  1. This could become a reality as Comcast is looking to make cuts to NBCU's network operations.
  2. I wonder how much of CW's reportedly extravagant programming spend went towards licensing the syndicated content that runs on there. I suppose there's nothing stopping Nexstar from blowing up those deals and simulcasting Antenna TV or Rewind TV in place of that content.
  3. Nexstar's programming direction for The CW includes procedurals and sitcoms.
  4. Studios license shows to their sibling networks, yes.
  5. WWE's ratings have remained relatively stable while the rest of linear TV collapses, so they've suddenly become a hot commodity in the sports rights fee arms race. Will they stick to linear or go to streaming? The next round of negotiations will be interesting to keep an eye on.
  6. Here he is dropping a tease about potentially pursuing sports rights (0:49):
  7. This tidbit stood out to me: How the hell?
  8. While the acquisition isn't formally closed yet, Nexstar is immediately assuming corporate oversight of The CW. Nexstar plans to spend $2 billion a year on programming for the network, and will target an older demographic.
  9. Speaking of which, I haven't heard a peep out of them regarding their fall schedule yet.
  10. XFL has announced a new TV deal with Disney. Games will air across ABC, ESPN, and FX. XFL ANNOUNCES EXCLUSIVE MULTI-YEAR BROADCAST AGREEMENT WITH THE WALT DISNEY COMPANY AND ESPN

  15. A move spurred in part by WFAA's recent reception woes, no doubt. Their signal has been more elusive than usual since they completed their facility changes this summer. Reducing ERP on VHF wasn't a good idea. This strikes me as a really roundabout way of doing what should've been a simple facility swap. If the plan is for Estrella to acquire WFAA's VHF facility, surely this could've been done in a more straightforward fashion? For Estrella, easily parting with an O&O in DMA #5 and potentially ending up on a weaker signal doesn't send a good message about their future. Either way, Tegna can maneuver this into more cap space...
  16. This wouldn't shock me. Remember when Fox entertained the possibility of selling their O&O's to Amazon?
  17. It's hard to picture Disney cutting ABC loose. So much of their infrastructure and properties are tied up with the network. IIRC just recently Disney was using ABC as a bargaining chip in NFL negotiations. But the O&O stations? I can definitely see those on the chopping block.
  18. WFAA is the likeliest candidate.
