More UCSF. Asterisks denote new (to me) themes/cuts:
WESH 12 PM, 1989: https://archive.org/details/tobacco_lnp91f00
HUGE reel from 1989. WFSB, KYW, WPLG, WLVI, KCOP, KUSA, KGO, and WTOG all make appearances. Highlights include a new WFSB theme, a "hybrid" KYW open (watch and you'll see what I mean), a sloppily edited KCOP open (or is it a sloppily edited tape?), and Tampa Bay Tonight with Centerpiece (perhaps they flipped directly from this to the early 90s theme?). https://archive.org/details/tobacco_var91f00*
KGTV's Inside San Diego, 1988: https://archive.org/details/tobacco_xty27a00*
KMBC 6 PM, 1987: https://archive.org/details/tobacco_cww27a00
WDAF 6 AM, 1990: https://archive.org/details/tobacco_tvx27a00*
WDAF 12 PM and 5 PM, 1992: https://archive.org/details/tobacco_ery27a00
KSDK Midday AM, 1983: https://archive.org/details/tobacco_nkw27a00*
KSDK 6 AM, 1991: https://archive.org/details/tobacco_oxx27a00
KSDK 6 AM, 1989: https://archive.org/details/tobacco_uox27a00
Also, a ticker
can be briefly heard in this KTVI clip from 1988: https://archive.org/details/tobacco_xxw27a00 -
I don't know. Maybe somebody didn't want to be on camera? For that WRC clip, was was going on in the back during the newsroom shot? It looks like somebody had a poncho on, or was doing something with a garbage bag.

Continuing with the UCSF collection...
WRGB noon & 6:30 with a theme I don't recognize, 1987: https://archive.org/details/tobacco_ctw27a00
Noon news from D.C. and Baltimore. WBAL's Great News/Pride Inside combo, a new cut of The News Leader, and a short open with WMAR 1985 are featured. 1986: https://archive.org/details/tobacco_qhx27a00
WFSB 5:30 talent open, 1992: https://archive.org/details/tobacco_xqy27a00
WFSB 5:00 open, 1988: https://archive.org/details/tobacco_ccx27a00
WXYZ 5:00 PM, followed by...WGPR NewScope! 1986: https://archive.org/details/tobacco_ohx27a00
WBAL's 5:30 Live with a new cut of what sounds like the Great News/Pride Inside combo, along with clips from WUSA (generic EWN open), WRC (new cut of the 1986 theme), and WTTG (nice model flyover with the Metromedia theme). 1986, I think: https://archive.org/details/tobacco_shx27a00

Well, since Pensacola just came up...WBRZ 1985 is an unnamed theme by Terry Sweet & Associates, according to the uploader of all those clips featuring WEAR using it.

This is...I don't know how to describe it, just watch. KQDS, Duluth/Superior.

I was wondering when they'd step up to the plate and do this. Supposedly 3 blows everyone else out of the water ratings-wise at 4. Then again, they say they blow everyone else out of the water everywhere else, too.On Monday, February 24th, WTKR's "First at 4" is getting some competition. WAVY will debut its 4pm newscast.

This seems to be inspired by a mix of the early 80s Corinthian look (gradient lines) and the "And You" look (text - do we have a proper name for this?). And it's incredibly well-done.Another vintage Tampa Bay open (Very hard to come by!). It's WTOG-44 circa early 80's:
I have some finds of my own (date guesstimation where needed):
WHEC using PNP on a wet morning in 1988: https://archive.org/details/tobacco_erw27a00
"Newsight 21" on WHP at about 13:25 with a new theme, dated as 1989: https://archive.org/details/tobacco_iar91f00
Another new WHP theme, along with a WHTM open, probably 1990ish: https://archive.org/details/tobacco_zxx27a00
Cold WCAX open from 1989: https://archive.org/details/tobacco_mqx27a00
WSMV with The Diary and "The Channel 4 News" branding, probably 1994, along with a WTVF open: https://archive.org/details/tobacco_pqy27a00
KTBC talent open with Yours Truly, 1989: https://archive.org/details/tobacco_ynp91f00
WTEN short open with PNP, followed by AM Buffalo on WKBW, dated as 1989: https://archive.org/details/tobacco_mar91f00
...wait, it's 11:40? Boy, this is addictive.

I'm beginning to think that WBMG was using this when they restarted their news department in '87. That open screams mid-80s small market/low-budget to me.
-
And there's a KPHO news/weather update with Stu Tracey at the start of this clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9K3HdpYlPPg
The music used in this sounds an awful lot like
...I smell production music. -
Good heavens...how low can WWBT go in the graphics department?

VARTV is reporting that WVEC will soon launch a 4 PM newscast. This comes on the heels of WAVY's new 4 PM show, which launches Monday.
No word yet on when the new show will debut, or who will anchor it.
