PIX used their unique positioning (and the fact that they were part of the story) to their advantage. I think it was a good decision, albeit yes maybe the coverage was a bit too long. If you want other news and regular programming, turn to other channels. If you want in-depth coverage of this, keep it there. Many folks they interviewed complimented their extensive coverage and commitment, so I think this was (much needed) good press for WPIX after the mass layoffs.

I agree wholeheartedly that the "immersive studio" is overrated, or at least the way they're using it is. It makes me miss the simple green screen, where I'd argue it is easier to see/understand the weather.

It's nice they aren't leaving Shirley to cover the 3 hour (or longer) block alone, although of all their evening anchors before (Kori, Kendis, Arrianee), I always found her the strongest. It definitely would be practical if they added an extra anchor to their evenings for situations like this so they don't have their morning anchor work such long hours.

This is interesting; she was the last in-studio traffic anchor before she was reassigned to general assignment reporting. I wonder why they'd suddenly shift back to a traffic anchor (unless it was just to fill in for Guy).

Henry Rossoff reports on X that the Daily News Building was also ordered to evacuate, forcing WPIX off the air. He said they are re-grouping and will resume coverage when they are able to. I believe they stopped at 11am.

I'm definitely surprised to see this, I figured CBS would try to somehow ignore the story or not report on it (they even mentioned pelley's part about injecting falsehoods, so now every CBS viewer will be aware of this and somehow breathe a sigh of relief?). Good for Tony for giving (what seemed like) a genuine heartfelt tribute. I'd doubt it, but Is it possible they did this behind Bari Weiss's back? The whole situation is just so sad. What a dramatic change in talent from 1-2 years ago; not to mention all the behind the scenes cuts we aren't seeing. So now Shriely Chan will have to anchor alone 4,5,6,6:30 and 10pm.

It seems this is no longer the case. Ever since the mass firings, G hasn't been doing weather at 10pm, and I assumed he was on a long vacation. Tonight, he was there in-studio for the "G thing" segment, but immediately after they tossed to Chris Cimino who's been doing the 10pm last few weeks. Not sure what G's new hours are, but he did the 4pm yesterday (so maybe he just swapped with Chris for earlier shows).

Wow, after reading the subsequent major cuts happening at WGN and KTLA, WPIX is certainly not alone in this, but this is pretty much most of their major anchors/main faces. I think it is safe to assume these cuts were also responsible for Craig Treadway's departure. Especially sad to hear John Muller who, like Craig, is a longtime veteran.

Craig would be a great addition, I wonder how he and Rosanna would mesh. Considering FOX picked up Lori Stokes and Sukanya Krishnan, it's not improbable.

It's a shame that he didn't get the chance to say goodbye to viewers on air considering his long time there, although very few departures at PIX have happened in a graceful, mutual way (the only exception I can think of was Tamsen Fadal, who got a huge cake and everything when she left). Nearly all the others were sudden absences (Byron Miranda, Alex Lee, Oji, Betty Nguyen). It seems the morning show is particularly unstable

Found it interesting that during tonight's 11pm news, Matt Brickman is covering both weather and sports.

Scott left his chief meteorologist position in Texas for this opportunity, so lets hope WCBS doesn't screw him over. He still appears on TV promos, so I suppose he will do the 6pm/8pm once he's back?
