There aren't any correspondents dedicated to network O&Os, or at least none that I'm aware of. They do get priority booking custom lives over other stations though.

I never really thought her delivery style fit KDVR or morning show formats all that well. I never thought she'd stay at KDVR for very long, but then again, nobody does.

I really wish I worked in that era of news.

Longtime Denver Post sports columnist and ESPN commentator Woody Paige is joining KMGH, per Tony Kovaleski:

KCNC's Lauren Whitney has been doing weather on WFOR this week. According to social media posts, it's only a temporary thing "to help her better understand hurricanes."

There's probably a lot more to it than just "she needed time to get over Phil Collins." Stations lie in press releases about this kind of stuff all the time, the most common example being "wanting to spend more time with family."

This is the most likely scenario out of anything suggested here (directors making graphics? Really?), but even then, that producer wasn't just picking an OTS image, he/she was also writing the script, making sure it was accurate and readable, finding video to match, having the video edited properly, writing a lower third to go with the VO, adding an anchor cue, worrying about timing and stacking, and many other things. Considering how many cutbacks have happened and how fewer people are working on more newscasts today even in big markets, it's surprising things like this don't make it to air more often.

Mark Koebrich said he's still going to fill-in as an anchor occasionally. Of course, those "still going to come back to do special reports" rarely, if ever, last long at all. Larry King said he'd be back on CNN when he left...

I haven't used iNews and Overdrive together, but I would gather that, assuming Overdrive didn't also fail, Overdrive still needs access to the rundowns, video, and whatnot through iNews/ENPS. On top of that, it would be somewhat difficult for the producer to be able to know what's going on and how to time the show without it. Also, it's stupid to think that one station will be the ratings leader forever. Nothing in this life is forever. And WPVI, despite what many people think, isn't necessarily the untouchable station that it's made out to be. They've had success and will probably continue to be successful for many years to come, but nothing is forever. Plenty of stations once believed to be on the same level have faltered before.

That's a really pretty newsroom. A lot of thought must have gone into that. Even the assignment desk matches the anchor desks.- 3703 replies

Glad to see they got rid of that 'public bathroom tile' look.

You're telling me that your news director, in a market #4 newsroom, has to approve of all stringer tape purchases? That's either one really inefficient newsroom with a power tripping news director, or something else doesn't add up here. And you're telling me that an assignment editor of 30 years can't explain the process for booking satellite time? Or that an assignment editor of 30 years thinks that anchors having egos is a "scoop?" Some people here actually do work in newsrooms and can see through this.
-
What about stringer tape? What's the current process/policy for it over there? How much, how often, and who approves?
-
I'm curious — how does booking satellite time work at NBC O&Os? How many ENG trucks does WCAU have?

I ran across some footage of KEZI in Eugene, which seems to use a bootleg cross between the KTLA look and the old KYW look. And it doesn't look that bad, really...

Kristine Johnson has been filling in on CBS This Morning and also apparently has popped up on CBSN a few times. Is she gearing up for a move to national?

If you've never seen The Now, you can take a look at some of the content that Newsy has. It's some division of Scripps that produces packages about national news (or "trends") with content scraped from social media. I don't really get what it is or whether Scripps is trying to make it a site that stands on its own to compete with a lot of the other new media outlets, but a lot of Newsy packages are fed into The Now (or at least that's true for the KMGH version). As for Denver, I don't really mind The Now all that much, as their only competition is KUSA, which is also pretty silly at that hour. KMGH's old 4pm format from a few years ago that was single-anchored by Anne Trujillo with a lot of hard news and a smidge of topical viewer email responses (much like what Jack Cafferty used to do) was my favorite.

Keba Arnold moves from KXTV to anchor the new 4pm news on KTVU and 7pm news on KICU: http://www.adweek.com/tvspy/ktvu-adds-sacramento-anchor/147950

I remember she used to do those social media/opinion-y type things from that silly "Interactive Help Center." It seemed like she was on everyday in the mornings or during that brief period when they brought 4pm news back, though I can't remember the last time I saw her on air. Given that KCNC has shifted direction a little bit in the last few years to more hard news, I could see where maybe she wouldn't be in favor here anymore. Anyway, some news from KTVU: Tori Campbell to leave in June to spend more time with family. Gasia Mikaelian will replace her on Mornings on 2 (and presumably the noon news as well). http://wn.ktvu.com/Clip/11344408/ktvus-gasia-mikaelian-to-join-mornings-on-2#.VR35yq73VOY.facebook No word yet on what will happen to the 5pm and 7pm, though my guess is they put Julie back on the 5pm and leave the 7pm to be a rotation of Heather Holmes, Ken Pritchett, or Eric Rasmussen.
-
Ah yes, I should correct myself. KCNC did it in the past but stopped doing it when the Wordpress sites debuted as well.
-
KCNC, another CBS O&O that never streamed, is now streaming their newscasts as well.

Hm, so he was news director at KDVR in 2006. KDVR was actually fine until 2008/2009 when Dennis Leonard took over the news director position, which was when they were also merging with KWGN. That was a truly awful era. But before that, KDVR was very watchable and a decent product aside from the Tom Martino reports occasionally popping up and all the American Idol hype at the time, but that was just Fox anyway. I guess I'm glad they at least found someone local.
-
I think it's fine. It probably is change for the sake of change, and the previous design was better, but this isn't awful. Plus, the format of the show is still the same, which is what counts more than a minor graphics update. If you want to see really terrible graphics, you can always flip over to ABC.

I don't know if this is just new to me, but here is what sounds like the (mostly) full CBS This Morning theme in pretty high quality. It's worth a listen:
