What does Bill say? I don’t watch WABC too often.

He’ll often throw comments in especially after political stories.. police involved stories.. and ALWAYS when it involved/involves Trump.

As mentioned, I’m a rather newcomer to NYC but how is Bill Ritter able to get away with his editorial comments during the news? It’s fine to have your say on social media but this man isn’t shy about adding his own commentary to the actual news in obvious ad-libs.

Couldn’t agree more.. I’ve actually started to turn to other stations because of it. I’m actually really starting to like WCBS at 5.. and I love the format at 6 on FOX5 with Lori Stokes. If FOX5 would get more serious at 5 I think a lot more people would tune in with Steve and Lori.. And let’s be honest if he was commenting “the other way” (we’ll leave it at that) it would not be allowed.

That’s possible. It could be as Bill is 71 with possible health conditions and we quite honestly don’t know how long the vaccines will be effective for, are they effective against the delta variant or can vaccinated people spread covid to non vaccinated people. If Bill said it was either keeping this arrangement for now or him retiring WABC may have decided they’d prefer to keep him over going back to anchors sitting side by side.

I don’t think a seating arrangement would force someone into retirement

  4. Watching the news at noon right now and both anchors are at the desk back to “pre-pandemic” sitting. I believe this is the first time the noon news is in the main studio since the pandemic began. That leaves I believe only WABC with anchors social distancing.

  5. Did anyone else see that Sukanya Krishnan and Scott Stanford are hosting a 9/11 special type thing.. seemed like it was a law firm infomercial on WLNY.. guess their podcast is getting them other air time?

They showed Brittany during the 11pm show tonight. Apparently she was on the web coverage during the storms earlier (although I could be wrong, wasn't paying that close attention). Was surprised to see Sam on all week (so far). Amy is on vacation (again) in the west, so we may see Brittany on Friday morning.

Update -- they had her on the 5pm newscast on Wednesday. Sade said something about being good to have a woman meteorologist. Maybe I misunderstood, but she must have forgotten about Amy.

Why are you surprised? He usually works Monday thru Thursday.

  7. I gotta give it up to WCBS they had by far the best coverage of the parade today in my opinion. It was nice to have the entire team out on the parade route and with the crowd. After flipping through all the stations, I really say they did it the best and were def #1 for coverage today.

I think that Greg has done enough at Newsmax to make himself toxic at any normal (call it mainstream if you insist) outlet. At least, I hope that is the case. And I really liked him on GDNY.

I don’t agree with you here.. Greg still has quite the following among viewers and even guests.. a lot of guests that used to appear on good day that no longer do now appear on Greg’s show.. you see a few people on Twitter that don’t agree or fire bsck or whatever on his page but that’s all SM.. if Greg were to come back (chances are low) i don’t see it hurting in any way

  9. So now to Lori’s replacement.. they say they’re looking for younger male talent.. I really hope they go outside the station.. I don’t see anyone at the station capable of filling the role.. maybe Robert Moses?? But I think that would get old fast.

I said it before but This move could def move WNYW to 2nd behind WABC at 5 and 6.

  10. Lori would do good with Steve and honestly with her at night I could see sliding into 2nd behind WABC. As for GDNY they’d have to look outside I don’t think anyone currently at WNYW could fill the spot. Could turn interesting

  11. So far it seems WNBC and WNYW have ended social distancing... news 12 seems to have most on air staff back in studio.. it can’t be much longer before others follow. New Jersey ends all capacity limits and such friday.. which is the last major restriction in place for the tri state so maybe they’re waiting for that

Has anyone noticed a shift in the editorial tone at WABC recently? It might just be for sweeps, but coverage of things like crime or city nuisances seems much less neutral and much more tabloid than they had been previously.

For instance, a report by Lucy Yang tonight on subway crime was much more forceful and scathing in attributing it to bail reform than I would have expected from WABC, nearly FOX-like in tone. The following report on a dirt bike crash referred to the familiar city nuisance as a “scourge”. I don’t think these examples are bad journalism or even ethically fraught, but they are an abrupt shift from the generally empathetic, descriptive, and non-analytical tone that I associate with Eyewitness News.

I’m curious to see if this continues - could management changes be the root of this? Happy to see them test new waters but if this is indeed a new approach, I’m not sure the New York Post is the best font of inspiration.

I noticed that the past few nights.. specifically with Lucy Yang as mentioned. However over the past few years (specifically during the past administration) Bill Ritter.. ONLY Bill Ritter.. would throw comments in making it quite clear of his political stance. It’ll be interesting to see what happens over the next few weeks.

Well that day arrived sooner than we all thought. NBC’s TODAY has their anchors back to normal seating this morning.  Let’s see how quickly the other networks and local stations can do it. Some of it will depend on readjusting the technical set up of the last 14 months; most of it will have to do with who’s vaccinated at each station and network.

Rosanna and Lori on FOX5 were sitting “normally “ this morning

  14. Maybe loan Kaity from weekends?

Is Kaity back? I know she was having some serious health issues.. my money says Jill Nicollini or Kirsten Cole.. I also remeber a few years back when Chris Burros was there they had him and John Muller anchor a few times together. But it'll most likely be one of the women.

  15. Michael Strahan interviewing one of the Jacksonville shooting survivors at the top of this morning’s broadcast and he leads off with the hard hitting question: “How are you feeling?”

Someone please send this man to an intro to journalism class and then let him back on America’s most watched morning newscast.

Can we really blame him here? He didn't study journalism.. The executives, however, know what's up.. They need to open their eyes and ears
