  1. Hm, so he was news director at KDVR in 2006. KDVR was actually fine until 2008/2009 when Dennis Leonard took over the news director position, which was when they were also merging with KWGN. That was a truly awful era. But before that, KDVR was very watchable and a decent product aside from the Tom Martino reports occasionally popping up and all the American Idol hype at the time, but that was just Fox anyway. I guess I'm glad they at least found someone local.
  2. I think it's fine. It probably is change for the sake of change, and the previous design was better, but this isn't awful. Plus, the format of the show is still the same, which is what counts more than a minor graphics update. If you want to see really terrible graphics, you can always flip over to ABC.
  3. I don't know if this is just new to me, but here is what sounds like the (mostly) full CBS This Morning theme in pretty high quality. It's worth a listen:
  4. That's exactly how I feel about ABC. There's really no point in bothering with ABC News unless if you're one of those people who watch the news for all the wrong reasons.
  5. As was stated, the ticker is still there. The rundown, lower third, and bug now slide up when they use the ticker instead of having a blank space at the bottom for it. KUSA just happened to not be using a ticker in that shot.
  6. KUSA has been using these updated lower thirds. I think they debuted this week, though I don't watch every newscast in town everyday like my former crazed self, so I can't be sure when. Everything also slides up a line when they turn on the ticker beneath the rundown. There's also a little bit of animation to that new blue stroke in the bug. I like that they take up less space, though since none of the other graphics were updated, these lower thirds are misaligned with everything else, which can look messy, especially in the double boxes. Has any other Gannett station adopted these? If not, this is probably the first time KUSA has gotten anything new graphics-wise before any other station.
  7. KCNC night side reporter Valerie Castro is jumping to WCBS: https://twitter.com/valcbs4/status/543171561885143040
  8. On the (perhaps only) upside of using half of a studio, there's some nice depth of field in that main anchor shot.
  9. According to the schedules, here's KMGH's lineup starting Sept 8: 4:30 7News Now 7:00 GMA 9:00 Meredith Vieira 10:00 The View 11:00 7News at 11 11:30 Right This Minute 12:00 The Chew 1:00 General Hospital 2:00 Let's Ask America 2:30 Inside Edition 3:00 Dr Oz 4:00 The Now 5:00 7News at 5 5:30 World News 6:00 7News Right Now (It's unknown what difference the 'Right Now' will have on the news ) 6:30 The List So 7News at 11 is shortened to 30 minutes to make room for Right This Minute, and Jeopardy and Wheel move to KDVR at the same times to make for the return of 6pm news and the debut of The List. (I'm not sure where Millionaire is going, but I would guess KTVD.) Seems like a pretty dumb strategy to me. I guess I can understand why they would cut back on the midday show, as it had to be one of the fluffiest hours of Denver television and always had been, but it's still a shame to see a reduction in local programming in favor of national stuff. Now that I've had a chance to watch The Now a few times, it seems like a pretty silly attempt to make things trendy and put on all that "take a look at this video that's gone viral online" junk. It's nothing like KMGH's 4pm news of a few years ago, which was one of the better hard newscasts in recent memory. I don't know what The List is all about, but looking at their website, it looks dumb too. Maybe the 6pm news will do well, but I doubt this lineup will pull greater numbers than what Jeopardy and Wheel do. I'm really not sold on this Scripps strategy.
  10. It seems like KUSA is always the last to get everything. Gannett seems to like trying new graphics/websites out on the podunk stations and sorting out all the bugs before it makes it back to the flagship.
  11. I liked Evrod. I really wish KCNC could hold onto some decent talent for a while. It seems like for the last few years, they've continuously hired some promising young reporters, only to see them leave for other markets. Dominic Garcia left for KFMB, Ty Brennan left for KSAZ, and Michelle Griego left for KPIX, among others. I wouldn't say that other stations in town have this problem.
  12. That's not surprising about Deborah and Jeremy taking over for Ron and Libby, though I wonder who will do the 10pm news with Hema Mullur and who will do the 7pm news on KWGN. I suppose Hema is an obvious fit, and maybe they'll move Boris Sanchez to weekdays?
  13. Who could remember KMGH's "Real Life, Real News"? [YT]DFQSsOTe8WQ[/YT][YT]Y9GD-sURggQ[/YT][YT] Ac6iwKiWMtc[/YT]
  14. I already said some of this on YouTube in the comments, but thank you for those. I watched that newscast everyday after school until they cancelled it. I remember that they kept the News4 branding for a while even though the station officially became "CBS4". In retrospect, it looks somewhat silly, but that 2003 revamp looks much nicer than the 2008 revamp or the new graphics that came in last month. I like that set a lot better than the current one. I also miss Stephanie Riggs. And Marcia Neville, even though she hated my school.
