  1. There's a certain faux pas in the new ID that caught my eye immediately...
  2. Absolutely wonderful nod to the past! Kudos to them!
  3. WMBD's look was as much of a knockoff as KIVI's - albeit a better one.
  4. Your eyes aren't deceiving you...KIVI had of the MG look of the time.
  5. Consider that WTEV/WJAX is nominally the junior partner in the duopoly, and has been basically shelled out and/or twinsticked to WAWS/WFOX for almost 25 years now. The $1.2 million likely reflects the value of the license and transmitter facilities, and not much else.
  6. Yuck, that is one of the worst depictions of Virginia I've ever seen...
  7. At least they had an...interesting 19 logo!
  8. As P.B. Media mentioned, KHBS/KHOG used to...the practice went back to at least the 80s going by the voiceover copy in their opens.
  9. That VTV open has some seriously impressive compositing work. Whoever made that got their money's worth out of their ADO! (and yes, it's just as weird for me seeing Alex Trebek in a role like that...)
  10. That is indeed Total News, in fact I was just listening to the cut in the tease towards the end the other day. However, while they certainly seem to have been the first after WCBS to pick it up, I don't think they commissioned it - at least, if you go by the logo melody. It's too spot on with "W-C-B-S-T-V, Chan-nel 2 News" and too far off from KTVX's own branding at the time.
  11. I'm pretty sure that WICU look is a knockoff...not the only one to have appeared lately! Meanwhile from Huntsville, The News Station brings you Action News 19, on the day after the 1977 crash of Southern Airways Flight 242:
  12. Geez...they even pulled a KOTA and used a (cheap) substitute for the open's Lubalin Graph in the OTS!
  13. That information has been in the NMSA's database for over 15 years, but I've never seen a single thing to back it up. I for one think the '86-'88 dating actually applies to the electronic theme...
  14. Wonder if this lines up with the "Nightly News Package" - and whether that is Palmer at all. (It always sounded just a little too...off of the Palmer vein to me.) Singing it to 1989 lines up perfectly! 1984, to be specific. This image is...really bad, but I'll quote a relevant bit of it here as an anti-eyestrain measure: Tallahassee. This is our place. We hope you've seen our new call letters and logos. [...] And a new name, NEWSIGHT 27, describes what local TV news does here [...] One other thing I noticed - there's a listing for WECA alongside WTXL. The 1980 theme rings a bell - 27, Up and Coming? EDIT: Adding a clipping of the referenced newspaper ad: https://www.newspapers.com/clip/29141556/
  15. Let's see...taking some educated guesses on some of these here. * WAGT - 26 Power * WKZO - The 1980 theme * WJBK - 2 Together (which would make TServo right) * WGXA - That Macon Spirit * KWCH - Look of a Leader Needless to say, this is definitely very interesting and a potentially major find.
  16. That's some excellent factfinding right there...thanks for clearing up the mystery! Meanwhile, we turn to the runt of the KSN litter...remember this disappointment? Be disappointed no more...to some extent at least. (I doubt KSNW used All News Network.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=pz4hzXdD1IQ;m=2;s=16
  17. Could that possibly be the original KUTH? The "66" branding doesn't make much sense for it, though, unless there was an SLC translator that no one noticed...
  18. That TV Asahi newscast's open was a bit behind the times...it imitates the proto-TVbD look from CNN's beginnings!
  19. Repost from the classic video thread - someone at WHOI clearly liked Balls and Walls (and mid 90s TVbD in general)... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=IsS6I_Mymhg;t=21
  20. WHOI in 1998, with In-Sink and a knockoff of a familiar syndicated look... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=IsS6I_Mymhg;t=21
  21. Link works fine for me, but I went and saved the audio just in case. First theme is in the NMSA as WDIO/WIRT 1985...and going by this sample, it's tied to the network (note the WNT signature at the start). The other two are entirely new.
  22. Something that came completely out of left field...the NMSA recently lumped WROC 1981 and 1987 into We're 4, of all things. I guess the question is - where did that come from? Quite frankly I smell something fishy, but I'll leave that call to the experts at sifting through the dirt...
  23. Another fantastic montage. I had a feeling that KSBY open would use that particular TVbD look, going by KSBW...but I didn't expect Great News! (Especially not the rather odd little variation on the primary theme in the close.)
  24. That compilation is fantastic...even if KGWN managed to butcher Pride Inside by playing it at the wrong speed!
  25. Should I be horrified that the KKTM open is...actually not quite as bad as I expected from the music? The graphics are actually pretty on par with KNAZ at the time. (which may not be saying much, but still...)
