It's almost time; there has been a lot of NHL-related news in the media realm, given the new U.S. rightsholders, as well as Sportsnet getting a new studio and hopefully new graphics this year (if the renderings of their new studio are any indication).

ESPN's logo was recently revealed, and it reminds me a lot of the previous NBA on ESPN logo so that's a good sign.

Long-time HNIC voice Jim Hughson also announced his retirement today at the age of 64; although it was stated to be COVID-related, I wouldn't be surprised if him only doing Vancouver games last season was meant to lead into this.

Also worth noting that Turner Sports released their broadcast schedule the same day ESPN released theirs as well. And there's TNT's logo of their NHL coverage.

At 4:00 they were in the new studio. But still old FOX graphics and FOX46 branding. Maybe they did have last minute change of mind. We'll see. As for the studio, so far it has a big monitor wall behind the desk with what may be a live cam pic of the Charlotte skyline. Need to see a bit more.

From this vid you can see parts of the set.

I find I can no longer watch them.  It's the little comments and other stories pushing Sincrap's agenda.  The mostly young untested talent.  When I visit RI at least monthly, I have to watch another station for news or stream my local NBC flagship station.  Too many watch WJAR out of habit, and its time they get a new habit.

I usually prefer WPRI/FOX Providence anyway.

  5. So not sure if anyone saw this, but longtime WJAR NBC 10 meteorologist Kelly Bates is no longer working for the station, and it brought some outrage in Southern New England. NBC 10 claims that she turned down her contract, and there's a petition out to call NBC 10 to reinstate her.

Well I hope they reconsider and keep the branding FOX46 instead of changing to FOX Charlotte. And I hope the Nexstar graphics look good because I think the current FOX graphics look very good an don't necessarily need to be changed. But i know they often change graphics when a new set debuts.

Well about that the part of reconsidering.

    He will be missed! ❤️

Literally one of the best in this city, I wish the best of luck to him on his retirement.

Something of note, they're dropping their Monday and Wednesday night games.  I wonder if NBC, CBS, FOX or Turner might want to sweep in and pick up those games.

I could see FOX or TBS doing it.

  10. Couple of news today in the ESPN world:

ESPN and MLB reached a long-term extension for 7 years

And ESPN has reached a long-term agreement with Spain's La Liga for the next 8 seasons (through the 2028-29 season). The deal includes the broadcast rights in Canada on TSN and RDS. The new deal will kick starting in the 2021-22 season.
