This question is for whoever lives in Charlotte: Do they still even do the three anchor format? Because from all the clips I see on YouTube it's just Morgan and Kirk, even though all three get equal billing, are featured equally in promos, etc. Will Kennedy, formerly of notorious ABC affiliate WEAR in Pensacola, joins Christine Noel and Morgan Fogarty as a 10pm anchor at WCCB in Charlotte. No word on Kirk Hawkins, whose bio has been removed from the site.

Average viewer does not choose newscasts based on the opening voiceover...The Boston Herald has reported that WBZ has fired ND John Verrilli. Unsurprisingly, ratings are believed to be the reason behind the decision. According to the Herald article, WBZ is third (out of 4 stations) in the evening and last in the morning. Assistant ND Sarah Burke has been installed as interim ND.Would you like to know what I'd like to see out of BZ? VO John Pliesse be replaced by either Scott Chapin or Bill Ratner. Don't get me wrong, Pliesse is fine, but I think Chapin or Ratner could drive in fairly better ratings at BZ, IMO.

According to TVSPY, Nick and Danielle Kosir are leaving KMVT and going to the East Coast. TVSpy says they're going to Charlotte. $1 bets that they are going to WJZY to be a part of the morning team.
From TVSpy:
Danielle Kosir, Nick Kosir and Andrew Reed Sign Off From KMVT
By Merrill Knox on March 28, 2014 11:16 AM
Three members of the KMVT news team are leaving the station: Danielle Kosir, Nick Kosir and Andrew Reed will all sign off today to “pursue new opportunities,” Twin Falls, Idaho station says.
Danielle Kosir is the main anchor and producer of the weekday morning and noon newscast. Her husband, Nick Kosir — better known as The Rapping Weatherman — is the meteorologist for the same newscasts. The station says the pair is heading back to the east coast (TVSpy hears they are headed to Charlotte).
Reed, a general assignment reporter for KMVT, is headed back to his native California. He joined the station in 2012.

it's not even finished yet lol. Don't know who has the worse in-house digital strategy, Sinclair or Nexstar...

A few themes I've always been wondering about:
- KMOL 1979
- KTVY 1980
- KSAT 1987
- KMOL 1993
- WJBK 1984
- Us Viewing You (WJBK 1985/6-88)
KMOL 1979 and KTVY 1980 sound like they came from the same composer. For some strange reason, I'm wanting to think these were commissioned by "Klein &"...
- KMOL 1979

I don't understand why they feel they need to have two different content platform groups. Shouldn't Inergize be enough for them?
Doubt it. You would've thought that after they got Inergize they would've done that, but no, they just took the existing design and adapted it to the Inergize CMS. Which means someone within Nexstar really loves that layout...Maybe they'll be able to make a website that's user-friendly and easy on the eyes for once.

Want to see an even closer knockoff of the 1995 Hearst look?

It won't last. And I won't be watching because I do not subscribe to Time Warner nor do I plan on doing so. That's as much as I'll say.It looks like Time Warner Cable is preparing to expand its regional cable news holdings with a new channel in San Antonio.
http://blog.mysanantonio.com/jakle06/2014/03/time-warner-launching-s-a-news-channel/
Time Warner also couldn't financially sustain News9 on their own once they ended their agreement with Belo. News 14 seems to have since recovered. This isn't their first try; they attempted News 9 San Antonio in 2002, but disputes with Belo put an end to that channel, as well as News 24 Houston, and partially crippled News 14 Carolinas.
Maybe TWC knows the deal with Comcast is going to fall through...I wonder how long this will last if the Comcrap-TW deal goes through. Seems like odd timing to announce something like this if there's a question of Comcrap even keeping the service after the merger.
(kidding of course)

Mentioned a while back that WBNG got new graphics (and it looks like WPTA also got them and in fact they were created there). Mentioning it here too and if you take a look at them, looks like a huge ripoff of the Hearst look and Look F.

Why do you need a separate set for the social media segment? There's nothing wrong with reading them from the regular set. As my man FTV Live put it:Yes, it's not conducive for hard news, but it makes sense. People are migrating away from TV to online and social media, and viewers want to interact. This is a way to keep viewers and keep them engaged. Can't help but wonder if it was also motivated in part by Lara's contract renegotiation. This gives her something more to do on the show.
Both [Orange Room and Social Square] are nothing more than window dressing, a corner of the studio dressed up to look high tech..
Speaking of the #socialsquare GMA”‘s Senior Executive Producer Tom Cibrowski. “This will revolutionize how our show is produced in the morning and its all about engaging directly with our viewers from beginning to end.”
Really?! It's going to revolutionize how the show is produced?
Of course it's not.
Word to the networks, you can access Facebook and Twitter without a special color room that is a certain shape.
Really you can.
This is just another example of networks and TV stations thinking the viewer is that dumb.
Not that long ago, news crews would head out to the story in a live truck. Now they descend on the story in the "mobile newsroom"
A live hit from the Reporter in the newsroom no longer happens. They are now in the "content center" or some other stupid name.
It's all just lipstick on a pig.
Even if the pig is orange and square.
Sara Haines annoys the hell out of me...On a separate note, I think ABC should find an anchor spot for Amy Robach on GMA similar to what NBC has done on Today for Tamron Hall and Carson Daly. Even if Amy had the equivalent of Carson's job on GMA (reporting from the #SocialSquare), she is a vital part of GMA these days.
Also, another rising star on GMA... Sara Haines.

Well you're on the opposite end then because I don't like their current layout at all. It looks dated and cluttered to me. This new Gannett layout will be a massive improvement.Shame. I like the current azcentral layout and still can't adjust to the new Gannett layout.
-
wow, they butchered the open so badlySince most of former Belo stations switch to new graphics, it seems KVUE has switched. But there is no recording of this graphics.....until now.

aka Christopher Ward...I suspect that's "AlvinLikesBritanny" (sp?) with a new account, too.

Don't forget WMAR 1993. Very 90's but I love that theme, one of my faves for sure.Hopefully someday in the future, the composers of these following themes could be identified:
-
(also used on)
-
(also used on WAKC)
-
-
-
(used until '97)
This posting could be edited if I think of another unknown theme.

Nexstar isn't going to let go of KTAL. KMSS or KSHV could go to American Spirit (probably KSHV, Nexstar likely wants KMSS). But it could go either way and I could see KMSS going to American Spirit. ArkLaTex News Now anyone?Agreed, the Citadel deal is clean and can definitely be approved as is.
As for the ComCorp deal, they definitely should order a divestment of assets in Evansville (either WEVV or the existing WTVW/WEHT duopoly) and Shreveport (either KTAL or the KMSS/KSHV duopoly) to a third party. Who would be willing to pick up those divested assets?
-
Yes, I wish they would just hurry up on ComCorp already. I think it will go through, but not as-is. They've gotta go back and revise it instead of just sitting around hoping it will get approved exactly as it is. The second shell company is not going to work in Evansville and they need to just let American Spirit pick it up.
For the rest of the stations I don't see anything wrong with it, since they're just continuing the status quo.
I'm still wondering why Citadel hasn't gone through. No conflicts. I understand they want to get Grant as well and there's a confilict in the Quad Cities, but that shouldn't stop them from ruling on Citadel now.
Things are not looking good for the broadcasting industry right now and Wheeler's anti-business strategy...

Hate to be blunt but you clearly do not know the San Antonio market. Because of the large Hispanic population, Univision 41 is always within the top 4 (sometimes #1 or #2 sign-on to sign-off [all day ratings]). Sometimes WOAI's in there, other times it's KABB. But the other is usually out of the top 4.If the "Big 4" are the top four rated stations in each market, here's the issues in the top-50:
11. Detroit – WWJ CBS 62 (CBS O&O) no news
21. St. Louis – KDNL ABC 30 (Sinclair) no news
23. Pittsburgh – WPGH Fox 53 (Sinclair) news outsourced to WPXI
24. Raleigh-Durham – WRAL CBS 5 and WRAZ Fox 50 (both Capitol)
32. Columbus – WSYX ABC 6 and WTTE Fox 28 (both Sinclair; WTTE has LMA with Cunningham)
36. San Antonio – WOAI NBC 4 and KABB Fox 29 (both Sinclair)
38. West Palm Beach – WFLX Fox 29 (Raycom) news outsourced to WPTV
45. Hampton Roads – WAVY NBC 10 and WVBT Fox 43 (both LIN)
46. Piedmont Triad – WXLV ABC 45 (Sinclair) news outsourced to Time Warner Cable News (formerly News 14 Carolina)
47. Albuquerque – KRQE CBS 13 and KASA Fox 2 (both LIN)
48. Jacksonville – WTLV NBC 12 and WJXX ABC 25 (both Gannett) AND WAWS Fox 30 and WTEV CBS 47 (both Cox; WTEV has JSA with Bayshore); though there's independent WJXT channel 4
If Sinclair had to divest here, it would probably be KMYS. And that can easily be sold to Gannett, Post-Newsweek or even Corridor (owners of KCWX, whose COL is within the Austin market but is rated by Nielsen as part of the San Antonio market).

Former KSAT ND Jim Boyle, who ran the newsroom for 29 years, passed away yesterday following a 5-month battle with cancer that forced him to resign. He was 66.
All my condolences go out to his family. RIP Jim, you'll truly be missed, especially by your extended family over at KSAT.

HummingbirdNash is referring to Hummingbird Productions. I think we have another theme find (or at least something that may lead to it). From user HummingbirdNash, notable local promos alongside other vintage commercials, it's a good look.

Julie Tremmel, the WJAR reporter who became infamous after doing a news story about what you should do during a bear attack and doing a standup on both her hands, is filing a grievance against the station over what she believes is a wrongful termination.
There is a petition to bring her back to the station. Their goal is a 1000 signatures; they currently have 146.

WTAJ used the "WTAJ Drone" to showcase the aftermath from a traffic accident. The video wasn't that good. You can hardly make out anything.

The exact reason I dislike this package. They are not designing a website, they are designing a look for broadcast. I think they forgot that when they were designing this.I totally disagree on G3.0 still not being great. I think the look is excellent, and well-constructed. If you go to the Gannett Graphics Group facebook page, you'll see what can be done with this look - which is almost anything. (Even though they haven't updated since July.) G3.0 is just a really solid design that takes UX and web design grid principles into account.
I can see it certainly being upgraded, since Belo was rolling out Miranda gfx hardware to their stations, and I think some of the Gannetts are running on Dekos still. But they have a solid base to work on.
-
I like Chroma Cues. It could use some updates (as I've said countless times) the current cuts are from 1997. Their graphics aren't the worst as mentioned. The overuse of Helvetica extended however ruins it for me. Some of their graphics are even difficult to read because of it.
But the O&O look would be a massive improvement. And Upchurch I believe is around still, I've heard some of his most recent radio imaging (2012/3) and he can definitely bring it up to modern times without loosing the overall feel of the theme.

Great, probably a shell for KSWO/Drewry. The reason I think so is because the buyer is from Lawton specifically, which is where Drewry's from. Fortunately though, KSWO has actually managed to keep KAUZ mostly separate despite the JOA/SSA. They have to be applauded for that.New M&A This Morning!!!
Hoak is selling KAUZ to a new entity KAUZ Media, Inc., owned Lawton, OK lawyer, Bill W. Burgess, Jr.

Brian Collister joins KXAN from KTRK. Wants to be closer to his family. HUGE get for KXAN, since Brian is one of the best investigative reporters in the country. I believe he replaces Shannon Wolfson as full-time lead investigative reporter, after she was bumped up to main anchor.
KXAN was already a good station, but now that they have Collister, they'll be my go-to station in Austin.
Take that, "Austin's News Leader" (KVUE, who likes to remind you of this every chance they get)
