  1. Let me just say that the way Megyn Kelly's show was Today should be how it always is... Opening with a panel discussion of the day's biggest issues whether it is politics or terrorism, etc. It seemed right in her wheel house... She seemed more comfortable, with less arm waving and less awkwardness.

  2. Incomming Rant...

Can NBC please stop forcing/tricking guests who clearly don't like nor want to be with Megyn Kelly on her show? If I were MK, I would rather have no celebrity guests that day or maybe interview a politician or newsmaker or fellow journalist about current events instead. There's too much celebrity stuff and it's clearly not in her wheel house and now it's causing PR issues.

I defended the Debra Messing thing on Monday cause it was only a joke, but I can't defend the Jane Fonda debacle today. The producers and/or MK clearly did not vet the Q's cause Jane seemed like she only wanted to talk about her movie.

After this week, what Hollywood agent is going to put their clients on MK? It's better to have no guest or guests that actually don't mind being there instead of guests who look forced to be.

NBC needs to tone down the celebrity gaga that MK is clearly not comfortable with and have on more news making and yes, political guests. How is it that "The View" can do this but not the woman who made a name for herself interviewing politicians and newsmakers. Politicians are used to interrogating like questions, not celebrity's who will bash you later on Twitter.

I really do see potential in the show but not if they can't utilize MK's strengths.

    End Rant.

  3. I'm more interested to see what the show is like and how it flows by the end of the week into next week. It's difficult to judge the first day because the first day of any talk show is "awkward." Most talk shows take up to a year to fully settle into a groove. We'll see how long NBC's patience is.

  4. In my opinion, the way this show will be successful is if they are able to make it feel like your watching "Today" as well as continue the momentum of the first two hours.

A couple ways to achieve this...

1.)Have Megyn appear on the first two hours and have Today contributors and anchors appear on her show.

2.)Promote and continue segments that will air on Megyn's show during the first two hours. Start a segment on Today and then continue it more in depth on Megyn's show to give people a reason to continue watching.

If they do this I actually think the show will be fine.

  5. I'm curious if the news crawl will remain up during the show? Since KLG & Hoda doesn't air here does the crawl air during their show.

The crawl does air during KLG and Hoda. It could go either way, but since Megyn's show will be part of Today I feel that they might have the crawl up. We'll see.

  6. Chuck Scarborough is not in tonight which I think is almost 3-4 weeks he's been off. Wondering where he is. Maybe he is just taking most of his vacation time now.

Chuck is back and he's been off air because he had knee surgery on both knees! He said he's back two weeks earlier than expected. Good for him!

  7. A couple of other Today Show notes... Today seems to have done away with a local news break at 9:26. I'm guessing this is being done in prep. for Megyn Kelly's show which I guess won't have a break for local news and weather in the middle of the show.

Also, KLG and Hoda have a new opening intro.

  8. Has Brian Williams anchor news coverage outside of his show lately? I didn't notice him on Thursday afternoon during the breaking news in Spain.

I think due to his regular program he only seems to anchor breaking news that is really big or breaking news that is already planned such as congressional hearings or speeches, etc.

  9. Starting this Sunday (8/6), the morning line up on wnbc will be as follows...

    6am: Today in NY

8am: Sunday Today with Willie Giest

    9am: Open House NYC

    9:30am: Today in NY

    10:30am: Meet the Press

Wnbc was the only o&o to air Sunday Today at 9am... That's no longer the case.

  10. The title of that article is very misleading though... Not sure why that site still has it up... Nowhere has it been confirmed that the show is cancelled and the latest per Brian Stelter's newsletter tonight is that O'Donnell's agent has yet to hear of MSNBC's intentions but MSNBC executives are saying that they want to keep the show on the air.

  11. I just can not see this happening... Out of all the conservatives msnbc has, they may give a show to the person who will likely alienate their base the most. It's the equivalent of Fox News putting Keith Olbermann on weekends, it wouldn't make sense. Also, I can tell you now no one Dem. or Rep. is going to watch that show. Someone tell Andy Lack it's not 1997 msnbc anymore.

  12. I noticed that too!... She first came on this morning at 7:30 and read some headlines with Matt and Savannah almost like she was one of the main anchors...I feel like they are leaning that way, which is a good thing since people seem to really like Hoda.

  13. NBC would have to pull a "Meredith Viera" and hire someone from the outside who is already known...Anderson Cooper maybe? He's proven himself with hard news as well as lighter fare.

  14. Looks good...hard to tell until we see the finished product... If you look at the very bottom picture you can see they are using the same desk with the same windows behind it... So as I assumed it would be a similar set to what they have now, just bigger.
