  1. Time for a new formula, in my opinion. I think the tabloid approach has gotten a little stale.
  2. True. The power company installed a new electric meter which I have the ability to monitor through an app. I have a 10-year old 58 inch Samsung Plasma TV. The knock-on plasmas was that they were supposed to be energy hogs, right? Wrong. That huge TV uses only about 100 Watts according to the app. But when I have the cable box on, power usage spikes to 500 watts. I couldn't believe it and then I googled it and sure enough these boxes can use up to 500 watts. And I don't even have a DVR. I canceled the DVR because I found that I watch a lot less TV when I don't have the ability to record. This is just a plain jane HD cable box and it uses 500w. That's probably about as much as my electric oven uses. Un-freakin'-believable.
  3. I rarely watch anyting on TV. It's usually just on as background noise. I like some of the LPTVs around here because there are a handful of channels that show old movies.
  4. My parents are too old and stupid to handle streaming. Even email's a challenge for them sometimes. I buried a wire, technically illegal, but I told the cable company what I was doing. They don't care - they just wanted a sale. My dad is 85 and he watches a lot of football and futball. My mom is 81 and likes the old movies on TCM and all the woman channels. They both watch the news channels and the local stations.
  5. I shouldn't have to pay for anything that isn't ad free. Besides, they're killing the golden goose. The only reason I still have cable is because my parents live next door. I buy it for them. Otherwise, I mostly watch over the air TV. I pay $120 ish a month for what they call the medium package and internet. Internet only is about $40 for 100 megabit or maybe it's up to 300 megabit now. That $80 a month extra is a charitable contribution to keep my parents from fighting with each other out of boredom. Is the crap you see on cable worth $80 a month or $960 a year? Nope.
  6. Like I said, cable companies should do what the satellite companies used to do and hook you up in a manner so that you just pick up channels off the air, but they get tuned through the cable box. Then these silly disputes will stop and so will the <strike>stream of revenue</strike> extortion money paid to broadcasters.
  7. The switch to MeTV was pretty seamless on WBNS. At midnight, right in the middle of the intro to "Star Trek: Enterprise," the music stops and Perry Mason appears, already in progress. The PSIP still says "Heroes" on 10.2 but earlier today I noticed that it only said "4.2" on WCMH. Decades is still on 10.3. I didn't check to see if there is now a 10.4. I hope so.
  8. If I were going to create a show, I would do something which incorporates elements of the old local variety/talk shows they used to have. I would make it more of a what's happening in town kind of show as opposed to a show that focuses on car accidents and people killing each other in the hood. I don't know if it would work or not, but local news is stale.
  9. Like: Channel 3 and 19 Hate: Channel 5, 8, 25, 55 and 68 (Mansfield) Indifferent or NA: Channel 23, 43, 61 and all the rest
  10. Some people love it, other people hate it. As far as I'm concerned that is a good thing. At least people are noticing it and no matter what the haters say, it's still better than the channel 5 logo, which is hideous.
  11. T-Mobile has the use of fuchsia covered, I think. It stands out, though. Maybe lime green (like BP) would stand out better.
  12. Looks good, but they should go with a different font for the names. It just looks like something is missing.
  13. I don't mind the Sinclair graphics on WSYX. Some of them are even borderline attractive. But that transition thing with the blue and white diagonal stripes has got to go. That is beyond ugly.
  14. I was thinking of you guys on the way to the game this evening.
  15. Good question. I bet they do get the music and graphics, but the logo looks pretty good right now. I didn't like it before, but I think it looks good with their blue color theme and inside a blue square. Likewise with WTHR. I think their logo looks great since they updated it. I don't know that I liked their graphics so much though. Too much gray for my tastes.
  16. If I were TEGNA, I would downplay it. Most people who don't follow this stuff think the stations are still locally (or in the case of WTHR, almost locally) owned. There is an advantage to that. In fact, I would have given the Wolfes token ownership in the stations (like 100 shares of Tegna stock) just so they could continue to pretend they are locally owned.
  17. Cincinnati is only a Cincinnati problem. Ohio State football is a statewide problem. If you don't believe me, check out the ratings big OSU games get in Cleveland and Dayton. Even the Ohio part of the Charleston-Huntington market watches a lot of OSU football.
  18. I just wanted to point out one more thing. Look at retail store fronts back in the old days. They all kind of used the same lettering on their storefronts. This WKYC logo isn't exactly old school, but it is more in that direction. For anybody who cares, the picture is of the Monroeville Miracle Mile Shopping Center in the Pittsburgh area. But the same developer had shopping centers in various Ohio cities and they all kind of looked the same..
  19. I love those pictures and how it looks. That said, I was at Giant Eagle tonight and maybe that's where they got the idea?
  20. Seth Green 1991 commercial for Snapps with a couple/ID's of promos for WKYC-TV in Cleveland.
  21. "MeTV will air on WBNS-TV over the air channel 10.2 Spectrum Channels, 986, 142, 1141, 187, WOW Ch. 112, Frontier Ch. 60, Horizon View Ch. 13, Sycamore Telephone Ch. 17" All those extra channels listed make me wonder if MeTV was the one that dumped Nexstar.
  22. Looks like you replied before I was able to complete my edit. I'm not good at doing this on a phone. But yeah, that was my point--when you've used a logo for almost 35 years, maybe it's time for a change.
