  1. Lori Stokes leaving Good Day? If RadarOnline, a gossip website, is to be believed, the answer is yes: https://radaronline.com/p/lori-stokes-good-day-new-york-no-longer-co-host-morning-show-rosanna-scotto/ With Dari Alexander out, it seems logical that Lori could slip into the 10pm slot, and maybe the 5pm, although maybe not since she already does 6pm.
  2. It is strange, though, that WNBC has a solo anchor, Adam Kuperstein, at 11am and 5pm. Less strange at 11, but not too common to have a solo anchor at 5pm for an hour long newscast.
  3. There’s a commercial airing with clips from vintage 10pm newscasts, trying to show that the current Fox 5 is similar to the Fox 5 of years ago. Sadly, that’s not the case, and I doubt we’ll see any format changes.
  4. Fox 5 has changed the branding of its evening newscasts. Instead of “Fox 5 News at [Time],” they are calling the newscasts “The [Time] O’Clock News.” This is clearly an homage to the longstanding “The 10 O’Clock News” and somewhat follows the pattern of other newscasts with their own name, like “Good Day New York” and “The Noon.” What do we think? I don’t know if I like dropping the “Fox 5” part from the title.
  5. He has been on the CBS Evening News a few times over the past two weeks (I think from the weather barn in his home). Probably just time off at WCBS for the holidays. I would not read too much into it. Kristine and Maurice have been off for two weeks, too.
  6. She's been gone from WCBS for three or four years at this point. From WCBS, she moved to Fios 1, where she hosted Restaurant Hunter until Fios 1 shut down a year ago.
  7. Nice to see that she was able to secure a position at NBC News and MSNBC. Valerie left WCBS to join NBC to anchor a program on the now-defunct Quibi mobile service. As an aside, per the Washington Post, there is a COVID outbreak at the CBS Broadcast Center, which seems to be centered at WCBS-TV. Of course, most people will remember that there was an outbreak in March, at the beginning of the COVID crisis, at which time KCBS-TV produced WCBS-TV's newscasts for a few days. https://www.washingtonpost.com/media/2020/11/20/cbs-headquarters-reports-15-coronavirus-cases/
  8. Looks like he’s reporting only, at least to start:
  9. Chris and Mary were back together in Studio 46 as of late, but starting on Monday, Mary has been home and Chris is solo in Studio 46 (Elise Finch has been at home since the pandemic started, with her home chromakey). Chris tweeted that Mary traveled out of state last week and is self-quarantining, per New York State guidelines:
  10. WCBS had extensive coverage on Monday. See a story by Lisa Rozner that aired at 5:00, followed by genuine thoughts by Kristine Johnson and Dick Brennan (in for Maurice) here: https://newyork.cbslocal.com/2020/07/20/remembering-nina-kapur/ The same package aired at 6:00 that night, with comments from Dana Tyler thereafter. The video of Dana’s comments appears at the bottom of the story linked above. Lisa Rozner also reported another story yesterday, this one with more details about Nina’s passing, and facts about Revel: https://newyork.cbslocal.com/2020/07/21/revel-scooters-new-york-city-cbs2-nina-kapur-death/amp/?__twitter_impression=true
  11. I agree. This definitely makes the station seem low budget. I also do not like how they’ve been using the secondary CBSN studio for noon and 6 weekdays with Dana Tyler, and for all weekend newscasts. It is unclear whether Dana is permanently at noon, or if Chris and Mary will return at some point. Andrea Grymes has been back from maternity leave for at least a month, if not more, but seems to only be reporting. It is unclear whether she will return to the anchor desk weekend mornings. Also, Cindy Hsu posted on her Facebook page recently that she will be having knee replacement surgery soon, so it will be interesting to see if Andrea returns to replace Cindy while she’s presumably out on medical leave. I also wonder if they’ll bring in a co-anchor.
  12. An amazing accomplishment no matter what the field, but especially in television news, and especially at WCBS, which has historically had a lot of talent turnover. I hope they have a tribute to Dana tonight at 5 or 6. With Dana celebrating her 30th anniversary, Cindy Hsu is celebrating her 27th, also this month. Truly remarkable, given WCBS’s history.
  13. I agree with your take. Also, the real demotion for Muller was when he lost the 10:00 p.m. slot (almost two years ago, I believe) to Kori Chambers. When Muller returned to PIX from ABC, he was the main anchor at 5, 6, and 10:00 p.m. He was eventually replaced by Chambers at 5, but retained the 6 and 10. Then he lost the 10, leaving him with only a half hour at 6. It IS funny to me, though, that he’s anchoring the 4:30-7:00 a.m. slot, since he was the main morning anchor for years, dating back to the launch of the Morning News. Of course, he lost that slot and was replaced by the late Chris Burrous in 2010 and moved to the early morning slot until he left in 2011 and moved on to ABC.
  14. Read more closely. The person asked Craig two questions: if he was taking over the 6:00 p.m. news, and if Kala would be joining him. Craig’s reply, “afraid not,” could mean Kala’s not joining him, but it also might mean that he’s not going to be anchoring at 6:00 p.m. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I haven’t seen anything specifically stating that Craig will be anchoring at 6:00 p.m. We know John Muller is leaving the 6:00 p.m. for the 4:30-7:00 a.m. newscast, and we know Craig is moving to evenings. But we don’t know for sure that Craig will be anchoring. For all we know, he’s going to be reporting.
  15. Joe Toohey has left Fox 5 and is joining WJW in Cleveland as 7:00 p.m. anchor: Welcome to the Fox 8 Family, Joe Toohey! It seems that this is a personal move, as this press release notes that Toohey’s sister is a Cleveland radio personality. His father in law, former ESPN anchor Jay Crawford, is an anchor at WKYC there as well. Toohey has been the anchor of Fox 5’s noon newscast, The Noon, since its launch in September 2019. He had also been the primary anchor of the 6:00 p.m. newscast since Ernie Anastos stopped anchoring in March.
  16. CBS 2 News at Noon is back today, with Dana Tyler anchoring from the CBSN New York studio and Elise Finch with weather from her home. I missed the beginning so I’m not sure if Dana said she was in for Chris and Mary.
  17. This seems like total spin on Fox 5’s part. Ernie hadn’t been on air since before the pandemic, and it’s very likely that his contract was expiring and they elected not to renew it. He’s 76 and was likely paid a big salary to anchor the 6:00 newscast and contribute his “feel good” stories. After 15 years at Fox 5 and over 40 years in NYC, he got a pre-taped package and this odd story about how he’s leaving to take classes at Harvard Business School. Ernie even mentions in his Instagram post today that he plans on developing new TV programming for NYC. But it clearly won’t be for Fox 5. https://www.instagram.com/p/CBeOdlpMVBT/?igshid=1fh88vossygb6 Editing my post to speculate that perhaps a more substantial farewell had been planned but was ultimately unable to proceed because of the pandemic. Regardless, I would have expected a 40+ year career and 15 year tenure at the station would have received more recognition than what Fox 5 did.
  18. Not exactly an official source, but Kerry Drew’s Instagram profile lists that she is the anchor of Good Day Wake Up from 4:30-7:00 a.m. https://instagram.com/kerrydrew?igshid=d2n0zlsz5mx3
  19. Last week, Kerry Drew and Raegan Medgie anchored for the whole week. This week, Drew and Robert Moses anchored Monday, and Drew solo anchored Tuesday and this morning. Solo anchoring for a 2.5 hour newscast seems like a lot for one person to handle.
  20. He tweeted that his first day is September 9th, but that doesn’t mean it will be his first day on air.
  21. https://wccoradio.radio.com/media/audio-channel/matt-brickman-heading-nyc In this interview, Matt Brickman officially confirms that he will be the weekend evening meteorologist at WNBC. I’m not sure this was officially reported anywhere else before now.
  22. Here’s Sukanya’s Facebook post announcing her departure. It sounds like this was her decision, although it’s odd to me that she’s not sticking around at least until tomorrow for Jennifer Lahmers’s last day.
  23. Weird. And John Marshall filled in for Elise a few mornings this past week.
  24. When Jennifer is off, usually Kerry Drew or Robert Moses are the primary fill in anchors.
  25. Jennifer Lahmers, cohost of Good Day Wake Up, with Sukanya Krishnan, since 2017, is leaving Fox 5 for “Extra.”
