1. Jeff Berardelli filled in for Lonnie Quinn last night and again tonight. He also filled in on a weekend evening about a month ago, and has been appearing on CBS This Morning: Saturday. Jeff’s return is a blast from the past, as he was the regular weekend morning meteorologist from 2003 through 2007.
2. CBS 2 seems to have finally moved its bug all the way to the right to fill the 16:9 screen, instead of being in the 4:3 safe zone. This is especially apparent in the attached screenshot from CBS 2 News at 5:00 tonight, where the white bar with “CBSNewYork” cuts off well before the logo begins. When the logo was in the 4:3 safe zone, the white bar ended exactly where the logo begins. I wonder why they did it this way? The package has always been tailored to the 4:3 safe zone, although with many elements out of the safe zone (mostly banners in the L3 to the left of the text). Why not just go for full blown 16:9, or just leave it all 4:3 safe?
3. You’re exactly right. CBSN New York launches today at 1:00 p.m. It appears that Alex Denis will be heavily featured. No word if she leaves morning traffic for this. https://www.instagram.com/p/BrS1-q7nQb6/?utm_source=ig_share_sheet&igshid=mdz31o1vgav6
4. Sports anchor Duke Castiglione is leaving Fox 5 to join WCVB in Boston as weekend news anchor: http://www.adweek.com/tvspy/wnyw-sports-anchor-leaves-for-boston/196612 Castiglione has recently been hosting Sports Xtra on Sunday evenings and is the primary sports anchor for Good Day New York. At WCVB, he joins former Good Day colleague Ben Simmoneau, and replaces former WNYW and WCBS anchor Reid Lamberty.

6. CBS 2 is getting a new set in Septmeber, and will be on a temporary set all summer, according to Chris Wragge: https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=1574505179228527
7. Lou Young announced on Twitter today that he's leaving CBS 2.
8. Antwan Lewis and Teresa Priolo are the new anchors of Good Day Early Call and Good Day Wake Up.
9. John Marshall is doing weather this morning. He implied that he will be on for the next few months, filling in for Vanessa Murdock, who will be handling weekend PMs while Elise Finch is out on maternity leave. John commented that this is his third stint at the station. I guess the first was when he handled weekend mornings between Megan Glaros's departure and Katie Fehlinger's arrival, and then a few years ago when he returned during Vanessa Murdock's maternity leave.
10. There's video of Huddy's farewell in this Mediaite story: http://www.mediaite.com/online/former-fox-news-host-and-roger-ailes-goddaughter-juliet-huddy-leaves-fox-affiliate/
11. Well, it's official. Juliet Huddy is out at Fox 5. Teresa Priolo and Kerry Drew anchored GDWU this morning, and Juliet came on at 6:55 to give a nice goodbye. I am really sorry to see her go, but happy that Fox 5 let her say goodbye on air.
12. Huddy's bio is no longer listed on Fox 5's website: http://www.fox5ny.com/about/personalities
13. I respectfully disagree. I know that the opinion-based Fox 5 News is not for everyone, but I find it to be a nice alternative in the morning. If you want a straight newscast, you can get that on WCBS, WNBC, or WABC. In this case, I think Fox 5's format is a good way to differentiate itself from the competition. I do agree with you, however, that they are better off going outside to find a new early morning team (that is, assuming Juliet Huddy is actually gone). I honestly do not believe that any of the reporters who've been filling in are the permanent solution.
14. I think you are correct. If anyone watched Good Day Wake Up on Thursday morning, Juliet made little throw-away comments during the whole show (and all week, for that matter) that made it pretty obvious to me that it was her last day on the show, even though she did not say anything definitive. The crew also played her favorite music during each tease, which she alluded to in a tweet: She also has made a few comments on Twitter over the past few weeks that seem to indicate that her contract may not be renewed: Again, these tweets are not definitive proof, but I think if you read between the lines, it's very likely that she's gone (or, at the very least, not anchoring GDWU anymore). Juliet was off Friday for vacation, but the fill-in anchors (Antwan and Kerry) did not mention that they were in for Juliet once all morning (again, not definitive proof, but one more piece of circumstantial evidence). If she's really gone, this is a huge loss. GDWU was HER show for 4 years. It hasn't been the same since Ben Simmoneau left in May, but Juliet continued to make it fun and interesting, even with a rotating lineup of fill-in anchors beside her. Plus, if Thursday was her last morning and they didn't let her say goodbye, shame on Fox 5. After 4 years anchoring GDWU, she deserved to at least tell viewers she was leaving. I know this is common in TV, but it's still a slap in the face to viewers, plus Ben got a nice send off when he left after 3 years. Ben and Juliet made an amazing team (one of the best AM teams this market has ever seen, in my opinion). Now the big question is what does Fox 5 do with the show? It's hard to weather the loss of both anchors, especially on such a personality-driven newscast. They didn't seem to be in a big rush to fill Ben's seat, so let's see whether or not they have a plan for GDWU.
15. Sam Ryan was the lead sportscaster at WCBS from around 2007-2009, and then, when she wanted to cut back on her work schedule, she shared weekday duties with Otis Livingston from 2009-2011 until leaving (I believe she anchored three weekdays, and Livingston did two).
16. It seems like Chris Wragge and Mary Calvi both happen to be off today. Alex Denis and Brian Conybeare anchored this morning.
17. Jessica Moore, CBS 2's new weekend evening anchor, debuts today at noon.
18. You are right. Cindy posted on her Facebook page last night that she's leaving weekend evenings for weekend mornings (presumably she'll be re-teamed with Andrea Grymes, with whom she anchored weekend mornings before Diane Macedo replaced Cindy in March 2014). I guess this also confirms that Jessica Moore will be anchoring weekend evenings. Personally, I have mixed feelings about this move. While I prefer Cindy in the morning, this seems like a demotion to me, and she had great chemistry with Elise Finch and Steve Overmyer. On the other hand, the weekend morning newscast is immediately strengthened with Cindy's return. https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=1195648083800608
19. Fox 5 cut its 5:00 p.m. newscast to 30 minutes yesterday in order to once again air The D&A Show at 5:30 p.m.
20. Fox 5 is preempting the news once again, this time tomorrow night at 10:30 for a Rosanna Scotto special with Jennifer Lopez. The same special will also air at 9:30 tomorrow morning, preempting Good Day New York.
21. The New York City / WCVB connection is pretty extensive. Here's a sample: Phil Lipof, the soon-to-be former 5:00 p.m. anchor at WCVB, joined from WABC a few years ago. Erika Tarantal, the current noon anchor at WCVB, joined from WNBC a few years ago. Reid Lamberty, the current weekend anchor at WCVB, previously worked at WCBS and WNYW (where he anchored Good Day Wake Up, the same newscast Ben Simmoneau anchored at Fox 5). Steve Lacy, Fox 5's current 5:00 and 10:00 p.m. anchor, joined Fox 5 from WCVB, where he a weekend anchor. Shiba Russell, formerly a WNBC anchor, came to WNBC from WCVB, where she was a weekend anchor.
22. I don't understand why they would preempt half of the 5:00 p.m. newscast for this show. I'm not going to comment on the content of the program itself, but why not try a show like this on a weekend morning or even preempt half of the 9:00 GDNY hour on a summer Friday to air this? I guess we shouldn't be surprised; after all, this is a station that has regularly preempted the second half of the 10:00 p.m. newscast for "After Empire," and "Friday Night Live." I'm all for trying new things and experimenting, but the decision to preempt the news for this lifestyle/entertainment programming seems to send the message that Fox 5 isn't really serious about the news.
23. I've noticed this, too, and always wondered why Priolo and Drew are the fill ins and not Huddy. Not for anything, but you'd think they would want someone with extensive national experience and a personality filling in on the main show. Maybe it is a personality thing, but it also could be a contractual issue
24. Juliet Huddy tweeted on Friday that Robert Moses, Teresa Priolo, Kerry Drew, and "possibly others for now" will be co-anchoring Good Day Early Call and Wake Up with her in the interim. For the first two days of this week, Robert Moses has anchored. Before Ben was hired, Antwan Lewis was the primary fill-in anchor between Steve Lacy's departure for evenings in January 2013 and Ben's start in June 2013, at which time Antwan was named weekend evening anchor. I think it is possible that Antwan will fill in again at some point...
25. Dana Tyler filled in for Kristine Johnson today at 5:00 (alongside Dick Brennan, who was in for Maurice DuBois). This was a very rare 5:00 anchor appearance for Dana. Usually they'll have Alice Gainer as the main fill in for Kristine at 5:00 (Alice was also working today - she reported at 5:00).
