fluff that you'd see on TMZ or People Magazine) brings in the eyeballs and the money, there's always going to be a place for that. I still think CBS has better content than its competitors just on what they show on Sunday Morning and 60 Minutes alone, it's obvious that they are trying to revitalize their presence on CTM and CBSEN, we'll see if these changes "work" and if they can balance fluff vs. "original reporting".
  22. That's awful if that's the main reason he got the ax on CBSEN. Doesn't his ratings play a big part at the end of the day though? More like sour grapes to me. I can understand if he got an "ok" from the new regime to talk about this, it's pretty much a PR thing to show that there is new blood at CBS.
  23. I've felt that from Norah multiple times on-air, especially when she jabs John or clashes with Gayle. She does get very passioned about particular segments at times too. I enjoy both of them when they come on, they certainly bring something different to the table. Anthony has personality and experience while Tony seems to be a rising star at the news organization as a correspondent. Both tell good stories and both seem to work well with Gayle, this might actually be a good mix.
  24. Just my personal observations on their dialogue between each other based on their diction and tone about the particular segments/packages they comment about at the roundtable, even sometimes during interviews when the anchors try to drive clashing moods or narratives and a hint of bickering goes on. It's not quite obvious, but you get a sense that there's more to what's happening off-air. I don't take notes of these particular occurrences nor do I care to elaborate, just watch and see I'd say for yourself.
  25. Geez, could the interactions between King and O'Donnell on-air get more awkward than it already has been? I've personally felt like there has been subtle clashes happening for some time now between them two and between O'Donnell and Dickerson. With this now out, I'm thinking this could be popcorn viewing and will be entertaining to see what other subtle on-air jabs they will have for each other before the host changes happen, I'm thinking they'll have to act a little more fake between each other til then, it's going to be Ripa and Strahan 2016 all over again. I hope they don't go all pop-news in the future, that would be a major turn-off for me. The article seems to be on the same page as the Daily Mail article from a few weeks back that read that O'Donnell is difficult to work with and that the folks behind CBS Evening News rather work with Glor. I feel bad for Glor, nothing was really wrong with him, it's just the show should have gotten a more extensive retool if it were to compete with ABC and NBC. The show pretty much stayed on the same stream that the Pelly edition was on. Not sure if O'Donnell will draw people in at the helm. I guess this is a wait-and-see situation.
